Is this as good as it seems? EU roaming included.

I think what we have all done on here is bought the £20/200GB phone sim not realising there was a £18/200GB Data sim.
The data one may work better in a Mifi although Offcom require a phone sim to work in both a phone and a Mifi but not a router.

I wonder if you could swap from a phone deal to data only using the same sim.

Me too I just use my phone I just don't see the benefit of routers etc but maybe I just don't understand
Me too. Just turn the hot spot on the phone and it becomes a router effectively. Never had an issues with signal.

Once you have the sim you can change bundles. Either at the end of the month or maybe like Mick and Ruth did - - contact customer service and getting changed and they may refund.

We have been in quite a few places with no phone signal but can get a signal with the Mifi.
OK - maybe I've been lucky. But to be honest a night or two without data wouldn't bother me.

Me too Lenny, I believe that the aerial on the roof with 2 x cables directly to the router hopefully gives a stronger signal than jumping on the phone but I could be wrong of course

I think you’re getting your MB’s and GB’s mixed up. It’s €0.0021 per MB. There’s 1024 MB in a GB. Times €0.0021 by 1024 that’s 2.15 cents per GB (not MB)… Times that by 131 which is 281.7 cents …divided by 100 = €2,82 (rounded up) for the extra 131GB…so I stand corrected….€22,77 (£20.15 in real money) for 150gb.

I never used the 150 GB so probably didn’t notice the odd 80 cents on my previous deal of 60GB but I will keep an eye on it from now on…as they say every little bit helps 😊

Of course I could be wrong 😊

In fact I could be wrong…don’t remember being charged anything extra when roaming…I’ll find out soon.
Could you please read what I wrote.

Also the last 2 lines of the edit are taken from the Reglo website.

My maths makes it 2 euros/GB roaming charge

HaHa…this is worse than RWG…didn’t see the edit…are you sure that’s not worldwide…there’s a little picture of a globe

RWG also told me that the Global SIM will swap to the best signal available as you travel through different parts of Europe and presumably beyond the EU.
Every time I think I’m down to my last question, having understood everything else, the reply from RWG begs another question🤨 That could be the technical nature of the subject or just the English language being open to interpretation.
This is normal for a UK sim. This is why, generally, reception is better in EU, with a roaming sim, than getting a local sim in whatever country you are in, as that will be tied to a specific provider. This is what makes RWG a little odd. If you are tied to EE (or Vodahone) when you are roaming. Strange and confusing.

Lenny HB Is your 200B deal only using EE or is it using other EU networks as you move around?

I wonder if you could swap from a phone deal to data only using the same sim.

Well I’ve asked them to cancel the Vodafone Data SIM after receiving this reply in response to my quoting their misleading (IMO) ‘EU Roaming’ FAQ to them:

“Hi Orion,
that is correct and applies to all voice bundles from £5 and above.

In the case of data-only SIMs, you need to have a Global SIM for the roaming to work.”

So not made at all clear in the first place, although I’ve asked if the plan can be changed to ‘Global’ with the existing SIM as I’m willing to give it a go for £28 per month - intending to downgrade it when back in the U.K. after the summer.

Oh dear, I have ordered this morning an EE data sim for the UK and Ireland. Reading the comments here looks like it won’t roam in the EU as I assumed. I have to say the website is confusing. However the phone sim will roam in the EU (as proved by various people here) so why would I buy a global data sim for an extra £10 when I could pay an extra £2 and get an EE phone sim and put it in the MiFi ? I am confused and a bit frustrated. I have emailed RWG and see what they have to say. I have also ordered a Popit 100gb sim. (We use a lot of data, was with Tiekom before, 300gb/month)

In France it logged onto Orange which is EE's roaming partner there but reception dropped off in southern France and I couldn't change the network.
In Spain it was still on Orange but wouldn't browse.
As I said I couldn't change the network in the Mifi but I was able to when I put it in my phone. So I set it to Movistar and it's been working OK since, not brilliant speed but usable and a least it's a UK sim which makes life eaiser.

Maybe the dedicated ‘World’ data SIM will prove to be less prone to dropping out and having trouble connecting to networks as Lenny HB has experienced? Might also be faster and not subject to throttling as a number of phone SIMs have been reported to be? I’ll give it a go and if it doesn’t work out cancel it.

Yes strange you need the extra global, this is the reply when I asked about changing , so I will leave as phone sim because it’s working for me

for data-only SIM that would also work in the roaming, you'll have to acquire our Global SIM.
It's a unique technology, capable of fully erasing borders and giving you a real feeling of the "roam like home" motto.

So, you can cancel the £20 plan (when expiring) and purchase our 200GB Global SIM (choose Global SIM, instead of VF/EE).
https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/data-only/200gb-data-only-£18-month/

From the device perspective, there is no difference for us, as long as that device has settings capable to change APN to the exact one you'll need for the Global SIM.

That's more definitive and informative, than the reply I got when I enquired about the difference between the two sims. :(

Thanks Manic. (y)

Jock. :)

Email this morning from RWG requesting me to order the ‘Global’ data SIM from their webshop and they will refund the original ‘Vodafone’ purchase.

Global being where? Eu as well as outside EU. And that’s £28pm month is it ?

From RWG in reply to an email I sent…

Hi Martin,

The data SIM isn't capped so you can use all of the data whilst abroad, the Global SIM doesn’t cover Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Venezuela, or Yemen.

Still confused! I have ordered a dat sim which I presumed would work in the eu the same as the phone sim. Do you definitely need a global data sim to work in the eu? I emailed RWG last night but no reply yet, phoned today but no operators available and please email. I’ll be driving passed their offices on the way to the Fishguard ferry, might be popping in 🤣

I don’t have the data sim, I have the normal one. Stuck it straight into a router, after a few hiccups, working fine. 👍

Exactly - as i said on an earlier post, the RWG staff don’t appear to be able to explain properly - it’s difficult not to have the opinion that the £18/200GB is ok for the UK and EU but they want you to spend more money as they are probably on a bonus for sales, call me cynical if you like but with the lack of a proper explanation it’s all hearsay from them

Emailed rwg for more info on their sims…..reply below…..

“Voice SIM vs. Data SIM. It's about functionalities. Voice SIM provides voice/text/data, however, those are standard and need to make at least 1x call/text within the 90-day period, otherwise will go into the "Restricted" state and we need to be informed to reactivate it.
On the other hand, data SIM is built to be primarily used in MiFi devices, mobile routers, cars, IoT devices, and so on. Those can only do data and are built to provide a service you won't even find globally, let alone in the UK. We are capable, through the unique platform, to provide you prioritization on the network (you above all other non-prioritized users) as well as privacy and security. These will not stop if not used for months. They are designed to provide you with data.
Our SIMs come in 3 sizes within a single package, so you can choose based on the device you'll be using: Mini, Micro, and Nano.
The big difference is between data SIMs. VF/EE SIMs are standard data SIMs, provided by these two operators and can only work in the UK. To go to the EU and anywhere else in the world (incl. UK), you'll need to use our Global SIM. It is our own, built to overcome any roaming obstacle, without any usage limitations (depending on the size of your allowance), and gives real meaning to the phrase "roam like home". I would always recommend using this one.

Now, you can have multiple SIMs and bundles with us. You don't have to get a new one or change an existing account just to add data SIM.”

From RWG in reply to an email I sent…
We are still having no luck in Germany and Netherlands with our RWG sim, calls and text are fine just no data connection. RWG have been helpful in that they have sent different APN settings to try but nothing works well . Disappointed ☹️. UK was fine no issues good speeds👍

Will be sending it back on our return to uk tomorrow. Will order a global SIM to try as off to Canada later this month.

100gb is ok but a bit tight for us 200gb is plenty with spare for a month so RWG ticks the box but it does have to work☹️.

Will be interesting to see if the Global Sim works ….haven’t seen anyone testing that ….

Further email from RWG this morning notifying me of the full refund for the £18 Vodafone Data SIM, so they appear to be on the ball with their admin.

Now waiting the arrival of the 200gb Global SIM and hoping that their promise of:

holds true.

I’m just about to order one but not hedn off for another four weeks 🤞

Going to keep the voice one I have as well and will try to compare the two for data use, side by side so to speak

I’ve the done the same as Orion, cancelled ee data sim and ordered global one. Just sweating on it arriving in time to go to Ireland. However, the ee one has just turned up in 2 days so there’s hope.
