Is this as good as it seems? EU roaming included.

Further email from RWG this morning notifying me of the full refund for the £18 Vodafone Data SIM, so they appear to be on the ball with their admin.

Now waiting the arrival of the 200gb Global SIM and hoping that their promise of:

“On the other hand, data SIM is built to be primarily used in MiFi devices, mobile routers, cars, IoT devices, and so on. Those can only do data and are built to provide a service you won't even find globally, let alone in the UK. We are capable, through the unique platform, to provide you prioritization on the network (you above all other non-prioritized users) as well as privacy and security. These will not stop if not used for months. They are designed to provide you with data.” “To go to the EU and anywhere else in the world (incl. UK), you'll need to use our Global SIM. It is our own, built to overcome any roaming obstacle, without any usage limitations (depending on the size of your allowance), and gives real meaning to the phrase "roam like home".”

holds true.
If it works well it would be better than Popit which is £25 for 100gb, look forward to your feedback.

And the Popit sim was a phone sim, (texts and calls), rather than a data specific sim.
I wonder if that's why I had to occasionally turn off the MiFi, and back on, to get the sim operating again. It didn't happen too often I am pleased to say.

With the Global Data Sim, RWG looks like the way to go..........for now at least. :)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Canceled my £20 Sim and have had an email saying a refund is coming - will probably order the Global Sim now

A quick update from us …. Our issues were clearly linked to the locked (to vodafone) mifi device.
I bought a TPLink mifi unit, put the RWG sim in and everything is working fine here in Portugal.
Two on Tour - No vpn needed to use iplayer, itv x etc 👍

The Boofles is that the global data only sim your using or their general calls, SMS and data phone sim?

Getting better results part of the problem is down to not being in brilliant signal areas.

Playing with my phone last night several of the networks that were saying a available but phone would not register on Vodaphone & Orange. I don't know if it's down to poor signal or EE restricting it, phone is on Plusnet that uses EE.

Tried YOIGO not one I've bothered trying before it registered and it's much faster with no dropouts.

Then tried the Mifi with the RWG sim and it let me change network put that on YOIGO, result faster browsing streaming without buffering.
Not that fast only getting 6 to 12mb/s but I think that is the area we are in but it's fast enough for streaming, and far more reliable than it was on Movistar.

I have a Popit sim as well with me. That is performing far worse than the RWG.

The RWG is on an external aerial though which helps. I suspect popit may be throttling the bandwidth.

It’s the general sim with calls/minutes. Still working well in the new mifi unit for data.
I seem to remember reading in the Ts&Cs about making one call or text - so I’ll have to remember to do that 🧐

The ‘Global’ 200gb data only SIM arrived yesterday and I now have it running in the number 1 slot of the Teltonika RUTX12.

Unlike the Lebara SIM in the number 2 slot, (and the iDMobile that it replaced), I have had to manually enter the APN of ion.otm rather than leave the setting on automatic as before. Its now registered with the Vodafone network locally and the speeds are comparable with the previously ordered Vodafone data only SIM that RWG are refunding. I’ll update the thread when we start heading down through France and Italy week after next.

Have also ordered the Global sim after the Tiecom one was withdrawn, be interested to see how you get on in Europe,

Just spotted something that may be of interest. I previously stated that the new Global SIM had registered itself with the Vodafone network but that’s not quite correct. As you can see from the screenshot from the router below it is in fact showing as ‘roaming’ here in the U.K. - unlike the iD SIM I’ve just put into the second slot, and is ‘Registered’ on their network.

Seems like it would need a vpn going by that then.

Yes, I believe so. I’ve already installed NordVPN on the router and our phones, tablet and laptop are set to treat it as a ‘trusted network’ so they don’t fire up their own VPNs when connected to it.

Yes watching with interest, I have the Tiekom and it is still great in Spain but will terminate it when we get home, I am thinking of getting the RWG Mobile data sim for the UK and then changing it for a Global sim before coming back over here next year

Well after a mad rush to the post office sorting office yesterday morning at 8 am to see if it was due for delivery later on the postie dug the data SIM only card out for me. Arrived at Folkestone after painful 6 hour drive and stuck sim into Maxview router changed the APN settings as instructed in documentation with sim and fired it up. We are blocked by the cliffs so reception normally is pretty poor with at best 1 bar on the phone. Getting 6.25 mps on Wi-Fi O2 so plenty to watch football last night without buffering. Onto Belgium today and Luxembourg tomorrow so will see and let you know.

I’m picking a global data sim when we get to our son in Cornwall tomorrow. Bit confused on the apn settings, do you put RWGmobile.com or ion.otm as the apn in a Huawei MiFi unit? Easier asking here than to RWG as they are very slow to respond. Thanks

I put them both in as have Maxview and it doesn’t identify that system in instructions but connected once I put ion.otm in

I’ve got the phone sim and getting 62mbps near Nevers France
Only been getting 6-12 mbs in Spain but phone signal have very poor as well so probably just where we have been.

I checked my Smarty in the phone and that’s getting 161mbps on now I’ve changed it to Free.

I’ve probably missed something in the thread but originally I believe there was a link to a £20 reduced from £22 - 200gb dat. Calls and txt sim. This is the one many purchased. This had eu roaming with no specific networks to choose
The £18 one is data only with a choice of ee or vodaphone network or global for use aboard
The £20 one seems to be working for most people most of the time so long as it’s activated and used a little in UK
Or did I miss something 😀

I have the £20 200Gb sim (not data only) I popped it straight into my Huawei Mifi (after doing a factory reset) sent RWG an email asking for activation and approx 10 mins later it was up and running. Simples
