Is almost everyone on here loaded?

We are getting very side tracked now, my op was about paying £35 to park in a field, where you shop is up to you and you get something for it at the end of the day you get nothing out of a bit of grass.
chaser when has a thread not got side tracked
I think it's an age thing?
I was out in Edinburgh yesterday and a round of drinks was more that I used to get payed for a week when I first started working

This was not a issue as I have a lot more coming in now as a pension but just occasionally it still twitches a nerve.

Edinburgh was fine when you get away from the centre which is full of festival fans at present. Not my thing but good to see the town alive again.(y)

I've got full air, ground clearance on the DL is diabolical.
Sorry to harp on, Lenny but have you bottomed out. Just so I don't do same. Not had a problem so far even on a steep ferry ramp.

Quackers i have just looked at your website…… now that IS what a website should be like! You provide all the info needed to make an informed decision, including the availability and price (not many CL’s do that).

My MIL lives in Yate so next time we come that way I’m going to see if we can stay at your site.
Thanks for your kind words. Always a big welcome for a Funster.

How can you say that. My bit of grass gives me room to get the table and chairs out,, sun canopy for shade and overnight I have a sound sleep knowing (or assuming) I will not be harassed during the night by others. I have access to water,, waste disposal whilst there.
When on an Aires I can sometimes pass a beer through my window to next door,, hear their bed groaning late evening, we are that close, cannot use table and chair normally and take pot luck as to availability. Much the same with stopping on a car park,, lay by or even in a pub carpark,, (I have done all of those also).

Surely if is good quality you at least get some relaxation...

Not "well off" but comfortable, if we need something, we have no qualms in getting it. No Mortgage, all our debts are "honest debts" (rates, power, water, etc)

BUT! even though we live in Cornwall, the Devil will ski to work before we stay on a Cornish site!. £50 for a night? £5 per day for a dog? Aw c'mon! pay those prices? you need your head read!

not read all the posts but what do you term as being

“Is almost everyone on here loaded?”

what figure do you out on being loaded

In answer to the original question, NO, not loaded, comfortable yes, would I pay upwards of £100 for a pitch? never, what’s the point, you have probably spent upwards of £60,000 to £250,000 for a nice living space, why pay so much for for a bit of tarmac or grass with a few services.
Currently at a Marina with great views, a clubhouse and services for £15 per night.

No figure on it, but people who think up to £100 is good value.

£50 for a Premier Inn or £250 for a Sheraton?
It is a bed, you are sleeping in it then gone tomorrow.
If you want unrestricted EHU, heated shower/toilet blocks, sites with lighting and on site staff
No, nor clubhouses, music, swimming pools, etc,
Wouldn't you get more than that from DEFRA for leaving it fallow?

(Not being argumentative/accusative but merely interested as I've been under the impression that some landowners get paid quite well for doing nothing with their land).
Or even more growing rapeseed, no one wanted , & ploughing it in.

Everyone to their choice but overnighting on a sports club field doesn't appeal to me one bit.
Horses for courses okay but having just spent 5 nights on a sports and social club field at the 3 fffs rally I must say I enjoyed it immensely. Much more than staying on normal sites.
We stay on a completely mixed bag of sites, aires, stopovers and CLs but paying top prices doesn’t guarantee us a good time.
It’s all about the location, camaraderie, and fun factor for us.
Phil

Looking at this from the other side,I suppose most people live in large towns and are used to paying exorbitant parking fees and other costs and don't see a lot of grass whereas here grass is just about all we see and we can park more or less where we like for free even in uttoxeter so the fact of having to pay this sort of money to be somewhere that's no different than being at home comes as a severe shock.
I think you've hit a nail on the head there, with that analysis.

Add to that, city folk who are in full-time employment, with only limited opportunities to get away in their van, may well be up for something special (and possibly even quality assured) for their precious time out.

I have a field beside a river next to a country road, I had five vans on it a couple of weeks ago, charged them nothing, but people I know no water or emptying and obviously no electric, but it's rough and wet when it rains, I just don't want the hassle of someone coming back on me for damages.
How about if I offered you £50 to stay overnight in this delightful and tranquil spot by the side of a lovely river, where I could be certain of exclusivity and privacy? How would that sound - would it be worth it from your perspective? And if not, how much would it cost?

You appreciate, I'm largely just playing devil's advocate here - I'm not actually requesting to come and stay, just exploring if any sum would be sufficient to catch your interest?

Disclaimer you pay for the privled of parking on my land at your own risk no responsibly will be taken by land owner for any damages or loss what so ever.

I see your point about camaraderie although I don't generally seek or engage in camaraderie with total strangers and since I don't know any Fun subscribers that's probably why m/h rallies don't appeal to me. Motorhoming as such isn't a hobby of mine; it's purely transport and accommodation for non-motorhome related events. I could try rallies I suppose but I don't tour in the U.K. and when here I'm busy with other hobbies and interests.
The only times I've overnighted in a field or on a rugby club ground in the U.K. is twice a year at a couple of vintage motorbike weekend rallies run by my one-make club where I have known most of the participants for many years and here I agree with you that the banter and camaraderie are part of the attraction (apart from finding out which of my Hell's Anginas chums has made it through another year).

Good point. Being retired and liking my Downland village with friends and family I never feel the need to 'get away' from anything. I go away to visit interesting places and areas that I've read or heard about.

We and many others we rally with don't talk about jobs, money and a lot of times do not know surnames. We just meet at weekends with whatever we have have and have fun.

Mrs B and I have got a Hymer 778 PL. It has taken 30 years of owning caravans and motorhomes to get there. We ain't rolling in it, but we ain't broke.

Just lately we have had numerous posts saying £30 upwards to £100 pounds a night is good value to just park a van up for a night, does anyone stop and think state pension is around £20 a day for everything, now I am not pleading poverty but does that sound like good value, it doesn't to me.
Have people today just got too much money , iv worked months for less than £20 , in a different time I know but it just makes me stop and think before shelling out these amounts, in fact I couldn't do it.
Has money just lost all value now?
If you have a motorhome you are 'loaded' compared to most folk.

What do you mean by "loaded" fat, rich or carrying too much stuff ?

I'm quoting the OP who mentioned 'loaded' he could have meant all of what you suggest but I think money might be the answer.

Not exactly. I'm an impoverished student and very part time bar man. I was using the van to live in, until Hollie decided she wanted to get a house up here.

Rent isn't cheap, and as for actually paying for electric when I could get it for free from the sun in the van?!?! What's that about!!! 😱 :roflmto: :giggler:

She does make me happy though.

Spent all the money I saved to fund the masters degree / van living on bills. The van is also off the road, with no money to fix it.

But the end is in sight. It's all over at the end of the month and I have interviews lined up for "proper jobs" in September.

Before hand I was a a general manager and deputy manager in pubs. Comfortable, but not well off! And certainly not happy, working 50+ hour weeks, every weekend and evening. I needed to get out. And so... masters degree.

I have never paid to park my van anywhere, and I don't plan on it, not matter how much money I have! I'd rather be out of the way, somewhere quiet than parked in a row with dozens of others! I'm a FL for life!

When I lived in the van I shared my park up twice! It's not crowded out there, and good spots can be had for free (or paid for on the spiritual level with a couple of minutes with a litter picker, as in the picture below).

OK MY pension is bllody taxed because I saved for my old age the money was taxed before I saved and is now taxed again

I do not agree in paying a site more than a hotel
We spend 76 nights in France and Spain and spent a certain amount of money
We spent 21 nights in Devon and Cornwall and almost spent as much despite using ASCI for sites

SO we would rather drive through France to get to Spain as it's cheaper than Brittany Ferries (Without discount) as it's all part of the holiday and we tend to find aires that cost nothing or very little in Fact we've booked a 5* site for Christmas in Spain 17€00 a night
