Is almost everyone on here loaded?

Boring it ain't!
It was not serious, I really must learn to use emojis my Uncle John would be turning in his grave and my cousin Bev would never speak to me again! It was just a dig as until then the thread had been quite lighthearted and that was the first post that seemed to criticise others choices. It was wrong of me I admit but by time I’d got to Waitrose I thought it would be too late to edit it.

I apologise. I have now given everyone the chance to laugh at my middle class choice of supermarket, but in my defence one of my babies plus girlfriend is arriving tomorrow for 2 nights so I have to buy his treats. He’s only 30.

We are not posh enough to have a Waitrose in the Fens! :giggle:

Charlie's going to say you are loaded I agree, I ocassionaly go into Waitrose and have to come out after looking at the prices. :giggle:
Me too,. I just go in for a laugh.
This is very similar to my op, in uttoxeter we have a Lidl, Tesco, Waitrose, and soon an Aldi all on the same bit of ground, you can go into Lidl then walk across the road into Waitrose and some stuff is double the price but there is always people buying, why why why?
I thought times are hard but there's still folks willing to throw money away.

chaser you seem obsessed with this thing called money.
Maybe you should be seeing your tailor and ask him to take those pockets out of your shroud (lets hope it is not needed in the near future) so you will not feel too guilty leaving next to nowt when you go which will be the same as me.
My offspring will have the house and hopefully nowt else kuz I will have spent what little I have.  :drink:

Come and live in Spain...we are comfortable in fact very comfortable...we worked in the UK and retired to the Costas....different qualities of life here, BUT...No Bloody Waitrose...I suppose Mecadona is on a par with Waitrose....except they don't polish the apples..We know our place in life...

I do agree that the quality of some things in Lidl and Waitrose really isn’t much different but for some things it’s worth it. The meat eaters love their brine soaked chicken. That went in the trolley. We also drink gallons of Nescafé Azera when away in the van and it was on offer at £3.50 a tin so I bought 6 of the Intenso and 6 of the decaf. Their Levantine table range is delicious, they also do an English Cheesecake company Vegan lotus Biscoff desert that is incredible so suits the lactose intolerant son and everyone else perfectly.

Yes we can afford it but that is how we choose to spend our money. Nick drinks, I don’t. Neither of us smokes. We all make choices, none are right or wrong they’re just our own. Some of us are luckier in that we have more than others. I grew up in a council house so it never ceases to amaze me how lucky I am financially.

There are certain things that I can only get by going to Waitrose.
I adore the pickled herrings which they sell loose and I eat them almost every day like sweets . :h:
I got a passion for them 30 years ago when I commuted for 18 months from Cologne to Eindhoven and had a pot of herrings and a coffee for breakfast every day at 7.45 a.m. at the stall outside Eindhoven train station.

Reminds me of a conversation with one of my operators many years ago when I was a shift supervisor. He was complaining of not having enough money to take driving lessons.
I told him that was his fault. We had a chat 😳😳

Anyway long story short
I sat down with him and showed him that the money he spent going to see Sunderland football club ( well that’s a fairy story in itself. Sunderland playing football 😂😂😂 ) and going out with his mates I.e. pissing against the wall, was more than it cost me in total for my 2 cars, motorbike and caravan (sorry for swearing)

His choices but all in his control.

He had believed I was loaded at the time. Earning a massive £1500 a year more than him. But commuting 60 miles a day.

It’s all down to perception and not being aware of the whole picture of what people choose to do in life and what sacrifices they may be making in other areas to give them what we see.

Easy to judge without the full picture.

Terrifying is the word that springs to mind. The good thing about the motorhome is that I don't have to scrub and antifoul it.

We are getting very side tracked now, my op was about paying £35 to park in a field, where you shop is up to you and you get something for it at the end of the day you get nothing out of a bit of grass.

It wasn't for cheap holidays but the creaky joints that necessitated something more comfortable so on a whim eleven years ago I bought a 1995 motorhome for £13,000 and have carried on adventuring around Europe. It has been utterly reliable, has been MOT'd every year without even an Advisory, does everything I need and apart from servicing and a couple of DIY jobs on hab stuff it has cost me nothing, is still virtually unmarked and is probably still worth what I paid for it. I have no need to change it.

Exactly the same for me. Living just a 17 mile drive from France (Newhaven port) I only tour abroad where m/h's are welcomed rather than in the U.K. where m/h's are merely tolerated.
Is that A G3Ls nice bike.?

…manage the bookings/stays, keep it clear etc, the days of just opening the gate and letting people stay is long gone.

Not so sure that’s right unless the site owner wants it to be so. I quite often stop off at a CL above Chesterfield that is just a small field with drinking water and elsan point for £5 a night. Never booked always just turn up and wander down to the house to pay. Most I have ever seen on in any one time was 4 units and me and Basildog were two of them.

I think you should open up for those who only want a place for a motorhome. Could you provide drinking water at a fiver a night. I am renowned as a FLT but would stop over when passing at that 👍

Wealth is subjective.
I consider myself wealthy as we can do pretty much as we want without thinking too hard if we can afford it. We've had 4 weeks in canada flew Business class, week in Poland and odd weeks away in Hymer. have enough money in savings to buy an average type house.

But, I've was stopped a few days ago in my van by a very scruffy looking chap, who wanted to chat to my passenger (local dogooder very lovely chap who would do anything for anyone). This scruffy chap asked about the foodbank, said it was closed and he hadn't eaten for a couple of days. My friend said to call at the church tomorrow where he'll get a meal.

I looked at him, and I always have £30 in my sun visor, gave him the money, the look on his face was like he'd won the lottery. As we drove away I asked my friend If I'd done the right thing (as in being mugged) and he said no, the man is a local vagrant and often gets a meal in the church.

Yesterday, I was at Carbisdale Castle (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/...tle-goes-sale-1-5million-comes-SIX-lochs.html)
The lady who has just bought the place lives in Mayfair London. She will no doubt spend a million or so doing the castle up. Even then, that's less than a small house in Mayfair will cost.

This castle is next door to the Duke of Sutherlands land, who a few years back sold 2 paintings for £95 Million, as he needed some pocket money.

As I say, wealth is subjective.

HRH has just submitted our self assessment's to HMRC. She has done them for years (she's an accountant).
Anyway, she has calculated NO TAX to pay this year, so if we were loaded we would be paying some tax eh. (or she's very good ;) ;) )
And NO i would NOT pay £20/25/30 to park in a field.

Is that A G3Ls nice bike.?
Yep, 1954 G3LS. It was shipped new to the Rhodesian Police force.
I've had it 38 years and covered over 150,000 miles on it, mostly around Europe. For 11 years it was my all-year daily commute. Never failed to get me home from anywhere.

Some of us like that bit of grass on a campsite , that sense of security, use of facilities, nice views, somewhere to put table and chairs out, neighbors to chat to. We all know that you don’t want that sort of thing and have spent years traveling around France for free or virtually free but some of us like Campsites.

You did a thread a while back asking about trying campsites in France and I said I thought you’d regret changing your winning formula. You’d found what suits you and your wife. Admittedly I wouldn’t want to spend £35 a night now but if I had children and had to go in the school holidays I’m sure I’d think that was a bargain.

I’ve tried to get it back on track but threads do tend to wander, part of the fun.

We're not loaded but after paying for private pensions while at work, combined with gov. pension,we don't have to panic over household bills, and instead of paying £1,500 for a foreign holiday we CAN afford to pay for English sites. As we are in our 80's now,as long as we are happy where we are we don't care about the price!🤩🤩🤩
