Is almost everyone on here loaded?

I have thirty acres that I rent out to a bloke with sheep at £50 an acre for a YEAR and I am happy at that,
Wouldn't you get more than that from DEFRA for leaving it fallow?

(Not being argumentative/accusative but merely interested as I've been under the impression that some landowners get paid quite well for doing nothing with their land).

Probably, I am not after money, I just enjoy walking around my fields in a morning looking at the sheep and wildlife, someone said why don't I sell up and spend it all, but nothing else I could spend it on would give me anything like the pleasure it gives me.

That's priceless contentment (y) A man after my own heart.

and where would you put all those old tractors? ;)

Loaded? absolutely (y) Oh hang on we bought the new (ish) van:unsure: so no we are not loaded but we can still live comfortably, we can/could afford expensive sites if we wanted and sometimes if they are in the right place we might dig deep for a few nights but our favourites are a field, a rally, THS, stellplatz or aire, we dont wild camp or use pub stops particularly we would buy a meal at a pub stop of course but we prefer our own cooking, my biggest problem with most sites is the obligatory use of electricity OK we don't have to use it but they are going to charge for it anyway.

So chaser if you are in a nice spot get it sorted and we will come(y) "#loads a money"
I have a field beside a river next to a country road, I had five vans on it a couple of weeks ago, charged them nothing, but people I know no water or emptying and obviously no electric, but it's rough and wet when it rains, I just don't want the hassle of someone coming back on me for damages.

If it wasn't for getting involved with councils and h&s and other rubbish I would be glad to let folks park in my fields for a fiver, money for nowt.
That's the problem though
If you don't get involved someone who was more than happy to pay your £5 will then try to sue you for £££ because they tripped over a mole hill.

We were in a Travelodge for my Dad's funeral - over £300 for two nights as they were almost fully booked due to filming in the area. The nearby Premier Inn doesn't have a lift and had no available ground floor rooms.

We avoid school holidays (unless we have the Grandchildren with us) and both like a mix of CL / CS and club sites. If the site os near where we want to explore we don't take too much notice of the price if it is less than £30 ish.

Having said that the CL we like near my Mum's has risen from £10 a night, 6 years ago, to £22 a night this year. That is for a serviced pitch (electric use metered in the winter) but no showers etc. It's a lot of money for what it is but the location is ideal for us.

There will not be many of us on this site living on the bread line.
Also not many with money to burn.
In-between people make the choice what they are prepared to pay based on what they like to be doing.
Over the years I have came across a number of older people that claimed they were skint that transpired when they popped their clogs were sitting on fortunes or at least more money than they could have spent.

(electric use metered in the winter)
I think metered electric will become the norm.
Personally I am happy with this.
A lot of sites I have used abroad this is normal
I would rather pay for any electric I choose to use that subsidise someone that thinks it is ok to heat their awning all night.

Part of us being away is being able to sit out with table and chairs, we mostly cook outside and enjoy watching the world go by and reading a book. We like to base ourselves somewhere and explore the local area either walking or using public transport, so a site suits us.

We usually spend around 8 weeks a year travelling in Europe we’ve visited most of the coastline except for the very south of Italy, and again use mostly sites using ACSI where the maximum price is around 12 to 22 euro for a nice site, usually with swimming pool. We don’t like being crammed into Aires not being able to set up outside.

Each to their own, it’s just what suits us.

This year we go out Portsmouth to Cherbourg 31st August and return Santander to Plymouth 31st October £785 including club cabins

60 night @ 20euro = £1000
Probably 2500 miles = £650 in fuel

So rough total cost £2500

Food etc same as if we were at home

People have given costs for their MH holidays.

Here is ours for 18 days in SE Poland

Diesel £160
M/Way £20
Parking £0
6/7 meals out average £15 =£100 (Wine not popular in SE so we were allowed to BYO, with no corkage)
Few beers at £1.90/0.5lt say £15
Meals and booze in MH same as home, as we took our own, because we knew it was difficult to buy wine in SE Poland, beer is preferred.

Total £295 = £8.20 pp per day. Would have been less per day if we could have stayed longer as main cost was getting there and back.

Total rip off!

Will we go again - you bet.

I tend to look at the daily spend rather than just the cost of the pitch, the chances are we spend approximately the same each day as someone whose parked in a car park. This thread could just as easily be about how much we spend for dinner.

I gather from reading this thread that some people pay just to park their self-contained MHs.

Well, each unto their own.
We have a top of the range PVC, we could afford a bigger van but Nick wouldn’t be happy driving one whereas I would. We spend weeks away in it quite happily but the only thing that gets on our nerves after a while is the feeble trigger shower in a PVC so yes, technically we are self contained but we do like staying on sites and using a half decent shower sometimes. Everything else about the van is great.

Some of us like campsites as well, find them fun, enjoy the atmosphere. Some strange people enjoy boats I’ve heard, how boring is that?

Never given a thought to how much state pension I get and I've been drawing mine for 10 years.
Maybe I'm naïve but I'd be surprised if many folk with motorhomes have only the state pension as their income.
I only have state pension, there are lots of us out there cheated out of a private pension.

£12.50 a night here at Woodside Field, and only 2 in this evening. Sometimes I wonder if we charged £20- £30 would we always be ?
Quackers i have just looked at your website…… now that IS what a website should be like! You provide all the info needed to make an informed decision, including the availability and price (not many CL’s do that).

My MIL lives in Yate so next time we come that way I’m going to see if we can stay at your site.

We're the same but still on the same van after 8 years we can't see anything worth spending that much upgrading on particularly as we don't do that many nights in it now we're in a better area to live in
Had the current van 5 years the only reason we want to change is I want a van with more ground clearance and we have had a traction control problem a couple of times that scares the live out of us & Fiat say nothing wrong.

Me too. I lost one of my pension pots which had 9 years of contributions plus 80 grand from the sale of my late Mum's house when Equitable Life went bust. I bet those responsible for the mismanagement didn't lose anything.

Nowhere near rich but “comfortable “, at least at present.

Many years of working up to 14 hour days, on some occasions in early married life, holding down three jobs at the same time.

I still baulk at paying £30+ per night for a site, that’s why we travel mainly in Europe with our motorhome. Before anyone mentions the cost of crossing the Channel, we use Tesco vouchers from our nearest supermarket.

Liar, liar, pants on fire!!! 😄. You just can't stop drooling over Carthagos which for someone of your age isn't a pretty picture. 😆

Wind over tide negotiating the Swinge Channel, north of Alderney.
Or. breaking the reefing line on the huge IOR genoa in a force 6.
Boring it ain't!

John Barrett only a sailor would know what you mean 🙂 but hey, since we’re talking scary non boring boaty stuff….. I’ll raise your force 6 with a F11 in the Irish Sea 😱😱😱 yeah… not so boring 🤣

Why/when do you need more ground clearance? Would full air suspension not give you the boost you might need on occasions? (Cheaper than a new Carthago)

John Barrett actually, we prefer the relative safety of vans these days…… and I’m ashamed to admit…. we do actually find boring boating too boring! and non boring boating too scary and too much like hard work! 😱
Agreed! That's why we went for a 13m Dutch steel cruiser. You can see that Jan could get drunk in much more space! After nearly ten years we sold it for a Hymer B640, but after three seasons in Europe and 16,000 miles we tired of that too!

My current "park up" cost me over €8000...

...but for that I get more than one night and lots of different fruits.

I seem to have a couple of euros left over from each monthly pension payout which, in my mind, makes me very wealthy.

A rich man is not the one who has the most but the one who needs the least...

JJ

No, a rich man is one usually one that doesn’t work, has enough money but pretends it’s not important.
