Went to top up my IQ Go sim today with 100 gb of data for £20.00 to discover as of 20th September (yesterday) they have changed the conditions to a fair useage policy. 100gb in uk and only 25gb in Europe. Up until today I had had no notification of this. Am I doing something wrong or have any of you come across this. I find this a little frustrating as they were keen enough to take my annual subscription a few weeks ago.
Looks like I shall be buying a local data sim.

Just looked at Tesco and they have a deal of £14 for 100Gb (SIMonly) with no EU roaming fees till 2026. But doesn't say when in 2026 and it's a 24 month contract. So at worst that could mean just over 15 months of no EU roaming fees. If it were a 12 month contract I'd take it.
Not sure if they ever invoke them but check that their (as usual, well hidden) fair usage restrictions won't be an issue for your planned usage.

eg. Officially their phone SIMs can't be used in Mifi & must be used in UK before travel (and regularly/primarily thereafter).

I like eSIMs , but would like to use one in my MiFi, as then I wouldn’t need to leave my phone all the time. Is there a MiFi that accepts eSIMs does anyone know?

Apparently the Teltonika RUTX series routers can be configured for eSiM use. I’ve not tried it myself - as yet! - but it looks to be possible according to Teltonika themselves:

My Pepwave router works well with eSIMs - they call it a “BYO eSIM” when you install an eSIM you have purchased yourself.

I use eSIMs from Airhub and Connectpls very successfully.

Try with a cheap eSIM first as I have found some eSIM suppliers do not work- although Pepwave are making improvements all the time so maybe this problem has already gone away.

They have a lot of products so I suggest you have a look at the MAX BR and Transit Duo ranges.

When choosing be carful as some of these products have only got CAT4 modems, which limits the speed to less than 150Mbit/sec. They have others in the range that have CAT6 and CAT 12 modems that will give up to 300Mbit/sec which I find works very well all over the place (it’s comes up as LTE-A).

I have not found much 5G in the places I go but LTE-A has been great.

Also if you have plans for adding Starlink make sure the model you chose one that has enough bandwidth for this.

They have more info about eSIM support at: https://www.peplink.com/technology/esim/

And a handy product comparison tool at:

I would say their products are most suitable for a fairly technical audience.

Is Reglo Mobile @ e.leclerc ?

Looks like a great option for a MiFi (in France) with 200Gb for <€10
Do they need proof of residence, or just an address (can use a friend's)?
I bought one yesterday , I used my driving license and an address of a nearby Aire.
It’s a 200 gb 5g for 9.80€ or without automatic top up its 100gb 5g but lower speed + 5€ for the sim
The shop set this one up for me, (earlier in the year bought another , shop registered it but I set the payment part) The shop was supposed to have setup payment so I get 200gb but that’s not happening yet but he did mention 24hr.
I’m using it in my ZTE MU5001 mifi

Does anyone use ID Mobile, they seem to have an offer with a limit of 30gb roaming for £12 per month
Husband has ID sim in his mobile. We have always found them very good and roaming signal often better than mine but he does have a 5g phone. His data rolls over so he never uses it all. Best of all, he can take his phone in to Currys and speak to a young person who will sort out problems and not ask all the forgotten passwords before helping.

Just a thought for the cost conscience. Go onto ‘hukd’ website and in the search bar look up ‘Lebara’. You will see a drop down list showing results. The top link takes you to the hottest deal and you chose the deal you want. For £1.99 a month you get 35Gb (you pay this for 7 months and then it changes to £8.90) you can cancel at anytime. You need to use the full 35Gb in the UK (month before) you go abroad or you may incur extra charges for data used when away (use more at home than away) You can get upto 30Gb allowance (not 100% on what allowance you get on each sim)
Want more data just buy 2 sims etc 🤷‍♂️

Getting better month by month.
I emailed IQ this morning asking for a refund of £20 for my sim, they refunded me in 10 minutes.
That’s good service. I WhatsApp massaged them and asked if I bought another 100Gb bundle before the 30/09 would they honour the whole 100 and they immediately came back with a yes.
Can’t complain about customer service. I’ve had my sim for a while now so very little refund. I’ll hang on and wait to see what they come back with.

Have never tried the Currys visit approach but my wife and I have both had awful experiences with ID customer services. I couldn’t wait to get rid of them when my contract expired. Maybe we were both unlucky?

New update on email from Frazer at IQ mobile:

IQ Go Upcoming changes to IQ Go Terms and Conditions

Dear {First Name},

Thanks for being an IQ Go customer, we hope you have enjoyed uninterrupted internet whilst roaming through Europe this summer. Our network partner asked us to introduce some upcoming changes to our service that will affect how you use it. We are providing you with notice of this change.

The Update

Effective 1st October 2024. All IQ Go data bundles will have a fair use policy when used outside of the UK i.e., Roaming. For all non-UK bundle use, there will be a 25% fair usage policy for the data allocation. This means if you have a 100GB bundle only 25GB of it can be used while roaming. The table below details the current bundles and their new fair usage allowance.
Bundle10GB30GB100GB
Fair usage EU Roaming Cap2.5GB7.5GB25GB

This means you will no longer be able to use the full data allowance while roaming for any new bundle purchased or activated on or after 1st October 2024.

The Plan

We strongly believe that IQ Go remains the best option for touring in the UK, and for short trips abroad.
For longer trips and heavier usage we are committed and working extremely hard behind the scenes to deliver an alternative solution for our IQ Go travel products. This involves exploring alternate options with alternate suppliers. We know the main appeal for our current offer is no fair usage policies while roaming, long trips, and bundles that enable you to watch uninterrupted sport, soaps, and Netflix. Therefore, we will be reviewing our bundles, prices, and allowances to continue offering something in this space very soon. We will not be exiting this space and plan to offer an alternative option very soon. We have presented some ideas & options below.

The Options

These changes have come downhill from our current supplier with noticeably short notice, we are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this causes and appreciate it is not what you initially signed up for. Therefore, you can choose from any of these options:

1) Continuing - Staying with IQ Go with the new fair usage policies.
This is useful for those with lower data requirements that use it for SatNav, Email, social media, staying connected with loved ones. Typically, it’s only high quality TV that causes a full 100GB to be used in a month.

2) Migrating - You can exchange your SIM for one of our new plans (when they are launched) these new SIMs should have the following benefits - no cap on time abroad, for example permanent roaming will be allowed and no 90-day cap! Greater choice in bundles, for example you could buy a French/Spain only bundle. More on this soon.

3) Disconnect - You can terminate your SIM without penalty and if your SIM is within 12-month annual subscription then we will refund you for however many months are remaining. For example, if you purchased the SIM 6 months ago, then we will refund you for the remaining 6 months without prejudice and no hard feelings.

We have enjoyed supporting you with the IQ Go service, we feel we have done a particularly respectable job of helping you set up your routers whilst providing quick comprehensive support at all times of the day/night and weekends. We hope that you can work with one of the above choices, and we hope you stick with us for the updated version of our travel SIM offering, however that may look.

The best way of contacting us around these changes would be by email: help@helloiq.uk or using our WhatsApp 07480782101. If you are opting for disconnect and refund, please let us know. The others you can contact us as and when you have seen our new options.

Finally, if you’re not using the SIM anymore, please let us know so we can cancel it off.

All the best

I agree. I am staying put for the time being. Could be some interesting options on the horizon.

Agree, it will be interesting, and the best of both worlds, if they can do a deal that will allow migration between the existing IQGO 100gb U.K. SIM and any future Option 2 EU deal on a temporary basis.

I don't know why so many seem averse to Tesco, all your data in the EU including if you have an unlimited contract and two months in four fair usage, but myself and others have done three months with no repercussions?
Tesco are only promising no roaming fees until the end of 2024. They may extend that next year but no guarantee.

I had always used Carphone warehouse because there were actual shops but Currys took them over at some point and now they have a physical presence inside. The one at Cribbs had the very old computer system from Carphone, just text based on screen, no mouse, but the young lad could use it and there were none of the modern security barriers and hoops to jump to unlocking and resetting and sorting a new sim as the old one had failed. Just had to give address.

Yes we do. Got the 24month contract last year. £8 a month & 30gb. All can be used in eu & it rolls over in uk. Unlimited txt & calls to uk numbers. Plus first 4 months (?) only £4. Then I got a £30 Amazon voucher to spend. What’s not to like?

It’s a real shame that this has come about, but I won’t be asking for a refund as I don’t want the company to collapse for something that isn’t really their fault, and they are doing what they can, and are keeping us informed, which is a rare thing these days.
