I'm in Düsseldorf. What van would you like me to look at?

Looked at mostly everything, but was rushed. One standout for me was a Compact Carthago, a stunning little A Class coming in at around 2900KG. It was on actually standing on scales with the weight displayed in 6 inch high digits above.. Siân took a video of the weight changing when I climbed aboard, but I won't be showing you that :D. For those of you with fat wallets and a need to downsize becaause of age or other licence issues, this is a superb van coming in at a weight with a useable payload. Not many A class vans do that, especially as well specced as this one. I took a load of pics of it if anyone is interested I can post them later when I have better internet.

Fairly certain we will be ordering one on Friday either that or one of us will be arrested for murdering the other.

Payload is a bit misleading as being German everything is extra so you need to add around 100kg to the MIRO for basic extras and a well specced one a far bit more.
Also everyone I have known with Carthagos they have come out of the factory between 128 to 130 kg over nominal weight, too much of a coincidence to be manufacturing variations. They obviously make use of the 5% tolerance to give a more effective payload.

The smallest one the 138 is just about useable 3500 if you are careful, even Minxy girl had hers uprated to 3850.

Yes this van weighed in around 50kg more than the book weight. You can forget MIRO with this particular van As it was on the scales You know what it weighs. You have 600kg to play with Not a lot but enough for a careful couple of dancers with a low BMI.

Are you at the show Lenny ?

Having had big bling rolling gin palaces. I can’t imagine driving a beautiful new A Class Morelo, Carthago or anything similar in The UK.

When we had our big new motorhomes we were always on the continent, pre brexit.

But in our 22 year old Hymer, travelling around the UK recently, I kept shouting “F in BUSHES”. Why are there so many overgrown shrubs, trees and hedges on country roads in the UK ?

Not read the rest of the thread yet but just to clarify this, yes we did uprate as we knew we'd be too close to 3500kg with 3 dogs (one 25kg) plus all their crap .... I hate to think what all the toys, blankets etc weigh never mind the dog food! With us wild camping/parking all the time we knew we'd also be taking plenty of supplies with us and a full 150L water tank so better to be on the safe side, when we did weight it once fully loaded up we were very close to 3500kg so I'm glad we did as we tend to 'acquire' stuff as we travel as we like to do car boot sales, vide greniers etc so often the MH comes back off holiday heavier than when we left home! :giggle:

Of course the bonus of uprating was we have lower road tax!

Yes the “F in bushes” and trees are a menace, I think the coach mirrors make me even more paranoid.

Anybody thinking of getting a Concorde, the magic motorhome man, Andy, does warranty work gor them.
Among Concorde owners he has a brilliant reputation. Located on the coast in Portsmouth he used to work for Southdowns the former Concorde dealer.
I assume that's Andy Bottle?

Do you have his address?

Good luck, back from the far east then !
Got back midnight Sunday after being up for 23 hours, jet lag has really got me this time.
It will be a slow trip with plenty of stops to Dusseldorf. Getting the tunnel at 6:20 today.

Damm this thread .... at 11pm this morning I hadn't even thought about going to Dusseldorf, but, you know how it goes...... you see some pictures of shiny things to look at ..... and then you check the tunnel price and think 'eck no way! that's too pricey for a short trip as I have to be back in the UK for Wednesday .... but then you check the Dover - Calais boat and it actually seems pretty reasonable.

All of sudden it's 3pm and you find you've booked the while trip, leaving in couple of hours time to get to Canterbury PnR so you're in place for the boat out at 8am tomorrow morning....

Got my tickets for the show on Friday including overnight parking Thursday to Friday late afternoon. Now have three days to doodle around Germany, followed by a huge shop in France and back on the boat Tuesday lunchtime.

Lenny, was that you parked up at Eurotunnel late yesterday afternoon, then made a mad dash at the final call for boarding card D1? Rita seemed to think it was you, going by the unusual private Reg No on your Hymer. ;) Safe travels. (y)

We stopped over at Bergues.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Sounds like, it wasn't a mad dash had loads of time.
I saw a Flair parked in line with a few other vans, must have been you sorry we missed you.
We were booked on the 6:20 but got on the 5:20, it loaded early and left a few minutes early only 4 vehicles in the high section.

One's interpretation differs to that of my witness.

We were scheduled for the 20.20hrs train, but got loaded on to the 17.40hrs one. (y)

Yes, that would have been us. No problems. :)
I hope you both see what you are looking for, (and at the right price of course), at the Salon.

Enjoy,

Jock. :)

Blimey you get there early, my best to date is driving on the boat and it had left the dock before I got the handbrake on, a bit more safety conscious since the TT disaster.

Already thrashed out a deal, just need to see the van. If it goes ahead it will be the first time we have bought a van in the UK.

A nice dark wheat to start the afternoon
Ah yes, a Weissbier Dunkel, my favourite (y) although quite hard to get sometimes. I hope you enjoyed Jim. :)

Our arrival in Germany is slightly delayed, so my consumption of Weissbier will have to wait for now. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Weissbier Dunkel

Very nice indeed. My dodgy knee noticed it when after three Dunkel's sat in direct sun I got up to find the loo! a little wobble but I soon found me sea legs and straightned my course. Home now with a cup of Yorkshire tea (y)
