I'm in Düsseldorf. What van would you like me to look at?

I hate it when you assume it's called a 79.
You could be forgiven for assuming as the Home 79 is basically 7.9m and the 82 is 8.2m (y) so of course it would follow that a Loft 79 is 7.9m oh no it's not and not by a long way(n) why? I haven't got a clue.

Anybody thinking of getting a Concorde, the magic motorhome man, Andy, does warranty work gor them.
Among Concorde owners he has a brilliant reputation. Located on the coast in Portsmouth he used to work for Southdowns the former Concorde dealer.

That’s French Jon, 79F is a nice van but the garage is compromised with the walk around the end of the bed, check that the front seats turn OK Mr porky Right one was really tight when we looked but it was a few years ago.
I was on phone screen, now seen it bigger. I wouldnt call that a french bed, its the wrong way round, looks more like what they used to call Queens Bed. Front end looks really tight as well.

Yes possibly. We looked at a few of these rufty tufty ones. They are good but then when you add it up they can get very expensive.
I would imagine they would be a bit challenging on a long drive, softer suspension, coarser tread tyres, different gearing, probably quite entertaining on a motorway in a crosswind. Why the under 8 metres requirement? Most of the interesting stuff is just over.

Am I reading the Loft Liner brochure correctly that its manual

Martin will able to confirm, most Morelo the basic van is manual but the auto is included in the chassis pack and you can't really buy one without that pack.

We travel in the UK at least 3 months of the year and I find it challenging with a vehicle over 8 metres. Europe is not a problem although I can imagine greece would be challenging as well.

Thats pretty much what I thought, the Loft Liner is a Eurocargo chassis which I thought had dropped the manual option long ago. Just seems an odd thing to list as a feature

We have pretty much ruled out 4x4 and anything that needs a shovel with wheels strapped onto the roof, although looks daring and romantic the reality is we don't go anywhere requires that level of survival kit.

The problem these days is the chassis choices are a bit limited and all of them have their pros and cons. personally I hate "Driver Aids" Stop Start, Collision Avoidance, ACC even Lane departure alert, first things I turn off when I get in a modern vehicle. I'm sure they will eventually get better but they re not there yet. I also don't like this trend to make everything artificially lighter because - like the Smove A class - it makes them too flimsy for my liking and you can't carry the stuff you want to. And then you ve got the lets squeeze increasing amounts of BHP out of ever smaller engines, which leads to even more techno to make them work.

I must sound like a complete Luddite but all I want is something that I can understand how to operate and that works as it should with a degree of longevity.

Yes it's brilliant when tech works but oh dear what a fanny on when it doesn't.

Correct Lenny ;) yes the Loft and indeed all the models on the Daily are standard 180 bhp with manual box, the chassis pack gets the ZF auto, diff lock, engine upgrade to 210 bhp, and a few other bits, the Loft liner so Eurocargo is "Automatized" as standard.

Looked at mostly everything, but was rushed. One standout for me was a Compact Carthago, a stunning little A Class coming in at around 2900KG. It was on actually standing on scales with the weight displayed in 6 inch high digits above.. Siân took a video of the weight changing when I climbed aboard, but I won't be showing you that :D. For those of you with fat wallets and a need to downsize becaause of age or other licence issues, this is a superb van coming in at a weight with a useable payload. Not many A class vans do that, especially as well specced as this one. I took a load of pics of it if anyone is interested I can post them later when I have better internet.

 no more than you have for the past couple of years Jon but I do get what you say, the one thing on your list that I actually like is the adaptive cruise control ACC, I didn't spec it as I wasn't that bothered and certainly wasn't going to pay €8k for the package but by a quirk of a factory cock up we ended up with it(y)

Yes, ..Talking to a guy at the show who's opinion I respect, and who owned a new Malibu, he said in 30 years of motorhome ownership he'd never owned such a poor build quality van.
