Ian and helga go south !!

Blimey !! I was enjoying this thread, no doubt about your feelings, I presume you don't eat meat!
Cheers
Ed
absolutely, I am a lifelong carnivore. however I expect any meat to come from animals that are killed without making them suffer. none of that cutting the throat whilst muttering a prayer crap

Ian, you can't go from Cadiz to Seville and not call in to Jerez, it's lovely and it's on the way to Seville. As a walk around city I found it nicer than Seville. The 11th century Alcazar, the sherry factories and the Royal Andalusian Equestrian School all well worth a visit. The flamenco's pretty good too

The Gonzalez Byass sherry company has loads of barrels dedicated to celebs - see attached pic, and the story of the company is fascinating, especially Tio Pepe (Uncle Pepe) and the mouse! Pic below shows food and sherry always left out on the factory floor for the mouse!!

View attachment 95749 View attachment 95750 View attachment 95751 The free samples are quite good too and the tour is not too expensive! Jerez is also well known for motorbike racing, and its circuit attracts Formula One testing... How can you pass all this up??
Strange my surnane on the barrel?? must go there may get a free drink?

Good morning,,, suns out and it's lovely already! Got one load of washing in! Had a bit of a tidy up but helga needs a good scrub. So I will think about that for a couple of days and sort her out when I come back from Cadiz!!

Just gonna try and get a lift to caravan spares place this morning to try and get a pump for water tank! Old one still working but a bit sporadically!!

I went outside for a fag last night and it was quite dark, when I was coming back into helga I missjudged the bottom step and cracked my shin on it!!! Cor it did hurt!! I couldn't scream in agony cause people were asleep!! So I bit my tongue and had to man up !!! But another lesson learnt !

Ok so now I have a bit of a dilemma!!!
I am planning on being in Seville next week and I am very much looking forward to it!! But. ( and this will upset some of you , maybe). I wanted to see a bullfight! Now I looked at schedule on Internet ten mins ago and they don't start till the end of the month!! So now I don't know what to do?? It really was a priority on my list, due to the tradition and pageantry of it all, and to me it's a major part of Spain !!

So do I wait? Go into Seville then go back, wait here and get gas service done, all bits and go in 3 weeks ? I'm unsure now ? Don't moan at me but if you want to suggest an idea that's cool ! Have a good morning, catch you later !! And later I will touch upon finances, mine not yours !! Lol. Xxxx
Like you I wanted to see a bullfight. I was in Barcelona in 1969 when I saw a poster for a major event. Then and more so now any such abuse of any animal fills me with revulsion but I thought I should go so I'd know what I was talking about. If you can sit through a major Spanish bullfight you're a better man than I. I saw two bulls killed and left just after the third event started. Even the name of the event is a misnomer: no Spaniard fights bulls. They face a stricken animal in extreme pain after having its shoulder muscles ripped to shreds by picadors on horseback before the matador enters the ring. It can barely lift its head and is a shadow of the beautiful fit animal that first enters the arena. Pageantry maybe but blood, pain, and the worst of human behaviour, most definitely. Do go - but be prepared for what you will see.

Do you think animals are not frightened when in line at the Abattoir?

Maybe someone should start a separate thread to discuss the pro's and con's of bullfighting. We all have our opinions, but this doesn't seem the place to air them.

Can we move on to something more cheerful, which this thread had been up till now?

He's gone quiet again , he was going to tell us about his finances, and going for spares but this bull fighting thing has took us off track a bit.

Who looked at this picture and thought back to Ian getting out of bed and his ladder / nads incident?:ROFLMAO:

Lets get back on track(y)

Bloody hell, I hadn't realised there was a rusty 6" nail sticking out the top of the ladder! :Eeek:

I am sorry that the talk of me wanting to see a bullfight has upset some and one or two in particular , I'm sorry also that it led to the upset some are expressing!! However I don't want to have a row about animal cruelty etc cause I think it's a no win situation ! ( especially for the animals that undergo it) I'm afraid there are nasty cruel tossers all over the world!!! So once again I'm sorry for bringing it up !!

I'm off to Cadiz in an hour or so, plenty of food, drink and laughter should be on the menu !! It's a lovely day and the sun is shining!!!

I will no doubt post later and let you know how it's all going !!
Have a good morning , Ian. X

Enjoy Cadiz, and the rest of your trip (y)

I forgot to say, I went to a caravanne/ Motorhome place yesterday and good news and bad!!! They can't do a gas service, but told me down the road where I could get one ! They don't have the 12 v water pump I need but can get one in 2 or 3 days. And they also can get me a new canopy/ awning thingy in 2 or 3 days!
Now when I ripped the awning off I left the long bracket that secures it to helga on the side,, I will take her to the dealer for him to see it but he is suggesting I get a different canopy, fiamma instead of Thule omnistor!!! Now the bracket is old but I just thought that the omnistor may fit straight on! The fiamma has 3 separate brackets and apparently has a better parts history?? I'm unsure about it. What do you think !!

The approximate cost of both fitted is around 700 euros including tax and fitting !

Not too sure about which one is better, I am biased towards Thule. I had the option of Factory fitted Thule or Dealer fitted Fiamma, but having just trashed the end plate on my brand new one, someone on here gave me a link to a Thule spares cataloge and they seem to have everything.

Do you really need one? We have one on ours but in three years of touring around Europe we have had it out about three times, then it was more trouble than it was worth.
If you are staying in one place for about a week ok , but touring around , moving on most days, it's just not worth it, wouldn't miss ours.

Well chaser I am a smoker and I need or will need a bit of cover in uk when it's raining. Lol. Plus the canopy fits on the fridge side of helga and a bit of shade later on wont hurt!! Or so I'm told!! Lol.

I use mine for shelter like you say, good in the UK, often warm enough to sit out but then a few spots of rain fall!

It's good shade for my dogs, but I can see how some non smoking, non dog owning Funsters might not see the value.

Just caught up with your thread Ian, you can't imagine how chuffed I am that you are enjoying Cadiz, as I said when I recommended it to you that I canceled our trip to Seville from the Cruise ship as I had popped into Cadiz and fell in love with the place, now I am looking forward to seeing some of these other places mentioned like Jerez.

Keep enjoying the travels and keep reporting in; by the way, your pictures, good or bad, are all we have so please put on as many as you can. The pictures of Cadiz took me back there straight away.

Griff, it's the loveliest place I've been so far!! And I am now climbing into the phaeton for the return to Cadiz for the 2 days festivities!! ( well it is for us anyway). X

I was in the middle of cleaning the van after my trip earlier this week, then the hail came!

€700 seems a bit steep I'm sure you can pick 1 up for a lot less than that in the uk at a show, and as someone else said we used ours hardly at all last year , we have a small freestanding one which attaches to the van and use that if we are staying in one place for more than a couple of days , have fun in Cadiz

Hello Ian. You'd need that awning down here today to provide a bit of shade! The currant bun is out and the sunshine is blinding. None of that white stuff that they have in the Midlands or ooop North. It's a bit nippy around the nickers mind, but you'd be blinded without that awning!

James

We have a 4.5m Awning and wouldn't be without it, we tend to cook outside as we like smelly food and rather those smells outside than inside (even with an extractor) we have also bought a privacy room for the extra covered space it will afford us and we use it, last weekend we put one end up and one small front panel which allowed us to BBQ and slow cook outside, cold but dry.
