Ian and helga go south !!

There's more to Spain than sea and cities! :) Don't forget the mountains though I'll admit it is probably a bit chilly if you go too high.

However, going from the coast to Granada you'll pass near the Alpujarras region which is well worth a look. There is a campsite at Pitres which I think is open all year round. On their website there is a map under "location" which shows where it is if you zoom out. The road to the village is fine if you take a bit of care on the bends as they are often single track at this point. The campsite is pretty basic though! http://balcondepitres.com

Right here we are again and I am now going to say my bit !!! To be perfectly honest I have seen enough Spanish half inhabited seaside towns, I have had about 300 coffees, 1 ton of cake, I have walked for bloody miles up and down deserted beaches stopping only to wee and drink more coffee!! I am thoroughly enjoying Spain but I am going to see the city side of life now!! So Granada first, I will head there tomorrow!! Slowly!! Then I will stay for I hope about 3 days I'm sure there's loads to see! And I like to explore the dingier sides of towns. That's where the real life is!! So at the moment I have done the seaside to death and the next time I see the sea I hope it will be from Portugal !! So Granada first then Seville. I havnt heard anything negative about either so I hope it will be a good experience!!
I think you are in need of someone to share your experiences with, get yourself on a pairing site and find someone willing to fly out and join you. I would put money on it that you would be overwhelmed with offers of a free trip around Spain in a motorhome. Keep their return ticket on hold case you dont get on. ;)(y)

Make sure you see the Alhambra Ian, particularly the Court of the Lions. It is so beautiful and it's appropriate to see Moorish art at present to remind us that not everything Islamic is bad. The gardens of the Generaliffe are stunning too.

After Seville where you can see the fabulous Alcazar and Christopher Columbus's tomb (brilliant), head to Jerez and take a tour of the Gonzalez Byass sherry factory. It's very interesting to see the vats of sherry belonging to celebrities etc. You can also see a performance of the Andalusian School of Equitation which is fascinating, and then drive on to the ocean at Cadiz (or go on the train from Jerez). Such a lot to see and do, I'm envious, it's all lovely!

Catherine
Brilliant Catherine. Thank you !! Or I should say. Muchas Gracias por la servicio !!! Lol. X

I got you lot to keep me company!!!

Hi Ian, I took a Christmas cruise just over a year ago and the ship called in to Cadiz so that we could visit Saville; I took one brief look at Cadiz and fell in love with the place, I quickly canceled the coach trip to Seville and spent all day and a bit of the evening looking around Cadiz. It is truly intriguing and the beauty is I still have Seville in my Must Do list, so if you see the sign post to Cadiz, hang a left and 'ave a butchers. . . . . Griff

By the way like so many others I don't write on your Blog much but I really do enjoy it. See you in a field or a bar sometime and thanks for the PM on WiFi too.

Another vote here for El Roccio, it is like a wild west town with hitching rails for horses outside the houses and all built on sand !!
Also the Al Hambra is a MUST.
Built by a king for his lady, water running everywhere and beautiful moorish alabaster carved statues, lions and arches etc... Wonderful.
Glad you are enjoying the lifestyle mate, it really is the dogs doodahs aint it !!
You are right to avoid the dating sites, it will happen as and when !!
You WILL know when its right.
You don't want another incontinent, alcoholic, halitosis ridden geriatric with smelly feet and one eye !! or DO you ?? Each to their own,, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder .

Dont miss Cordoba after Granada, I think the best of the three. Ask for Califa brewery in old town, excellent micro brewery.
Will pull out aire details.

For Granada we used Reia Isabel, bus to Alambra. head off early .Say 8 ,dont use ticket office, go to rear and use self service machines. Cordoba has a camperstop on a car park near old town wall, approach with football stadium on left, head straight on till you cross river, straight on and you will see motorhomes parked to your right, you need to circle block to find entrance.
In Seville we used a camperstop adjacent river in a transport yard,20min walk in to town, I,m sure some one will follow with coordinates. Both the last 2 were hard to find with sat nav.
Safe journey, may be over later in month.

Jtp I have found that site and actually just put coordinates in sat ab mate. It looks ok and not too far from wherever! Cheers. Ian.

We stayed at alto de Vinuela a few weeks ago. Great wee site with fantastic view of the mountains. Bus to Granada stops right outside. We went for a couple of drinks at the bar which is on the site but doesn't belong to them I don't think. Got a decent tapa with each drink and they had the open fire on. Nice place overall.

For Granada we use the site at Beas Granada!
Bootiful views, restaurant and bus from gate at €3.50 return to Granada.

Hello, nice warm breeze tonight,, parked right up to beach, all day alone and now about 6 frenchies have pulled up !! They like to get close don't they!!

Anyway I had a lovely lunch today due to the fact that a lovely German woman talked me into ordering fursten Werner schnitzel burger stiffler !! I don't know what it was but it was lovely!!

Then after dinner I had a walk on the beach, saw an old boy fishing and spent 3 or so hours with him, he was Spanish, I was rabbiting away In English, he was going on in Spanish and together we had not one idea what we were saying !! But it was still a good afternoon!

There was a lovely warm wind from somewhere today, I've never felt a wind as warm? Really nice , so tomorrow I'm heading for Granada which I am looking foreward too, then due to your recommendations. Cadiz. Then Seville, should be an interesting time!! Hope you are all well and staying dry !! Ian xx

You're not wrong Ian. No matter how big the parking area is, they'll pitch up close to you. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Why do they do that jock ?? It's a bit of a wind up to be honest!! There's half a mile of space and they want to get within 3ft of me!!!! Both sides!! Madness!!

Good morning Ian, :)
A couple of big Rotweillers sat outside your van might do the trick.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Morning anthea, I'm actually on my third cuppa now but I have to stay in helga!! Every time I go to open my door there is a freaky white poodle looking at me from next vans window ! And he's got a dodgy bottom jaw so it looks like he's mentally unstable, it's quite unnerving when I just want my tea outside, and I'm being glared at by a lunatic dog!!! Who is clearly drooling !!

Haha they love their little dogs or shit machines as we call them! Don't think they know about pooper scooper bags some of the streets in france are worse than here! 3rd cuppa already! 2 ahead of me! Enjoy your day!
P.s. I wondered if you had moved to another plot they would have followed!!

Another vote for Cadiz - went there on Tuesday - fabulous city.
Also take a look at Pinar SanJose campite in Zahora and not too far to Cadiz. Brilliant site - we originally booked in for 2 days and have extended our stay 3 times now!

Dude. You got the co ordinates handy for that site? X

I would find time to squeeze in a visit to a sherry bodega if going near Cádiz. We went to one in Puerto Santa Maria, an hour or so well spent. Sanluca de Barrameda is another of the sherry triangle towns where you will find bodegas and has an aire I believe.

A word of warning Ian re the weather coming in all over Spain and including Andalucia. Tomorrow are expecting VERY strong winds - so much so that there are loads of warnings being issued stating as strongly as 'risk of death!' And to stay inside and up to 4m waves ! After that - the temperatures are due to plummet for most of next week and the snow line is forecast at 800m.
Choose you're site/pitch carefully and be prepared!!!
As you head inland - you will be climbing all the way.
But remember - it's always safe and dry and warm in a bar!
