Ian and helga go south !!

Hello chaser,,

When I left uk I was registered at a mates address,, I don't get any important post, banking online , statements come online etc!
If it looks official my mate opens and reads em to me,,
Insurance on Motorhome from that address, paid for 1 yr..now they told me I was covered for unlimited days abroad , safeguard ins ( nearly £500 per year)
Travel insurance I have which is private, very good cover. With virgin. £150 for 6 months ( the longest cover I could get)
Obviously I have ehic also !!
Post was the big one that others seem to have trouble with , but there you go solved in one.(y)

Ian , I know I get on your nerves with these sort of questions, but just for info and maybe help to others thinking of following you, without personal details, how do you get on with your post, national insurance, tax ,even the insurance on your mh , is that OK for more than three months away and other stuff like that, don't know if you have travel insurance but if you have , most don't work after three months.
Sorry if it's put a damper on your evening, just something I have been thinking about.
Post = http://www.boatmail.co.uk/
National insurance = on line (end of Jan back dated to previous tax year)
Tax = on line self assessment ( end of Jan backdated to previous tax year) presence not required in the UK to complete.
Motorhome insurance = safeguard do unlimited euro cover as standard most others do something in months for cover.
Travel insurance= many backpacker type insurers cover for 3/6/12 month trips now.......
Next ? (y)

Sorry Ian I know the question is to you, but believe me the amount of time Ian is away is not long, lots of Funsters are away for 6 months, there is of course private insurance available but many rely on the E11 which works very well, I can think of 6 funsters Off the top of my head who are a lot older than Ian who are away 6. Months at a time, then there are properly 15/20 funsters who have spent the last 3/4 months in Morocco this year as we have done then move on to Portugal for a couple of months no probs. Ian has an address in the UK (posted in a post early on) that is the biggest obstacle, most other things can be sorted, insurance on your m/home is no problem, quite a few do unlimed time abroad. One of the limiting factors for some who are on a Benefit of some type or other, you have to return to the UK within 3 months, though I could be wrong I think I seen somewhere it could be changing to a month, think that would be a problem for some. I really don't think Ian has any worry's on any of the questions raised, Ian has already sorted his post out and had some delivered in Spain. :)

Chaser is a bundle of fun isn't he!

Important questions and concerns though.

Glad Ian has it sorted.

I wondered if there might be a business as a postal address for people who travel. When I worked for a Romany gentleman (he was a settled Romany, lived in a house) his address was used by many of the family members and one of my jobs was to ensure all vehicles were legal with MOT, VED and insurance. As they all had the same last name I had fun with that!

You don't know me, just covering things that might crop up, most , as me are retired so a lot of these things don't matter a lot but for someone of working age all sorts of things have to be attended to , whether we like it or not.:(

I think boatmail provide a real address for DVLA purposes.

Ask any full timer - all things are sortable !
We did 4 years - no issues.
Po box address for mail and DVLA and bank etc - I used my-uk-mail , others are available!

Back to my beer!
