Hymer Duomobile Indicator Woes

Mine did.
Lenny, just picked our Hymer B674 up from not being used since last October and surprise the indicator, off side (UK) doesn't work. The headlamp does. The nearside side does. Have until the 21st May to try and sort it but assume the loom will not be available anytime soon. Do you think the company in Bognor Regis might be able to help as an interim? If so their info would be very useful. And I would be very grateful! Thank you. Paul

They didn't actually sort out my fault but they appear to be OK generally so probably will be able to.
Does your van have the plastic headlamps with built in LED running lights & indicator strips?

yes they do. Should I go for having both looms done - its only the off side (right hand side). And was it just the one loom? IMG_0923 2.JPG

From my earlier post see post #46.
Easy enough to repair yourself.
apologies more questions! to get access to the loom do you take the headlamp unit out? If so just undo the allen keys (4?) around the top and the bottom just clips out somewhere? Or do I loose 10 stone and and 20 years and perform a acrobatic act trying to course the connections?

Yes just the 3 socket capped screws then a bit of fiddling to get them out.
One plug in the main loom and two on the ballast unit, the ones on the ballast unit are a right pig to get off. Most of us who have them out have filed the locating tabs off the ballast unit and sprayed with silicon so if you need to get it out again it will be easier.

My 2018 Exsis 678 has just developed a problem with the offside DRL, same head light unit I think as Lenny’s. the DRL strip is blinking, do you think it could be the same issue with the wiring loom? Indicators working fine, just the white led strip.

Mine was UK nearside indicator and DRL not working, but the fault will vary depending on which wire is broken in the loom.
Now we know the problem it's an easy fix if you are OK with a soldering iron.

Great, thanks Lenny. Yes ok with a soldering iron, do you think the flickering DRL is the same fault, ie the loom then?

you might be better to simply ditch the soldering iron and replace the specific wire/s.
Mine had the issue with both the DRL and the indicators. You might want to tape the bottom edge of the light housing before attempting to remove it protect the paintwork. I am now an expert having watched a specialist sort it for me. There is also enough room in the engine compartment to get access. I would also do both sides whilst you are at it as the nearside failed once the wires were touched. See quite the expert now!

It's a high chance it is caused by corrosion on the loom, hope so, a new headlamp is £870.
I would take both headlamps out and swap them over and then swap the looms over that should establish where the fault is. You need to check every wire in the loom carefully. Where the loom plugs into the ballast unit they are a pig to get off, I filed the retaining pips off of the ballast unit & sprayed them with silicone so if I needed to get them off when travelling it will make it easier.

Received my (2) looms from Travelworld last Wednesday change LHS all good now ready to travel ?????? again south to the sun .

Does anybody know if I can fit a tow bar to my B588DL please
You will need to contact Alko U.K. for the chassis extensions etc, apparently it’s not a simple job.

thanks for the advice, I’ll have a go!

finally got round to removing the loom, soldering iron at the ready to fix the breaks in the wires. However, didn’t get very far and found the main connector in the loom is badly corroded and a pin has broken off. Really disappointing on a 3 year old van, seems water has been getting in as some others have reported. i just hope that I can get new looms in time for summer hols and that the sockets are not damaged either?

I think it’s something Hymer should be doing a recall on as there have been so many problems however once they have your money they don’t seem to care🤔

They don’t look good, but it’s hard to see properly. I’ll clean them up and hope the new looms will sort it. I’ll also change the cable tie position so that they are higher up and water can’t run down straight into the back of the connectors. Poor show from Hymer, wish I had spotted it when it was under warranty!

I have also glued some white silicone sheet around the headlights where the hole for them is cut so that no water can get through the gaps that seems to have kept air all dry.
you can see by how grotty it has got how much water runs down off the roof etc🤔

You can buy replacement pins from suppliers like RS components, along with the tools to release each wire

The silicone sheet could be a good idea, there’s a massive gap around the headlamp unit
Yes it certainly works and as long as you don’t seal the bottom edge you can still get at light fixings I stuck it on with Stixall😊👍

Mine is a 2016 model with earlier headlight units but on checking there are signs of slight corrosion on a couple of wires leading from the loom plug/socket so I have split a plastic drinks bottle and covered the plug/sockets to keep them dry in future.
