Hymer Duomobile Indicator Woes

When you say the wire insulation is split around the wire, is it possible the insulation is too hard, and not malleable enough, thereby cracking ?

It is possible as it is thin walled cable with high purity copper but the cuts look too neat for that. Looks like it's been cut with a tool.

Thank you Lenny, still hanging onto this van can’t see one we prefer! (For the size anyway!)
These are the LED‘s we use in our almond shape headlights, nice and bright.

Further investigation I found several wires in the loom nicked with corrosion on the copper showing. I repaired them by cutting, stripping back then soldering, sleeve each joint with 1 mm silicon sleeving then adhesive lined heat shrink.

I made 6 repairs to the left hand loom and 1 to the right hand loom.

Many thanks for the above post, I have just repaired a similar fault on my 2017 duomobile, the French distributors are no more helpful than the English. Trying to explain the problem in “technical French” is extremely difficult your help is most appreciated, I had one broken wire and a further three repairs on exposed and slowly corroding wires.

Sorted ours with the assistance of the HOG team (very helpful group) by ordering a new wiring loom behind the headlight. When replacing the loom we noted that the factory fitted clips are too tight and that is where the breakage in the wire had occurred. Have removed these clips on the new loom so fingers crossed this will not reoccur.

Are you referring to the clips on the back of the lamp unit that the loom is cable tied to?

The clips on the wiring loom itself.

I don't remember seeing any clips on my loom, there were clips on the lamp unit the loom was cable tied to & a cable tie wrapped around a chassis member near the big plug on the main loom. The breaks in my loom were nowhere near where any clips had been.
Got to have the lamp out to fit the LED bulbs so I'll have a look.

Hi Lenny, ours is a DL588 so maybe slightly different. The loom had clips for fixing loom to bodywork and cable ties around the sheathing and it was at one of the cable ties where the break was. We have removed these and loosely cable tied the loom to the bodywork and kept it at a higher location to reduce water exposure from water going below the headlight. Others have noted this exposure to the loom and connectors. May also be worth considering water repellant spray.

Mine is a 678DL so should be the same but may vary on year build ours was built Feb 2017.

If I had a pound for every fuse and connection that tested good and still failed to operate what it should I would be a good few pounds richer.
Simply open circuit or closed circuit right
Not on your life.
They do pass muster with a test lamp or meter but the sneaky ones faint when asked to perform.
Bear that in mind always when circuit testing
Multimeters in the wrong hands are simply misleading. As you infer they'll read unloaded battery voltage through a piece of wet string (or the worst possible corroded connection). For most people and for most jobs on a vehicle a 5W test bulb is a far better choice.

Just to add to this thread. I own a 2017 B588DL, two days ago indicator/drl failed on offside, van has not moved in 6 weeks. Yesterday I stripped out the wiring harness and sure enough as Lenny’s findings found one of the thin wires had a thin cut across it and oxidisation was present all the others tested out OK for continuity. Great I thought, wire snipped and back to shiny copper and soldered still no continuity, examined it again with a magnifying aid tiny cut found which is covered by the loose braiding sleeve, when bent at this cut oxidisation present and wire core was sheared. Cut wire 3 inches from plug and at my repair new length of wire soldered and sealed in place, viola all now working.
But here is both the interesting and worrying development, the repaired indicator and drl are much brighter suggesting there is a problem developing with the nearside loom. Photos show the wire fault and the difference in indicator brightness so I would urge folk with this type of headlight to look out for a difference in brightness it could indicate a potential problem with the wiring loom.
Pic 1 first easily seen break, next no continuity, then two of second break not easily seen, lastly brightness difference in indicators ( difference more pronounced in daylight on indicators than drl’s.

Boys I would like to thank you for for that information as mine is doing the same thing and this is my THIRD light???
New replacement wiring loom for headlights can be purchased through Travelworld be aware surprisingly in view of the numbers of failures they do not keep them in stock so order them as required from Hymer. I now carry a spare,

I've just ordered two. We started up our van today, for the first time since we got back from Germany in October, and the left indicator isn't working. I thought we'd do a replacement and carry a spare. Hope it doesn't take too long to get here.

The cable ties have been machine tightened excessively is one line of thought.
No cable ties anywhere near the breaks on mine.
IMO Either the grade of PVC used is too brittle of or they have been nicked going through the cutting and stripping machine, the feed grips set too tight.

What price are these looms to buy from Travelworld !!

For info, guessing the part number is that shown above the bar code. (Apologies the have posted sideways)

Thank you so much for the effort that you are doing for me it’s much appreciated

Thanks Stuart J
I will be ordering two tomorrow, if Hymer behave like they normally do it will be probably be three to four months before it arrives with me .
Cheers for the help 👍

Stewart J , Out of interest, can you detect any difference between the replacement loom and the originals?

Travelworld have said that orders of the looms are taking between 6 and 8 weeks to arrive. Apparently, the looms are very popular .

Hi All

I repaired the breaks in mine and bought another loom as a spare so haven’t compared them 👍
