H M The Queen

Just goes to show how pathetic most of the MP's are.....

In this clip from 1994, Leeds student Liz Truss tells ITV News the idea of the monarchy is 'disgraceful'. Earlier this week, she met the queen to be appointed as the new PM.
Don't let this nice thread disintegrate into hateful MP bashing. Please.

Hardly. My politics and views as a student in the late 70's were nothing like my views now!
But this is not the posting to introduce politics!

We all change with life and the experiences we have. Most of us are different people and hold different views from that of 30 or so years ago

Think it was 1970, HMQ visited NZ on the Royal yacht. When she came into Wellington, I was working on a pile driving gang, sinking the piles for the New Container Wharf.
The Gang consisted of 10 Brit Construction Riggers, I Pacific Islander Top Hand and a set of Maori twins.

As the Britania came around the corner , ready to berth in the Overseas Terminal, I was greasing the top sheave of the Crane, about 50-60 feet above the ground. As the Royal Yacht passed by, I Presented Arms using the Grease Gun .

Meanwhile below , the gang was on a log raft greasing the Snatch blocks for the wires from the Buoys.

As the Yacht passed, the Brits stood to attention and saluted, the Twins just stood there!.

"Hey c'mon Kiwi! salute the great mother from over the seas! !"

The eldest twin (by 10 mins) said "**** OFF Pommy she ain't my Queen!" He was thrown unceremoniously into the tide!
When they turned around to grab the other twin, he was saluting!

"Us Maoris learn the Pakihas way very Quickly" he said!

We all retired to the nearest pub

I've been Googling and getting conflicting views.
Some say she'll be queen. Others say queen consort.
The King has stated Camilla IS Queen Consort

A lovely picture of our future Queen Consort. A modern Greek Goddess?

AFAIK she will be The Queen, I think the Consort bit for Camilla is because she's King Charles' second wife and not the mother of his heirs.

The Queen ascends to the throne, where as a Queen Consort is married to a reigning monarch
Diana would also have been a Queen Consort
Yes. That's what I read.
But maybe the rules will be changed/adapted for Kate ;)

Yes but the point I suppose we are alluding to is the 'known as' or nomenclature. Diana would have been addressed as Queen in the same way as Queen Mary was as wife of King George V she was Queen Consort but never ever referred to as such. The issue of a divorcee married to a King whilst now more acceptable than as with Edward VIII and Wallace Simpson still has traction and ramifications even today. The agreed usage of Queen Consort for Camilla has brokered the acceptance of the Monarch married to a divorcee.
Katherine will most definately although a Queen Consort be referred to as Queen Katherine and rightly so.

But Camilla will be known as Queen Camilla as far as i understand, even though her offical title will be camilla, queen consort.

A Queen by marriage rather than succession, but with no constitutional power, same goes for Catherine.

Phillip was a Prince consort to Queen Elizabeth, as there is no precedence for a king consort..bit harsh!!

Well I suppose we will have to wait and see!

Just watching the Rugby League play off game (RL have decided to go ahead) between Catalan and Leeds in Perpignan black armbands and a meticulously observed minutes silence followed by a chorus of God save the King.
I was there, just as you say

I have no claim to know anything about the monarchy, but I have been following all of this with interest and I suppose they might just say day to day Queen Camilla for reasons of practicality? I don't think it helps in this day and age to draw a difference between people who are divorced and remarried compared to people who are originally married?
I'm sorry for the death of ER., and I say that on behalf of my late grandmother who was a committed fan of the Queen and who always defended her and sang her praises against a mid-1990s backdrop of apathy for the monarchy in Britain.

I don't ever recall in video/tv programmes that the Queen's mother was referred to as Queen Consort when King George VI was the reigning monarch.

A wonderful pic! I'm sure Charles III will make sure with whatever manner is available to him in a new and hectically restricted environment that his commitment to ensuring that climate change is and will continue to be prioritized! Liz will leave a few monarchical meetings with a flea in her ear I'm sure but we'll never know!!!
