H M The Queen

I'm a bit disappointed that HMQ will now go to London by plane rather than train. I would have gone to Berwick to pay respects as the train went through. I dare say a few people who live near the railway route feel the same way.
Yes I thought the same. A six hour visible drive through Scotland but a 3 hr flight impersonal flight to London.

Yes I agree. It would have added more to the occasion and the publics participation who could have seen the train from bridges etc. Opportunity missed.

She's probably being flown because the country is in enough of a mess without thousands lining the streets and the traffic chaos that goes with that .

Could it be a safety issue thay don't want hords on platforms possibly falling on the track if the crowd surged forward or someone trespassing on the line.
And getting run over by 400 tone's of Train

The state of the railway, she would have ended on on a rail replacement bus to that she 'would not be amused'
The logistics of moving a her body timely and with little disruption has to be considered hundreds of trains would be delayed or diverted thecworld goes on

Very good points about the uncertainty of Rail Union strike uncertainty. However I think they might have enhanced their case making an exception for facillitating the Royal Train carrying the Queens Coffin should there have been a strike. So I agree it would be an embarrasing risk to take. Rail Unions have lost an opportunity for some public brownie points on this occassion methinks!

I thought most of the Unions have called off the militant actions. I am sure that a train would run from Edinburgh to London quite happily without the risk averse health and safety mob getting involved. After all. People were stood at the side of the A92 dual carriageway with carnage.

No way could you trust the British public to not get in front of a train and get squashed
The occasional possibility of 'jumpers' is not just the preserve of the British Public as you seem to think! The possibility of the sad mad bad and fixated has formed the basis of UK Police Operation Orders and Risk Assessment threats for decades as it would in any other Nation around the world. However a confirmed specific Terrorist threat might. That is completely different to your shamefull agenda ridden generalisation that the British Public cannot be trusted 'to get in front of a train and get squashed'!

Health and safety? They will have their eye out.

People do a lot of things throughout the day. Standing at the side of a rail track (railway children) on stations and over bridges is not a health and safety situation.

I was just pointing out that the threat of strikes does not exist. So wind your neck in.
Not true. Our local postman tells me that plenty of industrial action is going on. I am waiting for two items which are way past their promised delivery date. Yet another nail in the RM coffin-!

Well if that is the case, shame on them. I am only repeating what I saw on the BBC Red Button.

 Oh! All parts of Rule 1 ignored in recent posts this evening. Remember it's a "RIP QEII" thread 🙏
Indeed it is but some outragous statements contravening Rule 1 need to be stopped in their tracks.

This is what I saw

BBC News - Strike action cancelled after the Queen's death

Let's hope that this time of mourning is not taken as an advantage by the Unions.

This has absolutely nothing to do with 'jumpers' as you refer to them. Having spent over 20 years on the railway I have seen too many instances of people not realising how dangerous the railways are.

A surge of the crowd on a platform and sumone on the track.

Railways are indeed dangerous. But not as dangerous as roads. Trains only go where the tracks take them and cannot swerve and run on a timetable. However cars/vans/lorries etc come at different speeds, can change direction ans come all the time. I had this argument with the DFT many times.

Keep this about the queen. Not difficult.
