H M The Queen

I remember coming out of a pub in a place called windy gates half pissed
And walking in front of a land rover with a lady in a hed scarf.
Who had stoped to let me cross apparently she had been at Falkland palice.
Apparently although it was not a official residence she visited regularly in the 80s
And done lead a normal life whare ever posibile
The car was followed by a range rover

Was that really necessary. It isn't in a decent world.
When my mum was diagnosed with cancer, I spent every minute with her I could. I went away for a weekend, and she died suddenly. She told my Stepdad, don't you dare spoil Gina's holiday if I get taken into hospital, but I know she would not have wanted me to race down the motorway to get to her. That still gives me comfort. Sorry, there is a certain person on here who is going to be wagging his finger at me for drifting off subject. But had to make that point just in case Prince Harry reads this and it gives him comfort ;)

Don’t think they could use helicopters because of bad weather issues.
There was a helicopter flying at the airport just before the plane landed so it was possible, the airport itself is well known for helicopters due the need to get out to rigs etc.

Very sorry. I misinterpreted your reply. Sorry

Our route home this evening took us past the gates of Sandringham and even though it’s dark people were stopping to lay flowers. Very touching.

And no Eastenders for those poor saps who like it. And no Emmerdale for this poor sap. Like you say life goes on, sad but true. RIP Queen Elizabeth II and much love to your family who all loved you. She vowed to serve her country for all of her life at the age of 25, I think, correct me if I am wrong, but that is what she did.

Gina.
Strange thing is that she was Queen Elizabeth the 1st here in Scotland, there was no union or UK when England had their previous Queen Elizabeth.
Good pub quiz fact to remember.
Just another useless but true fact from Scotlandshire.

Can someone in the BBC give us break from Hugh Edwards? He has been droning on for over 8 hours with his sidekick Witchell repeating the same thing over and over. Surely they need a break as well.

I think this gives us a measure of the Queens quiet diplomacy!

On a dog barking at Putin, she said: 'Dogs have interesting instincts, don't they?'

Wow, you and Northernraider really putting me to rights these days onto when I can comment on your threads and now English Queens. No-one has mentioned Andy Bell (Erasure)though, he's my favourite:ROFLMAO:

Anyone remember the day Philip dressed as a guard without her knowledge

Behind closed doors they had a laugh like the rest of us

So sad. A wonderful woman in every way. Her Coronation was the first time I ever saw a television. My sister bought one especially and we spent all day watching the event.
I'm not a fervent Royalist so I'm surprised how the news of her death has left me feeling peculiarly vulnerable and anxious for my own future and that of the word in general.

I love Sandringham. The estate is beautiful I have spent many happy hours walking around it with my dogs. My old boy Stanley loved it :heartbreak:

RIP, Having watched the queen's coronation on 9 inch screen , was probably when I became a Royalist at the age 8, the Queen I think held the country together through her values, we must not forget as well as working for us she was a mother who had seen some of her family causing her I suspect terrible stress, whilst still carrying on with the " job " I have never flinched from supporting the Monarchy, and those who would like the UK to be a Republic can always move to a Republic country there is plenty of them

Your comment was quite correct Gina. I was just trying to lighten today's sombre mood with a useless piece of trivia & we certainly do need cheering up today.

Walked down to the pub earlier with a Queen, and came home with a King. Mmmmm.
We raised a glass as required.
I wonder whether, in my dotage, people will ask (Kennedy assassination style) "Do you remember where you were....?"

Same as when Diana died. I woke up on the Sunday morning and was furious as I thought my nerd of a husband had tuned my radio into classic FM instead of Radio 1!! it was so sad. I cried for her while I was in the shower. I remember it poured with rain all day. The next day I bought some flowers and laid them on a makeshift memorial site in the city centre.

World leaders had a lot of respect for the Queen , Charles has had decades to prepare for the role so hopefully he's ready

A sad day for sure

A story I read about her sense of humour was she was out riding at Balmoral with a security officer when they came across an American couple out walking

The Americans asked if the castle was where the Queen lived , she replied, yes I think it is

Gee , have you even met her, she said no, pointed at the security officer , but he has
This anecdote (in more detail)

RIPQE2

The Queen served to the end of her days and beyond, the media have forgotten scaring the country with reporting economic issues and cost of living crisis. There will be £££ generated for the country both in the next few weeks and by raising the profile of the country and the ceremonies that will take place bringing in tourists with cash to spend. She has reunited the country in grief and reflection

As her sense of humour that has been widely recognised, I imagine her with a twinkle ' well that shut them up about gas bills'
