Greater Manchester clean air plan targets motor homes

Get to work? Like I did walk. Our nearest hospital is at least five possibly six miles from the nearest town. Our town has a raised roadway two stories up for deliveries maintenance etc. Go on keep finding reasons why pedestrian towns don’t work.
I don't need to , it's never going to happen

I think motor homes in Manchester are very few. This cost will not reduce deliveries or the pollution they cause. Of course this cannot be stopped only by refusing any retail in towns. To me this looks more like money grabbing, and before anyone starts I agree we need cleaner air just not sure this approach will solve the problem

I don't think my father with complex dementia would be able to either walk or cycle :( Specialist hospitals do tend to be in city centres. Our local hospital is over 20 miles away but is a small rural hospital and all major cases go to Edinburgh - about 50 miles away depending on which of the hospitals you need - or Newcastle or London or Bristol etc all depending on which specialist you need.

Public transport is also not an option for Dad and wheelchair adapted taxis are few and far between. We've been stranded a few times after ordering a wheelchair accessible taxi and having a standard vehicle turn up - one of the many reasons I bought the Peugeot Partner Teepee - which does not comply now of course.
Sorry my cycle comment was aimed at Glen2926 not yourself. Glen was stating public transport for 1.1/4 miles was 3 buses which is mad why not consider cycling to work. As a young copper I cycled 3.5 miles to and from work every shift for 3 years before I became an advanced driver and Firearms specialis, then it was daft cars everywhere 😆

I did answer you, it’s not worth cycling under about 5 miles. For that short a distance I just walked to and from work. Better for fitness.
When I cycled a lot training for our ride from our fire station to Sarajevo we were cycling between 70 and 100 miles a day. So cycling anything less than 5 miles didn’t help me get any fitter. Walking didn’t take very long as I walked as fast as possible. 12 minute miles walking are not bad for fitness.
As I said less than 5 miles it wasn’t worth getting changed in cycling gear or getting the bike out.
I don’t have a pushbike now. I stopped cycling when it became so popular and many of the new converts were not very good at obeying the rules. So I didn’t want to be associated with them. I went back to motorcycling.

Why is that clean air zone government website showing my Burstner as a Heavy Good Vehicle (and chargeable) when its tax is PLG?!
Cant check my log book because their wonderfully efficient sub dept known as the DVLA havent sent the new log book out yet (over 2 months after Ive bought the MH).

Check online, if the Revenue weight exceeds 3500kg then it will be PHGV not PLG.

yeah i realised after id written it (and checked some paperwork), but it wouldnt let me edit it again to say PHGV.
Im trying to find a contact for Fiat so i can check its CAZ rating from the engine number (but Fiat dont like to be contacted by the look of their UK website!)

I have them. But I never need to drive my motorhome in greater manchester.
Enjoy sitting in the queues on the M60/M62 motorways if you need to go east west across the country then. You won't be able to nip off for a pitstop without being charged.

if you register it online you get the V5C in under a week as it's automated , post takes months because covid

The last couple of vehicles I've bought I've asked the seller if I can register it on my phone in front of them rather than risk them saying they'll do it then putting it in the post

Everyone knows northerners do not go to Eton or shop at Waitrose, of course they cannot possibly own motorhomes.

For us to go to the Lake District or peak district where we walk, cycle or use public transport, with our grandchildren and dog. Taking our motorhome out will cost £120 for the weekend.
How do you work that out , it's £10 a day under 3.5t & £10 a day over 3.5t once the discount is applied

just checked mine £60 / day, what discount?

Motorway service stations will charge even more for fuel as you will be charged £10 for nipping of to get cheaper supermarket fuel. So indirectly it affects those passing through.

I used to visit a chip shop in Standish just off J27 on the M6 , it seems utterly ludicrous I won't be able to go there in my van or motorhome , if I do it'll be the most expensive fish & chips in the country
It's a very popular chip shop and I'm sure it'll cost them money

Over the coming years it is going to get harder and harder to drive round in anything with less than a Euro VI rating.
This is one of the reasons why we spent another £10k on getting an EU6 new MoHo rather than buying second hand back in 2018.
