Sithhole? Isn't that something from starwarsinsert "ith"
Is that the GB government or the UK one?Don’t hate the govt. Just don‘t trust, or believe them.
I’m not buying anymore plates mine happens to have an EU/GB on them and I have from the old days a magnetic GB sticker.Country identifier initials are ruled by the Geneva Convention of Road Traffic 1949 and The Vienna Convention 1968. The codes are allocated by The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, not our government. UK government can decide what we put on our UK number plate, but the rest of the world will require a separate GB sticker as well when we visit their country.
Not sure if this story has been posted, but according to the Daily Express, the Government is changing the country identifier rules again and in future all British registered vehicles going abroad will need to display a 'UK' on the number plate (or separate sticker?) instead of GB.
"By the end of the year, all Britons must show these letters somewhere on their vehicle before leaving the country."
"The new rules on vehicle signs will come into place on September 28, marking the end of the summer holiday season."
"If Britons fail to display the letters UK somewhere on their vehicle when abroad after the end of September, they will be fined."
Government bans iconic GB sticker and urges Britons to buy UK
RULES on British numberplates are set to change for the second time in nine months. Britons will no longer be able to use a GB sticker on their car when abroad but must opt for a UK version instead.www.express.co.uk
GB stickers and number plates
You do not need a GB sticker if your number plate includes the GB identifier on its own or with the Union flag (also known as the Union Jack).
You do not need to display a GB sticker to drive in Ireland.
You must display a GB sticker clearly on the rear of your vehicle if your number plate has any of the following:
If you’re in Spain, Cyprus or Malta, you must display a GB sticker no matter what is on your number plate.
- a Euro symbol
- a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales
- numbers and letters only – no flag or identifier

The actual country I'm from is England why does it have to be UK or GB.?
Apparently, according to the article, due for implementation on 28 September - so no change to the Govt website yet.I will wait until the UK Gov advice changes:
"But the penalty will depend on the law of the country concerned."Just a thought some will have gone out and purchased GB stickers to cover up the EU badge on their plate some will have purchased new plates with GB on. Does the government plan on compensating these individuals who fell in to line with the new government directive ? As it seems if we do not then the paper says “If Britons fail to display the letters UK somewhere on their vehicle when abroad after the end of September, they will be fined.”
Yes, this is current guidance, but the government passed new legislation last week to change the GB sticker to UK, apparently to include Northern Ireland, from September.Displaying number plates
How to display number or licence plates, get plates made up, replace lost, damaged or stolen plates, and the national letters, flags and symbols you can display.www.gov.uk
The AA is pissed off because they have 50,000 GB stickers in stock which will be obsolete! I think they are making representations to rethink it.
What annoys me is eurotunnel having nothing except "UK" on it for nationality. on the few occasions I have used them i always make a formal complaint & tick spanish for me & albanian for the wife. But, despite what others might wish, NI is part of the UK and should be included in our national indicator. I’m for it if it’s true.
Ialways think of Turkey when I see the nephews neighbours flag up.The red on that looks too bright. Usually more of a maroon?I’m not buying anymore plates mine happens to have an EU/GB on them and I have from the old days a magnetic GB sticker.
I should add here in Essex we have an amazing flag it’s not a pretentious coat of arms just some sea axe’s..... Think we should just declare independence go down the Exit route and use these on our car plates etc etc View attachment 513234
But it isn't a nationality ,it is somewhere you can live or be from & which is what I object to with eurotunnel. Now we are out of the EU our internationally recognised identity is the UK.
Though GB is recognised abroad and “translates easily” as Grande Bretagne, Grosse Britannen(?) whereas UK is Royaume Uni, etc.
Now we are out of the EU our internationally recognised identity is the UK. That's what should be on our plates to show we are a United Kingdom not a collection of three countries with another one tacked on as an after-thought. To me it strengthens NI's place within the UK and not as part of the EU still.
Bring it on!!
Do you have proof of these 2 claims?Yes, this is current guidance, but the government passed new legislation last week to change the GB sticker to UK, apparently to include Northern Ireland, from September.

I'll need to be getting a wider car if that's what's going on the sticker! However, I accept that if you look on the front of your passport, it says “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland “. Having said that, does it really need changing?
I think it’s a non story Express & Telegraph reporting but only limited infoDo you have proof of these 2 claims?
?????? Really? We managed with no great difficulty. Displaying GB though. Hope the sticky backing will peel off when we have to change itHi all, reading these threads, it's pointless as we can't go over to Europe anyway
Do you have a link to thisYes, this is current guidance, but the government passed new legislation last week to change the GB sticker to UK, apparently to include Northern Ireland, from September.

You should have got the cling film version the way things are chopping and changing now!?????? Really? We managed with no great difficulty. Displaying GB though. Hope the sticky backing will peel off when we have to change it
Not yet she hasn’t. Next sticker we will need is U.K. (less Scotland) Fine by me.
Ms Sturgeon IS First Minister of Scotland. That is a fact. How appallingly ignorant. Not yet she hasn’t. Next sticker we will need is U.K. (less Scotland) Fine by me.
It may be that the Government are throwing this up in the air to see how it lands. Not shooting you but there is no other info available even from gov.uk
You'll be wanting you're own National Anthem soon as well!I've put cover stickers showing the St George's Flag with ENG over my number plates and am looking for a GB adhesive one with a St George's flag on it. Not bought yet so I'll search for similar with UK on it
