Getting back to Europe

I think it is worthy of note that as from Thursday Ireland is putting more countries on their “Red List” including France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Italy, and that includes countries where just connecting flights were taken. Ok, I may hear you say you have no intention of going to Ireland but don’t you think that although Boris surely has a haircut to prioritise on Monday he maybe takng some notes ?!?

I think the 90 day rule and COVID has made us all think differently about the continent this year. Personally we’re not planning to leave the UK in 2021. Good luck to those who are.

Throw "all the aires" in the bin and get camper contact ? Up to date info with reviews. Some of my very favourite places are aires.
Absolutely although l prefer S4S we like nothing more than meandering on the backroads moving Aire to Aire every day or so often only moving at a snails pace 10/15 km and so often we come across people we saw a few days back, therefore, many are doing the same.

Everyone is different. We only use the Aires in France as overnight stops. We prefer a campsite for anything else, as we like to get our tables and chairs out and BBQ.

I've done the same on many aires.

Why would you have to pay for a campsite to do that

Yeah pretty much as we do, but even if we are allowed to go how long will it be before France is back to normal?

Probably because 'aire' rules usually don't allow you to put your chattels out, although of course people do.

You’re having a laugh, even including the ferry fare it’s cheaper going to Spain than paying UK campsite prices. Besides that I’m guaranteed better weather. 😹😹
You obviously don't know me if you think I have a problem with simple mathematics , unlike you I sleep in an A class not an A frame. :giggler:
Please could you organise tickets / bookings for me in that case oh an some finance would be useful:rolleyes:

Well yes and no ... I was watching a recorded programme about Chernobyl and stopped to ring my Mum before it got too late, looking at the clock it was 10.46 pm ... by the time I finished chatting to here I looked at the clock again and realised that it still showed 10.46 pm! If I'd been watching live TV I'd have realised it had stopped ... of course I couldn't just go to sleep without checking you lot on here weren't killing each other first otherwise I'd have nightmares worrying about you all!
A woman who makes a mountain out of a molehill and always gets the last word in. 🥴

I’m not a charity for people that didn’t make the effort to earn a crust. 😎

We won’t be going abroad this year, it’s not worth the risk. What I’m most sad about though is that at this rate Claire will have completed her first overseas posting and we won’t have visited her once which is hard to believe. She went to Bangladesh on the 5th Jan 2020 and it was for 2 years and she’s extended it until June 2022 so there’s a small chance I suppose. We’ve had all our jabs, we were even packed to go when this all started, for some we’ll need boosters if we can go! It’s trivial in the greater scheme of things of course but we are a very close family and she so wanted to show us this part of her life.

I do realise it’s not Europe but we’re not going there either!

You're not supposed to put out your tables and chairs and your BBQ. I know some people do but we prefer to relax on a campsite. We also choose campsites that have a nice pool. For us, part of being away is a daily swim. For us, being away isn't about avoiding paying for a campsite. It's about relaxing and doing what suits us.

Who’s talking about campsites 😂

I've been on lots of aires where 'camping behaviour' is not only allowed but actually encouraged with built in bar-b-q's, picnic benches etc, one even had a swimming pool, another had access to a river where people swam..

It's all about research, use the apps, read the reviews..

Yes we know. As I said, we do what suits us and I'm very happy that other people do what suits them.

Next year for us, to much uncertainty to make any plans to go abroad only to end up disappointed.

That pretty much sums it up ... we don't want to be on 'tenterhooks' wondering if we'll have to change plans and then sort something else out, rather have it sorted now for the UK then if we get the opportunity to go abroad we can choose to change to that instead if we want to.

We use a mixture or aires and campsites also like a regular swim have found plenty of pools and thermals resorts with aires attached in Germany so best of both worlds.

Absolutely, we managed a week just to fit Julie's birthday in at gravelines, and hope to get over this year, it's ok for 40 and 50 something's to say next year but when you havnt got many left it's a different thing all together.

We don’t go to Germany. We prefer Spain for the coast, weather and food. There are some Aires in Spain we like but they aren’t free.

We’re not interested in travelling for a holiday either Carolyn.

One of ours sons hasn’t worked or lived in the UK for about 8 years now. Plenty of travel to see them in the various places they’ve lived before, but not now of course.

He’s due to move this September, from The Netherlands all the way to Belgium.;)

And us, i am so glad we had a couple of months last summer in France and Spain, I honestly don’t think I could have coped otherwise. I truly believe we will get away this summer again , and it is so much safer there because of the vast open spaces, so overcrowded in the Uk , I live 2 miles from Abersoch and tomorrow this place will be heaving.

It 21 years since my 50 chaser. ::bigsmile:

No you are obviously having a laugh or have a problem with simple mathmatics

Three weeks in France, (and I know that right now, its off the menu but my comment stands) in an area I want to go, pitched where I want to be (rather than where I MUST pitch in the UK) and including the ferry, I'm saving money.

Oh that's a shame as I reckon the ferry, the fuel and the tolls are circa £1200
Santander-Alicante = <£90
Southampton- Oban=>£120
Approx same distance and the roads are empty.
That's one way.
There's no need for Tolls. You can see that the fuel is cheaper.
The weather is better. The food is cheaper and more plentiful and better variety.
The sites (should you wish to use them) are not as expensive and then you have Area's

The price of the ferry, just booked is just over £800 and that includes a cabin both ways.
