Getting back to Europe

The word science could well be replaced with the guess because that’s what it amounts to in the main, number crunching. This thread is “Getting back to Europe” the reason being that so many on this Forum simply love motorhoming in the EU the Motorhome experience in the EU is indisputably better than the UK.
Indisputably? Not in my experience , I ve had amazing MH times in both locales , a few dusty Aires on the edge of some dodgy French town doesn’t do it for me I’m afraid , Grasse for example was like South Central LA !

Just put our BF summer crossing back to January 2022 Portsmouth - Caen for drive down to Spain and saved some cash on the shorter crossing. Deposit on Ile de Re holiday returned by campsite owner, we were definitely not the first to cancel!

No way will we be taking an EU holiday in 2021, why risk all that we gave up in lockdown for a few weeks of warmer holiday.
Yes, we'll miss the Aires and superior, cheaper campsites and relaxed lefestyle but really do you need to go until it's fully recognised as COVID safe and all the vindictive BREXIT nonsense from Macron and chums has died down???

As with all travelling in a Pandemic, flexibilty will be key. There will always be a risk to travel abroad at the moment.
It looks like it will also cost a few quid for tests, even if you have had the Covid jabs.
The traffic light system will indicate what is required for travel to different countries, but for the majority of Motorhomers, France will be the key! If France is amber, people will have to quarantine on return to UK.
We won't know what countries will be on different traffic light systems until May. Those countries could change as they have done for the last 15 months.

The traffic light system will grade foreign destinations as being:
  • Green: Passengers will not need to quarantine on return, but must take a pre-departure test, as well as a PCR test on return to the UK
  • Amber: Travellers will need to quarantine for 10 days, as well as taking a pre-departure test and two PCR tests
  • Red: Passengers will have to pay for a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, as well as a pre-departure test and two PCR tests
Last time France was q10, you were allowed to transit as long as no-one left or joined the vehicle.

Throw "all the aires" in the bin and get camper contact ? Up to date info with reviews. Some of my very favourite places are aires.

Sorry If you are going to wait that long there is no point having a passport
Covid is just something else we need to learn to live with
The French bickered about the UK all the time we were in the EU they are not going to change

I have pretty much written off foreign travel this Summer.

I am hoping for an Autumn getaway to somewhere like Cyprus ( by air) like we did last year.

My brother is convinced he is going to Spain in July but I really can’t see it.

Me too (y) I love a holiday abroad but every time I think there is a Chinese of light, something else crops up . I don't want the hassle!
I actually think Spain will open up for us sooner than some, so your brother might be right:smiley:
I noticed Jet2 have pushed back all their flights and holidays until June 24th.

Fingers crossed for a trip over in September, think it's unlikely but we live in hope. Like others on here really really miss our European trips.

I'm going home to Morbihan in July, I was due earlier but C19 got in the way, now I'm hanging around for a couple of Motorsport events. Racing Thruxton May Bank holiday, Donnington later in May, with a Classic Car rally in July. Hence I'm delayed , gawd knows what the garden will be like, I'll need a chainsaw to find the garage.

I hope he is right. I love Spain and can’t wait to go back(y)

You’re having a laugh, even including the ferry fare it’s cheaper going to Spain than paying UK campsite prices. Besides that I’m guaranteed better weather. 😹😹
No you are obviously having a laugh or have a problem with simple mathmatics

Now then children, stop throwing your toys out of your prams and play nicely! :*

Is it not past your bedtime ?
Well yes and no ... I was watching a recorded programme about Chernobyl and stopped to ring my Mum before it got too late, looking at the clock it was 10.46 pm ... by the time I finished chatting to here I looked at the clock again and realised that it still showed 10.46 pm! If I'd been watching live TV I'd have realised it had stopped ... of course I couldn't just go to sleep without checking you lot on here weren't killing each other first otherwise I'd have nightmares worrying about you all!

France is still subject to curfews at the moment and very few facilties open according to our transport teams
