Getting back to Europe

I suppose one of the unknown things is what other countries will do, remember the MHers abroad that got told to leave sites and return home? I'm not saying it could happen but if some of these countries don't get a grip on the infection rates, whether or not we perceive it to be safer will be irrelevant, if they want foreign MHs out they'd do it regardless.

Are there any lovely places in France where you get peace and Q (cant type the whole word) which make the Q places in UK appear unbelievably busy ?

You must have read the threads from last year, and to the best of my belief everybody who went said it was wonderful and safe, safer than here.

Is everybody telling porkies or is there a remote possibility that it is in fact safer in Europe, for motorhomers, than here when infection rates are near equitable because of the lifestyle choices we make ?

Try finding the UK resident who went abroad in a motorhome in the past 14 months who said they didnt feel safe and/or the person who caught the lurgy. I will be prepared to read their experiences.

Keep safe whatever you decide, but given the opportunity of a pleasant stop by a river/lake/mountain in the middle of nowhere where I have more chance of being mauled by a pack of wolves than catching CV I know what I will be doing.
Erm, well no to your first question. You can't get any quieter than our favourite CL site on a farm. It's a huge farm, with lots of places to walk and you never see a soul! I can't see any way, that anywhere is Europe is any safer.

For us and many others who didn't go, last year, there were many things to consider. For example, we both have ongoing health conditions which make us more wary. For this reason, we require comprehensive travel insurance, which covered everything. We also have an elderly dog. We did wonder about getting to see a French vet, if France entered lockdown. The nature of the Pandemic meant that anything could change, so being us, we decided the isolation of our favourite farm site in the UK was better for suited for our needs.

We have friends who did go. They got moved on from where they were staying in Spain, by the police, who were closing campsites. They said in the end the stress wasn't worth the trip for them.

As I've said, we have the Dover to Calais ferry booked for the end of August. If we can go and we feel it's right for us, then we will go.

Everyone must do what's best for them.

CL’s & CS’s are only allowed 5 units so yes you can find a quiet place IF you are LUCKY enough to be 1 of the 5. Finding a vacancy will be the biggest problem.

Can you drive for an hour, not see a singular vehicle, and end up here, for a couple of hours where there is nobody, and this was when there wasnt a pandemic ?

We did see some traffic at this one, but again, all by ourselves for a couple of hours

Or this one where the road is just about passable for a car and we have been there twice and never even seen evidence of someone having used the footpath.

A perfect example of why we shouldn't be judgemental of peoples choices.

For some, their circumstances will dictate their choices, for others it may be their state of mind, or how they assess risk, or how much 'hassle' they are willing to endure to go abroad - or try and find campsites in the UK.

As for us, if we are allowed to go across the Channel then we have to assume that our government adjudges it safe (subject to any measures they impose on our return) and if WE decide that WE feel it is safe, then we'll be off.

We would never berate another motorhomer or criticise their choice if they decide to stay in the UK, and therefore hope that everyone else respects our decisions. We all have different needs, likes and dislikes.

Live and let live.

All lovely, there's no denying it. Our farm holiday doesn't involve much driving. We drive there, nice and Covid safe in our motorhome, and then stay at the isolated farm site.

Should we not be allowed to go away, and your place is that Q, I may be requesting details !

I'd love to tell you but the lady who runs it, chooses to only take regulars these days.

We enjoy Balena Alegre because of the large secluded pitches and proximity to spacious beach. And also due to its proximity to Sant Marti and Empurie.
Few other sites nearby but pitches are a bit tight and lack privacy.
We used to be regulars at the earlier Balena Alegra site at Castadefells but that was starting 60 yrs ago!

I'm pleased we don't all like the same places to camp; there'd not be enough room for us all and we wouldn't like it if we all stayed at the same places.

I agree - each to their own - but there's been a lot of posts on here berating people for stating their preference to go onto mainland Europe.

A beach in France August 2020 absolutely wonderful
And this is the point, a quiet beach in a beautiful spot with lovely weather is so much easier to get in France/Spain etc. I bet you could stop pretty close as well?

Whereas trying to find somewhere like this in UK that you re legally allowed to stop overnight is incredibly difficult, and even worse if the weather is nice.

The way the numties are handling there vaccination programme I doubt we'll be going over the water for a while yet.
We will not go this year, because the worry of the total mess the brussels mob have made of the vaccine roll out in the eu.
Hopefully by 2022 it will be safe again.

Got COVID in Mid February 2020 two days after coming back from two weeks in Tenerife. 8.5 weeks in hospital 7.5 in ICU and still with ongoing problems. We have decided to cancel our two one month trips to France for 2021 as not sure what COVID situation is or even when it will get better. Friends daughter over there took a day ringing around for a COVID tests and finally offered one 5 hours drive away one way!
We are looking forward to going in 2022 health permitting.

Last year‘s 6-week tour of Europe postponed to this year! This year’s 6-week tour (carbon copy of last year) due to start 31st May - Tunnel booked, sites booked etc etc - however not very hopeful as France will continue to be a problem and Macron is an imbecile!!!! Problem of course is all uk campsites are fully booked or vacancies in places we don’t want to go. It’s a mess! Have spent HOURS trying to find places to book as turning up on the off-chance will be a waste of time. Mind you - if Europe becomes ”Open”, then there will be thousands of UK sites with loads of vacancies!

I just want to get over to our house in Spain to prepare it for rentals.

not keen on the UK Really
Don't own a house in Spain so haven't studied the rules but I thought the Stanley Johnson clause was inserted to allow second home owners to do exactly what you want to do.

You may well be allowed out of the UK under that rule, but you won’t be allowed into Spain using it.

Seeing as we have the same MH I wonder if we could pretend to be you  :giggle:

I hole heartedly concur, If its right for you do it. Here I,am half way through the 4th month and trips in motorhome and
by plane are being moved for the second time. With shut downs of hotels and camp sites different in different countries, and tourist restrictions in place in some far off destinations (no entry), Its getting very congested, The nice part is I dont have to pay anymore money, especially since everything has gone up since early 2020. Here is the result of two years reshuffling.
Dec2021-Jan. 2022 Malaysia (Plane), Jan 2022 to March 2022 Canaries (motorhome) March 2022-April2022 Grenada (plane)
April 2022-june2022 (Motorhome) June 2022 to Sept 2022 Turkey (Plane)... Then I will need a holiday !!

Have booked mid June to Hook van Holland, only driving through Holland then to Germany. Have booked through CAMC, they have a good service and you can change the booking and even cancel it with a little penalty. Don't think Spain will be an option this coming winter.

Or into any Schengen country, at the moment as far as I can see.
If you have a holiday home in Iceland. maybe!

Another Thought !! How about this from my drive this morning, I have to say sights like this have made lockdown very pleasurable. ish !
The Black hills Malvern.
