Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

Still not cancelled our ferry to Rotterdam on the 4th I wonder if they’ll take the Netherlands off the list before then .
Youve seen my recent predictions !!!!

I think there is an off chance for 2 nd week in September. Just seen Belgiums figures for tomorrows 14 day figures and they are holding steady, no great drop.
But Netherlands have nearly twice the population of Belgium and similarish figures. I can see them dropping into the 30s soon and if they continue then its possible but i wouldnt expect HMG to knee jerk a reopening.

Its the journey back that matters though (to most of us)

I doubt things will change before my departure date so wouldn’t chance going Incase it didn’t come off while away, will leave it until next Tuesday then cancel.

While i am here, i have jsut updated the map with the 40 most beautiful towns/villages in Germany according to some random website.
They are in a different layer entitled "40 beautiful villages" so you need to have that ticked on the left hand side to see them and probably untick the routes that you dont need to see all the time. They are in red with a picture of a house as the icon

I added 5 Italian aires on as well last night
Germany / Italy on the cards for us - So thank you for all these informative updates and map info!

Looks like we are heading to Germany now, where do I find your map ?

Send me private message with your email address, just make sure you have a google account.

And note to everyone else the map is now too big to open in google (or it might be this computer) so you need to use the option to open it in "my maps" within google maps.

I was popping back through this thread looking for something and revisited this post with a set of eyes that are actually open.

We have stayed previously only i didnt realise. We thought we were in Belgium and maybe thats what threw me off and that i didnt leave a review.
It was unfortunate because it was a right old misty day and it is cycle heaven (we didnt cycle but will be this time)
The place was like a ghost town but it was latish september and really dour weather. Boats left to go on tours and plenty of overfill space if just overnighting if it were full.

Like this?

This is how it looked on the early morning we left.

Keeping fingers crossed for you. We still have tunnel booked for 10th October but low confidence we will get there ...

I did chuckle when I read your post! Germany is a massive country and you hoping a Funster can tell you how busy it is ? I look forward to the informed replies.

I don’t think it’s a stupid question.

There may be funsters that visit Germany each year at this time, and they may very well observe on the sites that they visit that there is more occupied pitches than they’ve seen in previous years.

I’m not asking for a census, or a count of vehicles and occupants, I’m asking for a “gut feel” from the guys on the ground.

I can tell you what it was like 2 months ago.

Emmendingham aire was empty but the town was heaving in comparison to what we were used to so we left and went back to France.
Forced to return to the Moselle we found it still emptier than last year but fill of locals going by their registration numbers, however wondering around Reil was very pleasant and in no danger whatsoever just like the aire which was full at weekends.
However we took the bike to Cochem but didnt really get off it and just turned round and came back as it was far too busy for our liking, and I m not overly fussed about things.
The bars and ice cream parlours and coffee shops took their civil covd responsibilities very seriously.
Zell was easily walk roundable and the Globus was pleasant enough

After a day or 2 we got used to having people in the same street as ourselves. I expect we will be more used to it now than we were in early July

Looking good so at the moment our plans are still GO for tomorrow, Germany still less than UK so unless Mrs Merkel bans us we should be good to go tomorrow. May drop into Italy for some sun but only have 17 days this year so maybe not time...

Any updated info on Switzerland as better half would need to go to Edinburgh on return and I believe it's on their list for Q14. No problems driving right thru but would be a shame.

Tonight is the night for Switzerland by HMG. Its not even a secret ! News expected between 1700 hrs and 2300 hrs for something like 0400 hrs Saturday. (guesswork but we will have to wait til the announcement)

Have been following this thread with great interest as we are off to Germany soon. Sorry if already covered but do we know what Germany's attitude is to anyone stopping in France en route? Does it impose any quarantine rules on visitors from there?

In short NO. (at time of writing) and not very likely from Germanys aspect.

But everything is fluid and no guarantees. When the pandemic was in April and May there were border closures to 15th June but strict measures at Alsace crossing points

Just crossed from Belgium to Germany south of Aachen.
straight through no problem , stopped at first services for fuel do straight run through from tunnel. Approx 4 hours.
Photos, we need photos, if you cant provide photos take a video and just send one frame and call it a photo.

Have fun, 24 hoursish behind you.

Ha ha can’t wait for those blue skies 😂
Best clip the dogs again or they will fry 🐶🐶

Thanks everyone for info so far. We’re booked on the Pont-Aven on Wednesday bound for Roscoff, route selected as we’re getting work done at VanBitz. France, then Germany for 6 weeks or so, but happy to change plans in order to avoid Covid and/or follow the sun.

I'm just starting the packing. 1500hrs tunnel tomorrow. Hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday.
I m one cup of coffee and a shower away from leaving, to do a 12 hour night shift, with wife in the van in the car park, for an 0900 tunnel. Might be able to cancel 4 days leave so only planning on 20 days now. Should enable me to pick and choose (if possible) a non rushed Xmas market run.

We have the markets planned too but not sure they will go ahead this year or if they do how safe it will be amongst all the people but thats the great thing about a MH the flexibility to plan last minute and make changes on the fly:giggle:. Have a great holiday may see you in Reil next week on the rally....

Made it to rheincamping
Siebengebirgsblick.
That’s a mouthful. !
The enthusiasm of the staff when we arrived was overwhelming !!
They charged €29 for me and the driver ( Steve 😀) and zwei hunds.
The showers are oldish portakabins which have seen better days and after getting my kit off realised you had to put
50c in for hot water.
Tried attracting husbands attention by opening the door and shouting , but to no avail. So a cold shower it was.
Now I remember why I avoid communal
Facilities 😩
Thought they would have been free for the cost of the stay.
On the positive side nice cycling track for miles.
Oh and ate our tea ( Lancashire for dinner )
Inside due to the million wasps.
Nice scenery though

suavecarve , we are now turning towards Italy as well , the weather will be better there and I’ve never taken a motorhome To Italy before , I would probably stay in the north, route would be , France to Italy then returning through Germany , hopefully not having to Q14 on return to the UK

Just wondering & won’t stop us going , Is Italy more expensive compared to germany
fill up before you get there, even Swiss Diesel is cheaper than Italian, but then again you would be going through Luxembourg 97 cents /litre
