Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

I ve had a thought process for those of us who would go away but need to avoid Q14.

We would need an alert as soon as it occurs to make earliest tunnel rebooking.

If you fall into that category and are prepared to give me your phone number i will give you my phone number but create a group on my phone that i can send a text out to saying "check news q14 NOW"

Then if someone sees it before me (or anyone else prepared to do it) they can contact me and i send out the group alert.

If interested give this post an informative and i ll work out if worth doing

We are considering a trip to the Italian Dolomites, tunnel 28th or 29th travelling through and spending a bit of time in Germany on the way out and back. I'm presuming that we can cut across Austria and avoid Q14, the same as France, if we don't stop and get out.
You are going to have to keep a close eye on things though
I know back in March getting from Austria to Germany was programmatic for a while

Austria's Corona border controls lead to 12-hour traffic jams at the Karawanken tunnel
11.25 a.m.: Due to stricter corona border controls in Austria, travelers were stuck in Slovenia for more than 12 hours at the weekend. In front of the Karawanken tunnel, according to the Slovenian media, there was a traffic jam of up to twelve kilometers in length on Sunday night. Many German holidaymakers on their return journey from Croatia were also affected. In order to defuse the situation, the authorities relaxed the controls on Sunday morning.
On Saturday, Austria tightened border controls due to the increasing number of corona infections in Croatia. As a result, not only travelers had to show a negative test or go into quarantine. All travelers who were in Croatia had to fill out a form and register.

The head of the state of Carinthia, Peter Kaiser, now saw an acute danger situation for the many people waiting and their children and ordered that transit travelers only be checked randomly. "The focus is on human welfare," he said. The waiting time was shortened, but was still several hours at the Karawanken tunnel and at the smaller border crossing at the Loiblpass, as reported by the ÖAMTC automobile club.

A German driver reported that he got stuck in a traffic jam around 5.30 p.m. on Saturday and did not cross the border until 7.30 a.m. on Sunday. Before returning from Croatia, he had found out about new travel formalities on the Internet. "We haven't seen that anywhere," he told the German press agency. There was no provision for those waiting, and at times the mood was aggressive, he and another traveler reported.

The new rule for transit traffic from risk areas was only issued by the Ministry of Health on Friday and was not communicated to the local authorities in advance, criticized a spokesman for the Carinthian state government. "That led to the chaos," he told the dpa.

as long as there is a safe country to travel through IE Germany we are happy to go to Europe, it doesn't matter to us if that changes once we are there , we can then justify the Q14 to the wife’s work , she has worked through the lockdown (voluntarily) delivering meals to the vulnerable While most in her work stayed at home
it is a great idea but not for us but thanks

I will, but whilst I am out there, if the news came through at 2230 hrs, I might not know about it until 0700 hrs and all the tunnel bookings may have disappeared. I would want to change my booking 2231 hrs !

Following closely in hope France can return to low levels by October ... I’m regretting postponing in July but there were too many complicating factors. Can’t do Q14 do numbers would need to be low.

We are still going on Friday. Can quarantine when we get back if needs be. Any recommendations for sites near lakes in Bavaria please and things to see on the way. Thanks 😊

Well it look like you can all ignore my calculations 2 or 3 posts above this one.

Todays figures

Germany 19.6 Higher by 0.1
UK 22.3 Higher by 0.8
France 59.8 Higher by 5.4
Italy 13.3 Higher by 1.2

My booking remains in place at this stage.
Todays figures.

Germany 20.0 Higher by 0.4
UK 22.2 Lower by 0.1
France 67.1 Higher by 7.3
Italy 14.5 Higher by 1.2

I m intrigued by netherlands who will make an appearance now as they are going downwards and may prove fruitful if they continue with that trend 45.9 Lower by 0.7

Wow. That Netherlands number is high,
To be fair it is only mediocre compared to some but their trend is lowering whereas others are rising. Possibility, a remote one, that we could use that as a safe country in a couple of weeks if Germany goes naughty. But they will need some vast improvement.

Same here, so long as Germany does not go on the naughty step on Thursday we will travel Friday and Mrs T will have to take a couple of weeks extra off to quarantine if it happens whilst away. Obviously if it is reported on Thursday that Germany is likely to go on the list but Boris does not announce it till midnight as they have in the past we will take a view at lunchtime and cancel tunnel go give the 24hrs notice so no penalty then stay in blighty or maybe think about Italy as an option as that could be done in a day to the tunnel.

The other thing is what if Germany puts us on the naughty step and wont let us in without 14 days quarantine:(

Just gone through Austrian border from DE few mins ago, all open on the way into Austria. The other way, from Austria into DE is few miles of tail backs. The Germans are out and filter all motorway traffic coming in. Very slow.

I think once we are in we are in.
The differential between UK and Germany is 3. Both would be cutting their own nose off at the moment.

All the time the UK is going up by a similar amount to Germany I think we are good. So if UK rises to 35 and Germany is 37, they would have a hard time justifying a Q14 (IMV)

What time Friday ?

What is the cut off for Q14 is it 20 cases per 100,000 or more than 20?

Does anyone have any idea how the threatened quarantine by the French on uk arrivals, would affect anyone planning to transit to Germany?

The guesswork is 30 for the actual "Thou is going on naughty step in 32 hours" announcement.
But this is guesswork was based upon when the UK was at 16.

It was 20 for 7 days as well, but that would almost now include the UK and they took Portugal off the list when they were 27!

As stated previously, it has to be difficult to put Germany on naughty list if they are 32 and we are 35.

I ve just read the newspaper reports and in short, nothing to worry about and should have no effect at all on anyone transiting their country

The threat is they will Q14 UK visitors to France as a reciprocal measure.

If this is the same reciprocal measure they had on June 15th then it is a voluntary one that you can decline if you so wish as there is no Law to enforce it.

Even if it is a different measure and they can, somehow enforce it, if you are going to Germany it has no effect as you are transiting and France cant Q14 you if youre in Germany.

This is fish and chip newspaper for tonight, not even waiting for it to be old news.

The border force dont even bother to ask if you will Q14 and the Gendarmes just laughed when they asked me about it in June

Some have said it is not showing respect to France by ignoring their request, I take the opinion that we are respecting their laws (as they arent allowed to make it law)

Meanwhile, the Bavarian city of Rosenheim on Monday reported more than 50 coronavirus cases per 100,000 people for seven days in a row, the limit that the German government has stipulated as necessitating regional lockdown measures. The news prompted city officials to tighten restrictions on indoor and outdoor gatherings.

Italy has come into our thinking more and more over the past 10 days or so, and I am aware of a couple of people giving it consideration as well. The figures are rising for Italy but even if they average 1,000 a day for a fortnight their infection rate per 100,000 is 23.3 and they have only gone over that figure twice (recently).

11 hours (according to google) to Calais from Como or Madesimo or Grand St Bernard pass (Switzerland return) or the Swiss/Austrian border (Austrian return)

So, yet again, we are reconsidering. Still off to Germany, but having the choice of running to the Italian Lakes (which should be very Q) or running back to Calais should Germany go on naughty list.

We have moved to 90% certain of going now and hoping for at least a fortnight of a 4 week holiday in Europe, but remaining fluid throughout.

One of their newer laws is you have to wear a mask 1800 hrs to 0600 hrs outdoors when SD is not possible. This, I believe, is aimed at Tourist/populated attractive areas.

I take it this in Germany? Or Italy

Italy, apologies for not making that clear.

If France brings in this tit for tat ruling regarding 14 day Q , will we still be able to transit through to Germany

We have to wait and see what they are actually going to do, but it is highly unlikely to have any effect on us unless it is really radical.

suavecarve , we are now turning towards Italy as well , the weather will be better there and I’ve never taken a motorhome To Italy before , I would probably stay in the north, route would be , France to Italy then returning through Germany , hopefully not having to Q14 on return to the UK

Just wondering & won’t stop us going , Is Italy more expensive compared to germany

I don't think you are allowed to overnight it France are you.

You can overnight in France as long as you dont socialise, is my view on it so going down France and stopping overnight at Seysell within France and crossing say montgenevre is legit.

In terms of cost for Italy. My experience is diesel is UK prices (2 euros a litre on the motorway 3 years ago !!!!) but the ice cream was cheap. I remember paying not too much for a meal in the sticks (30 euros for 3 of us 3 course) but we were with a local so may well have been discounted the tourist tax.

If the lakes are busy or you fancy a trip to the north east of italy, right on the slovenian/ austrian/ italian border is lago di fusine. A top 5 stop for us

If travelling back from northern italy, through germany you need to transit CH or AU both of whom have a vignette system for their motorways.

if youre under 3500 kgs its not too bad but if youre over 3500, come back CH and not AU unless you have loadsamoney and specifically want a Go Box for 80 eurosish which is only of use in AU (plus the money to use it)

CH is 25 swiss francs (£21) for 10 days use for 3500 +.
CH is 40 swiss francs for the year (£34) for 3500 -

Whats the best way into Italy via France? Saw a tunnel was €58 each way so maybe go via CH?
