Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

If this is for Travel Insurance, I would go through all the threads on here and making notes on the companies that will cover you for transit to a country deemed safe to travel in (germany) by HMG.
Then I would be recontacting Battleface asking them to reconsider their decision or a full refund as they have sold a policy that is not fit for the purpose of a holiday in a safe country because they are not prepared to allow cover for a 4 and a half hour journey twice.
I would point out that i was a member of a forum of motorhomers with an audience of over 60,000 (of their target customers) and we have a section for "poor service" and an insurance section.
I would name the companies and their contact details.
Then I would ask them how they would like to me to proceed with the cancellation or whether they could contact the CEO for a corporate decision.
I think for the £4.99 paid they may just say go ahead and cancel you should read the policy to make sure it is suitable for your needs before buying and TBH how many of us are going to buy a policy?

Doh

Didnt realise it was the fiver policy top up thing.
I would be changing my mind then and writing it off as a bad experience !!!

Note to self : Stop being a blithering idiot !

Yeah yeah yeah, I know i m bored so have learnt another skill on the computer.

I have now added routes. They may or may not be accurate routes but they start and finish at the right places, its just the route they follow (the middle bit)

They can be adjusted so if you are going on one of the routes, just adjust the map by dragging the route over to where it actually should be. At the moment it is an indicator as to where the road is.

They are :

Romantic Road
Alpinestrabbe (looks inaccurate to me)
Fairytale castle route
Volcano route

BTW the letter in German alphabet that looks like double ‘b’ ß is in fact the symbol for a double ‘s’

Thus your Alpinestrabbe becomes Alpinestrasse.

Forgive me being pedantic,I was a school teacher out in Germany in the late sixties.Albeit I was teaching maths in a British Forces School.

I love absolutely useless information that i am only ever going to use once possibly in my life again.

I dont take it as being pedantic, i accept it as being educated and thank you.

I have Campercontact, is it worth getting S4S As well ?
IMHO S4S is far superior but they complement each other in case some sites are not listed or for another review, its £5.99 for the app that gives you offline access or you can use the web version for free. All in English, good navigation options, miles superior mapping etc.

The Battleface policy will not cover you for your transit through France. I emailed them to ask about cover and their response was. The insurance cover would need to start and end in your home country therefore unless you are returning home in between France and Germany, the policy will need to cover both destinations.
If I crash in France how do they know I wasn’t going to go home same day?
I would be getting cover from someone else for Germany.

The map is coming on nicely and i have now added waterfalls in blue

Slightly off topic but we are thinking about a pair of ebikes, has anyone purchased them in Germany ? Are they cheaper than the UK ?
We have visited several shops but available stock is hard to find, and if you ask for a discount the sales guy looses all interest.

When i was looking, after being on the moselle where everyone has one, then Decathlon would have been my port of call. Globus had some but the choice was not great. We made the decision not to purchase out there as we didnt know what style we wanted and how much battery power which affects the cost. You will do very well to get a discount in those types of shops

I have immediately gone from a disliker of ebikes to a lover of them.

I was worried about crashing on my journey through France and Belgium but have now found I can get 1 day insurance from Battleface (not covering pre existing conditions) for £4.96. I do worry about things!
Your EHIC would cover you for emergency hospital treatment.

I’ve been watching a few YouTube videos of campsites on the lakes in Bavaria and pitch sizes did look a little on the small side.

Can anyone advise if that is the case or that they are no different from the average pitch found in France?

p.s. and if anyone has a recommendation of a campsite in Bavaria, preferably on a lake with some easy cycling nearby, then I’d be really grateful!

Campsite or aire full facility aire. If the latter There are 3 around Chiemsee if that is the area you are looking at.
I think the lake is about 40 kms round. We would definitely return there.
Do you have acsi ?
I could try sharing my acsi map with you. 7,000 acsi sites on same style map as the germany one.

Todays figures
Germany 17.9 Static
Austria 30.8 Higher by 3.7
UK 20.9 Lower by 0.1
France 46.3 Higher by 3.1
Croatia 41.7 Higher by 3.4 and likely to be the last time I update it.

For info, I dont know if i wrote this or not but on Monday, if i were in Croatia I would have changed my booking to return on Thursday (today). That decision was based upon what happened timewise to France after Spain's non notice. That was what i have been looking at to try to work out HMGs thinking as i really dont want to Q14 after a fortnight of a 4 week holiday (but i want to be away for as long as poss)
Todays figures.

Germany 16.5 Lower by 1.4 (I know yesterdays figures were supposed to the highest since April, I m just quoting)
Austria 33 Higher by 2.2 and now on naughty list.
UK 21.2 Higher by 0.3
France 51 Higher by 3.7

I think Italy might make an appearance on this list as a "take cover" country
Italy 11.5 (unsure of yesterday but did see them at 9. something earlier in the week.

Play time again for me.

I ve been playing with the buttons on here and noticed there is a calendar.

Never having used one on here before, I thought i would put up my leaving and coming home dates.

Should you wish to do the same, I have no idea whether you can or not, then obviously make a decision that it is public information.

As nobody knows where I live, there are people in the house, I have insurance which is not covid dependant and i have nothing of value in the house, I dont mind.

Anyone any idea about these all year round toboggan runs you can go on. Fancy scaring the s#it out myself.

They are great fun. Really addictive. We’ve done a few. It’s a great blast.

I ve done a few and have searched for them on google and found the square root of diddly squat for "summer luge".
I was going to create a colour on the map for them and started to youtube them but then i found Rick Steves and went off on a tangent.
If I get chance I will revisit and put some on there. I also thought of via ferratas but they are for a certain type of idiot and i m not sure there are many others and they are easy enough to find on google

Edit: Just read previous responses, it seems there are some other adrenalin idiots on here. I ll have another play shortly. If anybody puts some on before me, choose another colour and let everyone know in the thread what the colour is

Found one we have been on at Gutech. As Kraken points out they are rodelbahns, which should help in my search.

This is on the Gutech one doing 44.8 kph and they put the brakes on if you hit 45 kph.

I have added the Glutech one in GREEN

I cant add the video of Montgenevre which is just as well as there is some foul language involved

Thanks for the suggestions and I may add that area to the itinerary.

I’ve done some more searching and I’ve now booked a pitch for at Camping Park Gohren which looks a bit “touristy” but still a nice site with direct access to the Lake Constance / Bodensee.

Never been down that area so really looking forward to it 😀

Pity I won’t be able to travel across to Austria on a boat due to the restrictions, but so be it.

Konstance is high on our hit list.
We have decided the furthest we go is Garmish at the moment. Staying within 10 hours of Calais.
I have managed to miss Konstance somehow but I am aware of a beer garden aire on the north side somewhere.
I ll start doing some more research around there soon (probably tomorrow) as we would like to do a week around there just parking up and cycling on the etandem and stopping to get wet.
Hoping Switzerland is ok for Rhine falls

If anyone has some knowledge of aires and things around Konstance, dont be shy, whack them up for me.

I have added all the summer luges in green. Only took about 20 mins as i get used to this system.
