Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

Konstance is high on our hit list.
We have decided the furthest we go is Garmish at the moment. Staying within 10 hours of Calais.
I have managed to miss Konstance somehow but I am aware of a beer garden aire on the north side somewhere.
I ll start doing some more research around there soon (probably tomorrow) as we would like to do a week around there just parking up and cycling on the etandem and stopping to get wet.
Hoping Switzerland is ok for Rhine falls

If anyone has some knowledge of aires and things around Konstance, dont be shy, whack them up for me.

I have added all the summer luges in green. Only took about 20 mins as i get used to this system.
There is a campsite in Garmisch-Partenkirchen we have stayed at where your site fees include buses into town, (perhaps a mile) but also a tourist bus that takes you to a lake and some summer ski lifts. I can’t remember if the ski lifts were included in the deal, it’s a great town however with no shortage of beer drinking opportunities.

We stayed last September on Camping park Gohren am Bodensee. Direct access onto the beach . They have a stelplatz outside which is much cheaper , where we stayed.
It was about one hour flat cycle ride to Frierickshaven.

We’re driving from Calais towards Saarbrucken tomorrow, looking for a campsite on the France, Belgium, Luxembourg border, does anyone have any recommendations? Oh forgot to mention we have a dog with us.

You could try the Rurberg one that is nearing Aachen that I posted about earlier this week. Near Saarbrucken there are loads.

We found all our stops using Serchforsites App And thought it was excellent 👍🏻

Thanks, we were thinking of Ardenne, but on reflection Rurberg sounds a good option, done the drive to Brussels many times in a car, should be quieter on a weekend. Although as it’s Saturday tomorrow guess we need to get there early.

Agree about S4S seems to be a good app and you use it offline.

Thanks

I also have a map that has all the acsi sites.

Visually quite impressive, but i didnt create it. I can send that one as well if you want.

Its only useful for exactly what you are looking for. Zooming into an area and seeing what the campsite is. There are no links to the campsites so you sill need to cross reference them with another resource

Same score as last time, bung me a request.

For some reason it doesnt like North of Watford or south of spain.

Anyone any idea about these all year round toboggan runs you can go on. Fancy scaring the s#it out myself.
Forget all this summer toboggan nonsense and get yourself to Isgl near Innsbruck in Austria. For a few quid, you can do the real bobsleigh run. Truly bone shakingly awesome in every way. You’ll then know how utterly insane are the folk who do this on “tea trays” are. 😄

Coronavirus in Europe: dozens of Berlin schools report infections
Cases on rise across Europe with Spain alone registering nearly 70,000 in past fortnight

Coronavirus cases have been reported by at least 41 schools in Berlin, barely two weeks after the German capital’s 825 schools reopened.
Cases are rising across Europe, including in Spain, which registered 66,905 in the past two weeks, resulting in the continent’s highest 14-day infection rate and warnings over the risk of a new wave of deaths.
The disclosure by Berlin city education authorities that hundreds of students and teachers have had to quarantine has underlined once more how little is known about the risk of infection in school settings, despite the insistence of governments and experts, including in the UK, that reopening schools is safe given the right precautions.
The Berlin experience echoes that in some states in the US, including Georgia, and in Israel, which have recorded clusters tied to schools. According to reports in Berlin, all age groups have been affected, including in elementary schools, high schools and trade schools.
Berlin was one of the first places in Germany to reopen its schools after the summer holidays. Children are obliged to wear face coverings in the hallways, during breaks and when they enter the classroom, but they can take them off once they sit in their places and classes begin. Some critics say the measures in Berlin are too relaxed and b

Todays figures.

Germany 16.5 Lower by 1.4 (I know yesterdays figures were supposed to the highest since April, I m just quoting)
Austria 33 Higher by 2.2 and now on naughty list.
UK 21.2 Higher by 0.3
France 51 Higher by 3.7

I think Italy might make an appearance on this list as a "take cover" country
Italy 11.5 (unsure of yesterday but did see them at 9. something earlier in the week.
Todays figures

Germany 19.5 Higher by 3.0
UK 21.5 Higher by 0.3
France 54.4 Higher by 3.4
Italy 12.1 Higher by 0.6

We are considering a trip to the Italian Dolomites, tunnel 28th or 29th travelling through and spending a bit of time in Germany on the way out and back. I'm presuming that we can cut across Austria and avoid Q14, the same as France, if we don't stop and get out.

This thread has been very helpful. Thank you everyone.

You can, but i would check on Austrias rules for entry. cant see them stopping you transiting, so maybe worth having a booking for the night you transit.
Slovenia is 16.4 for info. No idea what it has been though seem to remember them couple of months ago being zero.

We have thought about Italy but its now getting to a 2 day journey without getting out, on the presumption Slovenia and Italy go on naughty list in how long ? 10 days ? fortnight ?

Still time to make a decisions for us but definitely starting to plan "Plan D" just in case

Rurberg stellplatz.

Easy to get too, small and tight (not terrible though), expensive (was 8€ now 15€). Flat ish (would have normally used ramps, but didn’t due to early depart). Extra cost for services. Loads of ehu points at 1€ per kw, very nice setting, plenty to do around area. Many cafe‘s, few restaurants, snack bar, swimming cycling, sunbathing etc.
BUT
Busy, very busy especially at weekends I would think. We got there at 11.30am and there were three spots. Some people left, and other turned up, and that was pretty much all day. Some Germans staying until 9pm before heading off, and this was on a Tuesday, rainy, not particularly hot day.
There are fuel stations 10mins, and 15mins away. Enroute to motorway we passed 4 or so bakers and probably 4

We considered Rurberg but instead opted for the campsite at Faulenbruch, Roetgen. Lovely site, big pitches, very clean, very quiet. Cost just a little more than the Rurberg stellpatz though showers and some facilities extra. It is nearer the border. Apparently Rurberg prices went up from 8€ to 15€ on the 14 August!
Very easy through Belgium and France, Tunnel quiet, straight on to next crossing.

At time of writing, if you were to go to France for a fortnight, then to Germany for a fortnight, you would not mention France on the return track and trace form.
You wouldn't have to mention France the time you first went through it but the form wants you to list your transit countries so that would have to include France with same date in entry and depart boxes. So for us that was Belgium and France. The form does not however ask whether you are transiting or whether you are getting out and doing things, which seems a bit of an omission.

Yes locals told us that price had only just gone up, but there had been a bit of a refurb and tidy up done before the price increase. We went for a stell as we were leaving at the latest of 7am which I think is too early for a campsite. I not sure why, but I think that’s ok on an aire or stell

We were in Switzerland this week, 50% of people did not wear masks.

in Germany, everyone wore masks.

Italy, same as Switzerland
Agree with Teemyob about Italy and Switzerland. Where we were in Germany everybody wore masks in shops but we saw hardly anyone wearing a mask in any other situation and social distancing didn't seem to be of great concern. Didn't use public transport so can't comment on that. Interesting that Sweden is saying masks can cause problems as people then feel 'safe' and don't bother with the distancing, etc. The other concern about masks is that the same mask could be worn for a week, two weeks, three weeks ... and no-one would know.

I ve just done a countback on the German stated figures for infections for the past 20 odd days and worked out how they are working out their infection rates. (which are three days behind the stated figures on WHO)
If i am correct their next 3 days figures will 22.2 22.75 23.0

The 2 days after today, their figures will have to take into account 14 day old figures of 412 and 385 (over the weekend) These need to be deducted from their running total and the new figures added,

Their figures will be lower this weekend but they need to be very close to those figures to keep their infection rate down to 23.

It would appear to me their infection rate is worked out 3 days after their figures are released.

If my guesswork is correct, Germany is looking at "naughty list" very shortly and this weekends figures will show up later tonight.

I will give it til Monday, see how accurate this forecast is, and if accurate and if this weekends figures are a lot higher than the 412 and 385 of a fortnight ago, I ll be cancelling my tunnel as can see Germany going by next weekend.

A footnote that this is my best guess and not a fact.

We have booked the Tunnel for the 1st September, like many others we have been following information from various sources to try and make an informed decision, but I’ve cleared my diary for Sept, and we are going to Germany. If the situation deteriorates we will isolate on our return.
We have cancelled or had to return home early from a number of trips in the last few years due to family health issues, the clock keeps on ticking.

Just hoping i am wrong, but I just dont think i am.

Good luck to everyone who is offski
