Just checked in to Eurotunnel, Calais.
Asked where we last stopped and she looked surprised when we said Aachen.

There is a campsite at Roetgen just inside Germany and close to the motorway network. About 4.5 hrs to Calais with a couple of short stops on motorway picnic sites. No contact with locals of course👍

Simple site about 10 mins walk to the town. Euro 21 with ehu.

Have arrived in Camping Hirzberg, Freiburg and its pissing down ! Lol think we have this for at least the next 48 hrs ! Yippee!

Grotesque isn’t it, still we had 24 days of sunshine before it turned so no complaints here. Picking up on a recommendation from Landy Andy earlier in this thread we are headed for a wein tasting tomorrow.

Its a corker.

Youre better off parking as soon as you get in on the left hand side. It was rammed up the top with enought space between vans to not even get the proverbial fat french lady between them unless you got an end one. Chairs and awning out if you stop at the bottom.

When we came through Eurotunnel yesterday morning, we weren't asked for our travel forms for scanning, nor if we had even filled them out. We were asked where we had last stopped, and when Rita said "Aachen", the chap thought she said Ardennes, yet he never batted an eyelid. :Eeek: I'm not overly confident in the UK Border Control TBH. :( We were swabbed by the French Customs
If I had know then what I know now, I would have stopped on that last Belgian Aire before crossing the border near Dunkerque, for the cheaper fuel and Autogas. ;)

We are home now after an overnighter at Canterbury. :) The shorts are redundant now, and the central heating is well and truly "ON". ;)

Thanks to suavecarve Jon for starting the thread and providing the "all important" daily figures for us all, and also to everyone else who took part and contributed. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We were there last week and it's a much better site and location than the Stellplatz on the other side of town. Have a walk up through the woods behind the site to the viewing tower - great views over Freiburg. I think there is a cable car up from the town as well.

Well you certainly didn't leave us any decent weather or stellplatz spaces, we come over on the 11:20 yesterday but didn't leave till 11:45 so quite possibly passed you under the channel, got to Aachen late after wind and much rain and found the Stellplatz full so we pitched up in front of the bins on the rough ground, might see if we have better luck on the way home and have a look in Aachen, you must have had an early start Jock as the traffic was chocka block the other way when we passed.

N+B stellplatz now but got one of the last places about lunch time.

Martin

Has anyone recently gone from France into Germany. What was your experience at the border?

Yes were booked in for 6 nights and all tucked up inside the M'home and making good use of the washing machine and drier. Will venture into town in a couple of days if I can get past the bier garden next door.

An FLT who doesn't carry his own washing machine, shame on you.

Given the rubbish weather, we decided to head for a town. Currently at the Stellplatz in Limburg -brand new and next to the campsite. Expensive at €4 incl 2kw electric, for firsy 5 hours, then 50c per additional hour. Easy walking distance of the lovely town, with its half-timbered buildings and cathedral, plus lots of cafés

and restaurants.
We plan on staying for two nights, before heading towards the Mosel en route to Aachen.

Daft question but I have noticed that there are quite a few of the German dealers who provide free stellplatz spaces for example just looking at the Burstner one at Baden Wuttenburg. can you use these even if you are not in a Burstner? I assume so but don’t want to be turfed off by angry Burstner owners 🤔

Quite night in outside Hannover at a marina - its lashing down!

A 'vegetarian' PRAWN bolog. and a proper one with oil floating on top! Jasper having a drumstick with spaghetti and a bit of sauce 😳.

Must put me in the good books to watch the match tomorrow 😉

Yes, we did Martin, fuelling up at the 24hr Esso filling station at Aachen at 05.00, then 1 Km back to the Autobahn. €1.10 for diesel. We hit the Brussels ring road at 06.30hrs, and it was mayhem then. :whatthe:

Safe travels, and you and Jen have a good time. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Not quite Lenny. We went via Lille and Mons on the way down, but others who came back that way warned us of roadworks and diversions, which weren't in place when we came through on 3rd September, hence the early start and the Brussels route home. :) It's not a route I'll use again in a hurry though. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I saw those roadworks, and satnag went quiet at the wrong point so we came Brussels as well.

An error i wont be making again for a few years

I think I'll risk the road works haven't forgotten the last time I went via Brussells made the M25 look like a race track.

You really have lost your FLT status on this trip, I hope I don't fair as bad.
Lenny I think it could be down to all the German Wines & Beers he's been consuming also heard he's been spotted buying up-market clothes from the centre asles of Aldi & Lidl instead of the Corby charity shops.

Nothing wrong with charity shops, a great [place to go in and get a free change of clothes every month or so ! As for my spending, I now have a serious drink problem and need to get on the wagon when we get home and start some serious saving for our next adventure to Greece, Covid 19 permitting.
