Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

You really have lost your FLT status on this trip, I hope I don't fair as bad.
You don't know the half of it Lenny, I'm spending cash at a unbelievable rate. Even Mena is giving me jip. Definitely relegated to the lower FLT leagues and behaving like a wealthy novice and I'm neather. Oh Please!! I've even ventured into mens fashion shops. Had a heart attack when I looked at the prices. Luckily I'm well known for being a snappy dresser and wearing good quality kek's ! One never knows when one is going to get hit by a bus and the last thing I want Mena being faced with is being told by a surgeon ' Well we managed to save his life Madam but you should have seen the state of his underwear ! Shocking ! Sadly they could not be saved.

Bet you haven't splashed out €500 on a decent pair of Lederhosen then?
You would look cool in them - maybe not.

We arrived in Rothenburg ODT yesterday, inevitably it was busy, Stellplatz 3 provided sanctuary @12 € per day. We had a pleasant afternoon in the town and decided to stay for a couple of days. Mrs Crazylegs has spotted the Christmas shop so baubles will need to be purchased, this is being part funded by moving to a campsite with all services charging €1.5 less than the car park.

One of them is us. We must be behind you! Tunnel at 14:50 tomorrow. Safe journey.
Roger
Sorry Roger20, I didn't realise a fellow Funster was behind us, as I would have spoken with you. 😕 We were in the 06 Flair. Did you see that tandem axled German registered MH taking up 4 x car spaces at the top of the lane. The road sweeper turned up and made him shift. 😂
He took your former spot.

We were scheduled for the Tunnel on Saturday, but with the drop in temperatures, we have brought it forward to 10.50 tomorrow morning. The shorts are redundant again this year. 😂
Have a safe journey home. 👍

There are four Christmas Shops John. 😂

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

Please stop saying things like that, we will have to repack the van. We are not leaving the UK until Sunday.

JockandRita I would have said hello if I'd realised as well but it was very late before I read your post. We are never quite sure about how some Brits feel about chatting because some are very much in the "I've come abroad to get away from Brits camp" - the answer has to be a Funster sticker but never thought to look at your van. Envious of your hydraulic legs after falling sideways all night 😂.

Took us just over 4 hours this morning from the P&R at Aachen including a stop for 20 minutes or so. Very strong headwinds from Brugges onwards and heavy rain near Calais - its been noticeably still for the last 3 weeks. Huge lorry queues which perhaps explains why we didn't get an earlier train.

The walk up the hill to RODT will keep you fit! We stayed there 2 years ago.

Have you looked at bier-reisen.de for breweries that have MoHo spaces whilst you celebrate the big 50? I'm sure you'll find a brewery somewhere up north! We recently had a magical stay at Landwehr Brewery just outside Rothenberg ADT. That's maybe a bit too far south though

English Setter doesn't have the pulling power of a hungry Lab. 🐕!! Plenty of energy and the sense to guide us back safely 😁

A sobering day, visited the Belsen memorial ex.pow and prisoner camp. 🥺🥺🥺

Certainly opens ones eyes to the atrocities of war and what man is prepared to do to man.

It is quite odd as there are none of the buildings left, large open areas with mounds showing the mass graves created by the Allies once they arrived, 10,000 bodies were waiting burial/cremation!

There is a no noise, birdsong etc and a very, very strong atmosphere as soon as you get out of the car.

Around the area there are information signs in German and English explaining the history and the layout of the camp.

I wonder - have we learnt anything, as hopefully this will never be repeated but we continue to read of atrocities in other continents.

Thank you for these photos.I lived in the Bergen - Hohne military camp in 1966-67 when I was teaching in the British Forces Secondary school. I met my late husband there. He was OC of the RMP detachment and I had to report my accident when I crashed my Austin Healey Sprite into a small tree on the central reservation of the Autobahn !
We had many visitors when we lived there and we took them to the Denkmal and it was always very thought provoking. Nearby Celle is a lovely town.We lived there when we were first married.

Okay Lenny, I'll not say any more on the subject, apart from a "top tip", ie, ditch the flip flops in favour of the wellies. 😂

Being a left hooker, it's bottom right of the screen. 😉

Envious of your hydraulic legs after falling sideways all night 😂.
Thanks. It's our first MH with them installed, and TBH, they are a godsend. 👍
I wouldn't normally use them when wilding, but it felt so safe there last night, and they only take seconds to retract.
We are here for a second night, heading off at 06.00hrs for an 11.20 crossing.

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

I was there for a short period in the RMP in the early ‘70s. I still take people there on motorbike tours. Creates an uneasy silence.

We spent a night at the train station stellplatz in Titisee.. parked for the day in the air just outside the town center at Freiburg and stopped the night at camping Freiburg. Today we went to Heidelberg .. great day and evening out it in town.. Aachen tomorrow and back on the tunnel on Saturday :(

UK 81.8 up by 5.3
Germany 27.3 up by 0.3
Italy 34.7 up by 0.3
I know I did the above figures earlier, but Denmark (99) Iceland (90.5) and Slovakia (43.7) have been added to the naughty list.

Interesting that Slovakia at half the rate of the UK have been added. Germany and Italy are not a million miles behind Slovakia.

A very early "heads up" moment

Germany’s Indian summer is definitely over !
Only made worse after looking in the wardrobe for a coat that isn’t there.

How can you tell, one course or four? I’d have had four, followed by coffee and brandy, maybe two. So my bill would be 120 euros, yours might be 64.
