Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

Well, it was clearly established when we arrived that we were staying at Wurzburg for two nights, so why is it then that when I was just about to crack a Weissbier to have with my lunch, that A.N. Other decides that we should upsticks and make our way to Rothenburg? 😲 Gordon Bennett.
I have to assume that as one doesn't do any of the driving, it's okay to change one's mind at any opportunity. 😏
I don't recognise the Stellplatz, and after speaking with a very nice lady German neighbour, it's because we are not at the one closest to the Zentrum, which she and her husband visited, but was apparently rammed. No problems, as we are only 15 x minutes walk from the centre. Apart from the continual use of the Stellplatz by Motoring Schools training motorcyclist pupils, (same at Ingleheim), which is ongoing, it is much quieter than the other Stellplatz. Again, €12 plus €1 for water, no EHU.
AND NO..... I didn't park here intentionally.

You can park outside the gates if late
Unsure if it is still only 50p a night because of CV at the moment. Normally 7 nicker
No it's back to £3.50 per 24 hours midnight to midnight, so £7 for an overnight.

You can also park in the pub carpark if you ask them nicely and have a drink or a meal.

During CV it was only 10 bob. Those are the normal prices which may or may not be being charged now.

Edit just re read it and they are the charges that are current. Ta

When we arrived at Canterbury, it was still ten bob, but when we validated our ticket the next day, we were charged the full £7.00............. but still cheap as chips. 👍

We'll be back there on Saturday, if we don't decide to hit the road north.

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

As the weather is changing, just a mention for a really good weather app - Ventusky. It's worked really well in Germany but looks good for Europe as a whole.

Many a holiday destination has been changed because of Ventusky. Cracking website. Works out when my travel days are !

Prior to leaving home, I was using an App powered by Dark Sky, then someone put me onto Weather & Radar, which I like even better, especially with it's weather map which you can reduce, to see what is coming in from the Atlantic, for example.

A few views from Rothenburg ODT.

It has been established (yet again) that we are staying for two nights here, but just to make sure this time, I will definitely be having a drop of the local 🍺 whilst out and about today. 😏

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

We love Lake Iseo, we went twice both times to the dame campsite with a pitch next to0 the lake. Stunning scenery.

Have just downloaded the App Ventusky as you suggested it looks really good thanks for the recommendation

Just settling into the Stellplatz at Dettelbach €7 p/n. Spent last night just 5 miles away at Sommerach, a lovely and very prosperous wine village in the Frankenland. Stellplatz there is brand new and clean but just a tarmac car park €10.
This is, allegedly one of the warmest and sunniest areas of Germany, and much busier than we had anticipated. There was plenty of space at Dettelbach when we arrived at 10.30 am.
We plan to stay here til the weekend, then start heading north and west.
As usual for Germany, there are plenty of good cycle routes along the river and through the vineyards between the villages.

Last couple of nights in Germany - it's been great and the weather very kind over the last 3 weeks or so. On the SP at Rurburg which despite €15 euros has been worth it for the ride round the lakes. Campsite in Aachen tomorrow hopefully so we can visit the city and then cross Belgium for the tunnel.
Some pictures from today's ride.

Moved SE of Hamburg to the marina at Lauenburg on the Elbe. Quick walk around the old town, lots of buildings dating from the 1600 and 1700s with info signs giving their history. Need my translator for tomorrow!

Another very warm one today, where are folks heading later in the week and next week as forecast doesn't look brilliant.

Was thinking of Italy - anyone been since/during lockdown as their covid rate now looks reasonable?

Hi we are currently in Germany heading towards Reil heading south. We have a problem with our electric step which we think is the running gear for dropping and raising. can anyone recommend a motorhome/caravan repair place in the area? I have found one on google in Saarland that seems good but wanted to check on here as well in case anyone can recommend. Thanks

Rurberg ride yesterday.

The bike is an immaculate BMW R75/5. I had one in 1975 and we took it on our first trip down to the south of France. Riding gear was pumps, thin non-waterproof nylon jackets and jeans! Worked well with the weather until we hit a sudden thunderstorm on the motorway. Pulled off into a service area with white streaks from our pumps running down the road😊. Those were the days.

Acting on advice of some neighbours we drove to Volkach which has Stellplatz on both sides of the river. The one closest to the town is very busy, the other has more space but suffers from noise from trucks accessing a aggregate plant. The town itself is quite delightful and very picturesque, definitely worth more than a day to visit. On day two we found ourselves a love seat in a bar, much fun ensued.

We have just arrived in Reil. Hi to everyone that may be here! 🍷😎

Now in another amazing Bavairian town, Nordlingen. Our wedding anniversary tomorrow so will splash the cash which I have done a plenty on this trip already. We're about to have mega ice cream whilst sitting on the town square. Pictures later.

It turns out that the people I had a drunken conversation with last night work for ADAC. Despite me berating their company that will not offer us breakdown insurance anymore they still came across with gifts of maps and routes. And there was Mrs Crazylegs very concerned that I might have been less than polite in my inebriated state. Nice people.

I haven’t kept the pace with this thread lately, not sure anyone filled in with this info: I have entered Austria this morning and been greeted with forms to fill in, declaring where I will quarantine for the 10 days, or, self declaration that I will transit and exit without stoping, in the same day. In transit service stations, you are allowed to refuel, use toilets and food shop. No mixing.
We are in Deuchland now and are random stops at the border with Covid testing stations. We have been waved in.
