Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

We're on the tunnel on Sunday evening again.
Having looked at the map we've decide to head to east Germany. Not been that direction for a few years and there still some fabulously untouched areas. We're heading initially to Dresden, has anybody been in the East recently - any recommendations of place not to be missed?

Well bugger me sideways, every Morello has heard Mena and I are here or they all need repairs or maintenance. I thought the Empire model was a big version but now think the Palace is even bigger. Bit of a twats club if you ask me.

Hope I end up being a Tw*t then or according to my workmates an even bigger Twa*t

We have arrived our first stop ever in Germany we are having one night here at campingpark Zum Jone Bur then We may try the stellplatz just down the road in Monschau or try and get onto the other campsite there
There is a map on the back of the site map with a pleasant walk marked on. Something like route 62? We quite enjoyed it as it is mostly in the forest out of the heat.
Took us 3hrs50 with no stopping, straight through to the tunnel. Went via Lille to avoid Brussels.
Have a great holiday all.

Not sure what happened with those pics and I can’t find the edit button 🙈

fprgott to mention WiFi here is €1per day and good enough to stream 👍

I flicked the pics upwards quickly on my phone and if you do it fast enough, your post turns into a movie 😜

In an earlier post I commented that I had not seen another Brit.

Well we are working our way back from Lake Constance and still not seen any.

We used a Vet in Wassberg the other day (for Benjie’s Pet Passport) and he mentioned that I was the first Brit he had seen all year.

Heading for Monschau now for a few days. Any top tips of things to see?

Let me know how full it is - Bacharach tonight and was thinking of Monschau on Thursday night for either one or two nights. Back in the Tunnel midday Saturday

Yes Midday for us on Sat, hopefully via Morelo factory if I get a reply from them, we’ve decided to stay another night here as the swimming, paddle boarding in this heat is just too tempting

Most of the Morello's have left this morning so no doubt taking advantage of the free services, or as I origanly suspected heard we were here and wanted to see my Funster famous portable step! We explored a few models in the showroom yesterday and the German build quality speaks for itself with the electrical side looking like it has been done by experts. These are exceptional motorhomes with prices to match and loafs of them owned by Hermans. There is, if anyone has a few Bob to spare a Home edition up for sale in the showroom for €160,000. The biggest model is not the Palace but the Grand Empire. The Palace is mega and you could sneak a whole migrant camp through customs undetected in one trip. With the Grand Empire you can get the lot through in one trip. Of to Wurzburg today, we have been here before and look forward to returning again and perhaps exploring parts of the city we missed the last time. Atad cooler this morning which will be ideal for when exploring.

Monschau. I would try to stay away from lunchtime if given an option.
There is a monschau moutarde 8.50 in nice reusable jar. Sold in cake shop on small bridge next to marketplace.
Cheapest decorative metal wine holders we have seen in one shop. Average 19 euros.
If you cycle or walk then anywhere around the lake is good. We stayed Heimberg for 7.50 rurberg is 15 couple of freebies but remote.
Look out for viewpoints.
And if cycling check gradient of route and get diesel when you see it around 93 94 cents. It doesn't get cheaper closer to Aachen.
Only half hour to Aachen so easy enough to head Calais.
Nb the speed camera warnings.
Enjoy

Rudski01 I believe that MORELO have had a promotional on 4th to the 14th to match what Concorde and PhoeniX have been doing at Schlusselfeld so possibly there was some booking arrangement for that, I can't see anything on their web site now.

I know, we’ve Just missed it, we were going to come back slightly further west, when I realised it’s not far off our return route I thought definitely worth a call in, I find at the shows in England, you have to queue to look at two models tops and feel you’re being rushed to get out, I was hoping to have a more leisurely mooch around to understand the models a lot better, don’t want to just turn up though.

I did not book a factory tour, we just did a walk in.The receptionist in the showroom, a fine looking blond bint said you can tour the manufacturing area by booking a tour on their website. That's all I have for you I'm afraid. Well! I'm not really afraid, just a figure of speech.

Ok I’ve phoned and she has said just turn up, I tried e mailing Andreas on his e mail address on the page that asks for you for a disclaimer regarding C19 to complete, it won’t allow me to send to him😩

This is just for the showroom visit so that will do for now

Cheers

I have always got a response on info@morelo.eu and you are right about Andreas as I have struggled before getting on his contacts list;) he must have his inbox set up to only accept mail from people he knows or have been forwarded from info@

Hopefully you will be able to spend as much time as you want in their showroom, we did three days:ROFLMAO:

I don't think that they will be doing the factory tours in these Covid times as they want to keep their workforce healthy and productive.

Lunch Wurzburg.

After a horrendous drive on Sunday where is seemed every German with a car was out and about we got to Aachen Monday at lunchtime. Mooched around town and had a couple of beers before dinner.

Yesterday set off at 08:10 for travel to tunnel, couple of broken down vehicles on way which delayed us by about 30 minutes and a couple of traffic slow downs at some busy junctions around Brussels but arrived at 12:55 including a pit stop for 30 minutes for a comfort break so not too bad.

Eurotunnel only running 1 train an hour so we were in time for our 13:50 which was on time, asked by both French and UK where our last stop was and by UK side if we had filled in Boris's form.

I know I’ve steered this thread off topic a bit so I’ll
Leave it for now and set up another thread, but just to say me and better half have decided to sell the Motorhome when we get back, we are in the process of getting planning permission for an old industrial garage in our village (to demolish) so the thing will just sit idle, we’ve secured a long term rental, and feel all our time will be spent on the new house, hopefully the Van depreciation won’t kill us, and again hopefully put money in a Morello savings pot for the future.

Wurzburg Residence. Today we done the tour inside the building and were blown away by what we saw. As good, if not better than the Peterhof palace in Russia. Absolutely stunning and a must see if visiting the City. For us, pensionardoes, €8.0 each and worth ten times as much. Unfortunately, only allowed to take pictures outside in the garden. Were on the parking area just down from the Roman bridge and even though €10.00 for 24 hrs, is in an ideal spot to explore the city on foot.

So updates will only be for Italy germany and Uk (unless anyone in Slovenia ? who currently sit at 43.4 or Poland at 19.0

We have now left Germany, popped into Luxembourg for diesel and gas ( 91.9 & 35.9)
Now near Maćon , 34.5 degrees. 🥵🥵

Don’t know if it was just near Trier but diesel was €1.30.9. Fair shot up in the last few days. 😳

Hiya all. In a vineyard in Trier crammed into small place with electricity but no other services .. I think. Internet or phone playing up have missed several posts - think ShaKen you are following us we were in Titisee same time as you and then in Meersburg Lake Constance - we went back to Baden Baden yesterday for another swim , Going onwards tomorrow along Moselle... nor have we seen another Brit ! Went to some godawful wine tasting / tour thing here today , all in German and didn’t understand it ( some people translated some of it ) then herded into tables where more unintelligible German was spoken for an hour and small 3 glasses of wine each poured .. it was so sweet I had to take a mouthful of one and slip to the loo to spit it out 😱😱 ( we are dry red drinkers ) then it transpired we were meNt to eat there ... we paid for wine tasting -11euros each aaargh and fled back to van . Very hot here - view lovely - Roman amphitheatre good. Rest of it I am blanking from mind xx

My German wine purchasing improved.
Trocken Rotwein is what you are after (dry red) halbtrocken is half dry but still ok.
The Dornfelder (grape) Rheinessen (region) Trocken (dry) rot (red) was pretty decent and only 2.29 a litre in Lidls.
I had weight left in the van after the 2 bikes, 10 litres of drivel wine and 10 boxes from the weingut to buy another 4 cases of the Dornfelder.

#thereservoirretruns

suavecarve - have to warn you that Dornfelder doesn't travel well! We drunk some when we were in Germany a few years ago and bought some home but it was horrible - it just doesn't travel well!

Isn't that true of all drinks we buy when on holiday and take home though;)

Having a brilliant time trying to communicate with the Germans all around us, decided to break the ice with the neighbours by producing homemade Babba Ganoush with homemade Pitta bread, and Wild Mushroom (hand picked Chanterelle, Ceps and Oyster, from the market in Dinkelsbuhl) Risotto.

Resulted in some 🔥 Peach Schnapps being presented ! And some great Granglish conversations.

Paid 10 groats for the horse drawn tour of Dinkelsbuhl, and (although we couldn't understand a word he said it was well worth it!). We had visited the TI beforehand and picked up a map of the town with descriptions, to read on the way.

Lovin' 💓 Germany!

Cheers
Red, Chris and Bannock.
