Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

Just watch the little Hitler @ Weingut Kettern , Neumagen Dhron. He is a bit inflated with his prices AND don’t buy wine from him, 10€ for cheap wine. 😡😡😡

suavecarve - have to warn you that Dornfelder doesn't travel well! We drunk some when we were in Germany a few years ago and bought some home but it was horrible - it just doesn't travel well!
As long as the alcohol remains and it goes into my introvenous drip it will be fine !!!

I did see some some greek retsina wine which we loved when in Greece but wondered what we bought when we got home.

I can tell you the Trocken Dornfelder from the Weingut has travelled very well down my oesophagus this evening.

The stuff we bought at the side of the road. That didnt travel well from Kaiserslauten to Aachen !

Uk 55.6
Germany 22.7
Italy 32.8
Belgium 75.7
Netherlands 78.9

Update on france and Spain 162 and 280 respectively.

I think I can lose Belgium and Netherlands who showed some promise but going in the wrong direction now.
So updates will only be for Italy germany and Uk (unless anyone in Slovenia ? who currently sit at 43.4 or Poland at 19.0
Jon, thank you very much for continuing to provide us with regular/daily updates on the figures. It really is much appreciated, especially as you are back home now. 👍

Enjoy your Federweisser Wein, which I hope won't cause you anymore grief. You might want to ensure you have a supply of Imodium handy for the next morning. 😂 BTW, does Mrs Suavecarve still love you? 😉

Cheers,

Jock. 😉

We have now left Germany, popped into Luxembourg for diesel and gas ( 91.9 & 35.9)
Now near Maćon , 34.5 degrees. 🥵🥵
All of that sounds lovely ...warm and good value

I got an o grade in German 31 years ago and haven't used it lol ....I've forgotten far more than I remember

My German wine purchasing improved.
Trocken Rotwein is what you are after (dry red) halbtrocken is half dry but still ok.
The Dornfelder (grape) Rheinessen (region) Trocken (dry) rot (red) was pretty decent and only 2.29 a litre in Lidls.
I had weight left in the van after the 2 bikes, 10 litres of drivel wine and 10 boxes from the weingut to buy another 4 cases of the Dornfelder.

#thereservoirretruns
Dornfelders Troken is the only German red that is palatable that I have found up to now, Thanks Suavecarve 👍 everything is just to sweet, so if I can’t find that I’m on French or Italian

We found that in Germany, Trocken usually means “not quite as sweet a the sweetest thing in the sweety shop”
Never could be described as “dry” by all known measures 😀

Moselland Riesling Trocken is not cheap but a very nice dry white - the red was good too though I still prefer French.

Just a bit more info on Frankonia, as I know that some are in the area or planning to come - Wuerzburg is classed as a Covid Hotspot with an infection rate of 64.1 over 7 days.
It appears to be spreading through schools, and a secondary school has been closed as a result.
Special measures introduced there include banning the sale of food and alcohol after 10pm in city centre bars and restaurants and in open air establishments along the Main.
We visit Wuerzburg fairly regularly, but may give it a miss this time.🤔

We have now started our journey down the romantic road and today are in Rotheburg O.D.T. Wow, wow, wow! Pictures later. Overcast and cooler today, thank God.

We're just up the road at Brauerei Gasthof Landwehrbrau, heading into ROT in a couple of minutes to check it out and, hopefully book the vets for tomorrow.

Cheers
Bannock, Chris and Red.

Another Covid-related post: Many shops here are regulating the number of people they are letting in, by requiring each customer to pick up a shopping basket as they enter. If two people enter together, they must pick up a basket each (as my husband found out to his embarrassment when he was called back to the door in Edeka).
If there are no baskets by the door when you want to go in you have to wait until someone returns one.

Whilst I do not doubt you, this has not been my experience. Masks and 1.5 Meter rule applies with plenty of signage. To date we have never been asked to use baskets ???

After a horrendous drive on Sunday where is seemed every German with a car was out and about we got to Aachen Monday at lunchtime. Mooched around town and had a couple of beers before dinner.

Yesterday set off at 08:10 for travel to tunnel, couple of broken down vehicles on way which delayed us by about 30 minutes and a couple of traffic slow downs at some busy junctions around Brussels but arrived at 12:55 including a pit stop for 30 minutes for a comfort break so not too bad.

Eurotunnel only running 1 train an hour so we were in time for our 13:50 which was on time, asked by both French and UK where our last stop was and by UK side if we had filled in Boris's form.
I have just come across by the tunnel for my MOT (or rather my motorhome's MOT which was a pass, I'm not sure I would be :) and I can confirm just a couple of quick questions and you are in without quarantine as an arrival from Germany, not from France.
I passed by Brussels about 3 am and I can say that the traffic was very light.

Ended up missing Monschau and grabbing a spot here <Broken link removed>. Good walk around town and popped out for a spin to Vogelsang on the bike - not been there since 1989! This place is packed and there is now no space until Sunday. You can reserve a min of two nights by email info@womo-nationalpark-eifel.eu. Will definantly be coming back here for a longer stay

I can give you hundreds of pics of RodT, we go every year sometimes twice a year😂😂
Are you on the Stellplatz outside the gate? Just round the corner from Edeka and Aldi?

ps that blue building in pic4 is Hotel Glocke und Weingut, it was our hotel every year from 2004 when we was on the Harleys, we are on first name terms👍😂😂😂

For the first time in 2 weeks I have the heating on  the weather has been fantastic

Must be a Southerner...:giggle:😮

Rothenburg OT was very nice, the walls and architecture are superb. It is more than likely, that if we are in the area in the future, we would spend a few days here. (Our German neighbours at the last SP were from nearby and said that Christmas came everyday in Rothenburg... )

We were the only van on the Private PP at Reichelschofen until around 16:30, then we had a steady flow of newbies, until at around 18:30 the overflow was full. The "obligitory" food here ranges from 15 groats upward for mains, I would recommend the Karpenfillet and Chris enjoyed her Schwine Schnitzel; a small selection for vegetarians and vegans are out I'm afraid.

Going to visit nearby Keltenwall tomorrow, then a 3+hr drive to the Vets in Bernkastel-Keus then find a place to chill.

Cheers
Red, Chris and Bannock.

Stayed at the Stellplatz at Freiburg GPS 48.58088, 8.04556. 20 min walk to town hall, main building is locked but next to it on the right is a smaller entrance between the town hall and the tourist information office went in with log book and CoC only looked at log book 4.90 Euro Cash Only, done there and then. The town hall is about twenty mins walk from the Aire,
Aire was 9 Euro Cash Only for 7.5 mtr motorhome without electric or services.

We have arrived at Reil thanks for the warm welcome those of you who are here and Dave for helping us to find somewhere to park 👍 we are hoping to move onto the river front today if we get the chance and at the moment are planning to stay here through the weekend. We even managed to find a wine cellar and tested some of the local red 🍷Cheers
