Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

We have now started our journey down the romantic road and today are in Rotheburg O.D.T. Wow, wow, wow! Pictures later. Overcast and cooler today, thank God.
Go in the toy shop that has the old truck outside. Its really big inside and they might have the xmas grotto open.

We went to Dachau yesterday 😢😢 then headed up the A9 into a shed load of traffic jams.
So we spent the night on the Morelo Stellplatz, early rise as they are still doing construction work, driving up to the showroom this morning for a look around😁

I can give you hundreds of pics of RodT, we go every year sometimes twice a year😂😂
Are you on the Stellplatz outside the gate? Just round the corner from Edeka and Aldi?

ps that blue building in pic4 is Hotel Glocke und Weingut, it was our hotel every year from 2004 when we was on the Harleys, we are on first name terms👍😂😂😂
Yes we are on said Stellplatz and when we arrived yesterday at midday had loads of spaces. Not know however and when we walked into the town for the second time at 7 p.m. last night it was full with some campers parking on the road as no bays available. The town shuts down at 8 p.m. but we were directed to the Rock bar which was doing good trade.

Anybody into bikes and cars there is a VW/Audi garage about 20k down the road from Rothenburg ODT with some interesting stuff including this a few tears ago.

When traveling in Germany & Eastern France its quite staggering just how many there are.

If all goes to plan we will be in Germany in about a week & half.

Wow, when you turn into the SP you Turn right (in front of the toilets) for the best area the left up the hill into the second area/overflow are you saying that was full too?? You can get many motorhomes up there!! We managed to get on the area turning right a couple of times, last time we went to the campsite at Detwang (Needed facilities and to do some washing)!
Looking forward to more of your trip👍

Martin, isn’t that one of them Confederate bikes?? I think David Beckham has one👍
P51 off the set of transformers or some such story, a work of engineering arm for sure, basically everything was CNC milled billet alloy.

Yes Bud. Rammed in both car parks, we were in the overspill which was full by mid afternoon. We left this morning and there were many spaces on our departure. Now in Dinklesbuhl and managed to get one of the free spaces still available. I suspect this too will be full within the next 4-5 hours. Plenty more pic's to come! I'm convinced every german motorhome is here in Germany. It's been chock- o-block with them since our arrival.

We continue to meander along the Main river which is less busy then the Mosel/Rhine areas but not by much. Yesterday we pitched up on the Stellplatz on the opposite side of the river to the town. The Old town is very picturesque with the usual selection of shops and bars. The Stellplatz was full by evening but there are alternatives, beer and Aperol spritz were supplied by a converted London bus sited on the Stellplatz.

Having said our goodbyes to garjanco Gary & Janet, (we've all had a ball over the last fortnight 👍 ), they started their journey north heading home, whilst we have headed east a bit initially to Bingen, our plan A. Upon arrival it became immediately clear that the MH overnight areas definitely weren't for us, ie, on a bit of wasteland with a busy railway behind, so we carried on to plan B, Ingleheim am Rhein, a SP by the local swimming pool. It is listed both in CC and SFS Apps.
All town type amenities are close by with the centre a 15 minute walk away. 👍

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

Interestingly Sweden came off the naughty list the other day (12/9/20). They are currently 30.3 if that helps with decision making.

Stayed at the Stellplatz at Freiburg GPS 48.58088, 8.04556. 20 min walk to town hall, main building is locked but next to it on the right is a smaller entrance between the town hall and the tourist information office went in with log book and CoC only looked at log book 4.90 Euro Cash Only, done there and then. The town hall is about twenty mins walk from the Aire,
Aire was 9 Euro Cash Only for 7.5 mtr motorhome without electric or services.
What’s a CoC and what where you paying for ?

€6.90 at the DEKRA MOT Station at Zell, slightly more than I paid at DEKRA Rudesheim am Rhein few years ago.

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

Ok
So can you help a total ignoramus out here.
We are going to Germany from Switzerland in a few days.
What do I do to get one?
Are they easily available?
Thanks

It's very straight forward, search for a German MOT (TUV, DEKRA or GTU) station on Google maps, drive to it, present your V5 and they will issue you with your sticker and ask for about 6 groats.

"Umwelt Aufkleber, Bitte" with lots of smiles and Danke's thrown in worked well for us...

You should end up with a Green Sticker with a number 4 in the centre, if not, explain in your best Granglish, that it is a "Whonmobile"... I've not seen anything on the road that is not classed as 4 if its a motorhome.

Please ignore my german spellings, I've only been at it for two weeks...

The visit to Keltenwall was very interesting, informative, and I imagine, without C19, would have been more interactive. There is a "Flax Breaker" there that started up in the 1300's and was used until 1926! The village must have been huge! I walked the walls and am sure they encompass many more acres than Chester! All the info boards are in German so make sure you take Google Translate with you! I also met my first "Edible Doormouse", they're HUGE! Apparenty the Romans thought they were a delicacy.

Looks to me like Piece en Piece construction was developed by the Celts, not the French?

Then drove for hours (6hrs) through traffic on the AutoBahhn to BernKastel to see Christian Marks with Bannock, the van threw in an engine light for good measure, so we pulled in to a service station and hooked up the diagnostic software, apparently the injector on pot 3 is not behaving, intermittantly...., cleared the fault and so far...., so good....

Christian Marks... What can I say... A proper CHARACTER, If you've met him you know what I mean, when you meet him, you'll understand what I mean, 4 Groats to worm and examine Bannock, including the tablet.....!

Now at a free SP about 50km from BernKastel, in the middle of nowhere, very quiet, but with full services, loving it..!

Tomorrow on to our start point at Hellenthal, a homecooked meal with Drexxer and dart for the tunnel on Sunday

Cheers
Bannock, Chris and Red

Yes, I did the same for the first one for the Hymer, but it was a Class 2 (red) Plakette. I then managed to get a Class 4 (green), but then the screen cracked, so I needed another...............but the replacement screen cracked within hours after applying the new Plakette, and as you can't remove them without destroying them, I was stuffed. I managed to get a (Class 4) replacement at Zell two years ago. That has now gone with the new owner.
On the Iveco based Flair, there is already a Class 4 Plakette on the front screen..........but guess what, there is a bullseye of a stone chip right in the middle of the driver's view, which we acquired on the way to the Mosel, so yet another replacement Plakette has been purchased, ready for a screen replacement when we get home. 😕

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

I've just got a new one as just had the screen changed. I'm going to laminate it then stick it on the screen so it's easy to remove.
Still waiting for the French one to arrive.

Yes, that's on the cards when we get back, as is one of those stick on tax disc holders to house it in. 😉
I'm not going to bother with the Criti Air Plakette this time round, until I know I actually need one.

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂
