Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

We are on Eurotunnel next Sunday then wandering around for a month. First couple of nights on a site in the Eiffel then head South on the Weinstrasse for a couple of days and then the Black Forest. Heading over towards Fussen or Garmisch then North on the Romantic Route.
I have seen your comments about how busy it is, but hoping that will ease towards the end of the month.
Thanks for this thread. Has been invaluable.

Hello all

Not wanting to be handcuffed by our governments diktats.....
We are making our way back from Germany to France
We have an early shuttle 7.30 am
Are we ‘allowed’ to stop in France overnight if we don’t get out of the van So as to avoid 14 days quarantine ?
If not is there a car park at Calais tunnel departure that we could stay at for a few hours
Cite Europe is closed I know
Any advice greatly appreciated

Sue according to the government website you'll be ok providing you don't get out of the van and mix with others... i.e. fill up with fuel and whatever else before you leave Germany.

In past experience, we've been fine arriving at the terminal a few hours early. Same rules apply I guess, stay in the van.

As per previous response but they may want to check your van for migrants if you say you have overnighted within van near calais

We’ve left Einsidel and have come to an açsi site
here
image.jpg

we left at nine this morning, the road out was ram packed with camper vans squeezed into every parking place possible, queues to get in everywhere were unbelievable, we opted for here as looking at the forecast temps are going through the roof and didn’t want to be driving and trying to find places, first impressions, plenty of room, 30 second walk to the lake for swimming, big restaurant and beer garden, Leccy and water and grey water disposal on the pitch, need to move to another pitch in the morning but 3 nights booked in all. Happy days and time to chill.

All i can say is i have never heard of eurocard. Cash seems the method for sp and finding credit card payment has been scarce

I’ve had card payment refused a few times. A check on Google shows that 80% of all transactions in Germany are in cash.

So a trip to the ATM is advisable.

Eurotunnel says on its website that it will charge you up to £200 if you arrive more than 2 hours before your train.

What documents do you have to have ready at Calais re Covid and immigration?
You fill in the Gov UK form and which can then be stored on your phone to be checked at border control.we came back from Gemany 3 weeks ago and no one asked to see it or even mentioned it.

EDIT - just seen you are asking re the Euro side so may not be what you are looking for.

Is this common or have we just been unlucky?

You're on the ParkingPlatz that we met up with suavecarve last week, it's nice, take an early morning walk up to the shooting club and grab yourself an early morning apple 🍎 off the tree on the way up. Also a short stroll up the footpath below you and opposite the playground reveals the best view of the building above you on the hill.

We load a Revolut with £ then exchange online into € as we need it, also carry a few hundred Groats with us for use when the card is not accepted.

Cheers
Chris, Red and Bannock

Monschau and round eifel national park.

Heimbach 7.50 and good value. Next to train station and guess it might be every 2 hours and no doubt i will find out the time of the early one tomorrow.

Some sort of night time market next week so may get busy. Possible overflow in car parks for night.

The belgian chocolate shop was in Germany!!!

We were in Monschau today, too. Parked on the Stellplatz car park for the afternoon and used service point. We're now at Wanderparkplatz near Rohren - free and very nice and quiet. May stay another day as there's lots of walking and cycling - plus shade, if it's going to be hot.
Bergues was full, when we arrived last night at around 8pm. We parked on the grass outside the aire.
Still haven't decided where to go next. Thinking maybe the Bamberg area

If successful coming back this way to try them out. If not then probably shooting home.

We are hoping to look for e bikes in Aachen a week today. If you find a decent store could you post details?
Thanks.

Are they cheaper in Germany suavecarve? Looking at the amount of people that have them here I might be wrongly assuming they are.

Plenty of internet research reveals boc aachen.
Huge place. A few of them in Germany. Internet free delivery. (Unsure about uk) big range. From £1600 for etrekking bike. Will bung link up later when on lappy

I can only tell you that people (plural) have told me they are cheaper and nobody disagreed.
I can also say that if you want a decathlon bike they are the same numbers in germany to uk only its euros to pounds. The choice in decathlon is appalling. One male one female choice but worth looking at in case they fit your bill.
Do a decathlon search then check store availability as it looks like they have loads but they are unavailable

<Broken link removed>

is the bike we have our eye on for the wife. We want to have the ability to slightly rougher roads than tarmac without breaking the spokes. We want to keep up with the overweight pensioners who take their defibs with them. We would like 60 miles + range. We want to be able to get up steep inclines (not mountains).

And for the man in her life https://www.boc24.de/p/bicycles-porto-94/212872/?sortBy=price#itemId=212872-1

The main reason for selecting these 2 is they were 2,400 euros but they work out to be £1,700 so in my warped thinking i think i am getting better value for money.

If anyone knows about the bikes please feel free to educate me as i am not educated in this area. (look at the tandem i bought!)

Headed up the road from a very busy Ulm to a very empty wild spot on the banks of the Wormitz river near Oettingen in Bayeren, absoloutly beautiful. Going to spend a few nights here and range out on the bike to Nordlingen, Dinkelsbuhl and Rothenburg Ober Tauber.

Managed to buy a mini cattle bell for Bannock's collar, now when he's off the lead we can hear if he moves, know exactly where he is and how far away!

Beware of the car park at the tunnel !!!!! We stayed overnight in it in January and 3 migrants tried to get in our garage. Passport control said it was fairly normal when we told them. It’s really not safe at all.

Thanks for that. We have also checked out Velo, 69 Karlesgraben, Aachenon the internet.

Just taken a quick peek and "Awful" website !!!
Its in the town centre as well so we ll probably give that one a miss.
There is another one (which appeared more expensive) about 100 yards away from BOC. You should be able to see it on google maps

So we trundled on and have ended up in eiffel at Schleiden.
By far the worst aire/sp we have stayed at. The town looked promising upon arrival but let us down supremely.

Which one did you stay at? The Swimming pool or the RV Spot at the entrance to the National Park?

We stayed at the National Park and was great for walking and Cycling, if you get a chance head up to the VogelSang which was the old Nazi Youth training camp very interesting place to walk around.

Update at Reil, lots of spaces this morning.
Ebikes we have also been looking, the local bike shop in Zell looking a little like a BMW showroom had lots of bikes north of 2500€ !
We are going to check out Decathlon in Koblenz later. After that a little trip along the Rhine and Main rivers is plotted.
