Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

Hi all Sarah here Kirsten’s OH. We have made it to Titisee - last spot On the stellplatz outside he campsite - now thinking we need to stay Till Sunday if it is that busy. Met a Lovely German couple who told us about camping in the woods near Konstanz as they couldn’t get in anywhere either...
Staying til sunday sounds like a cunning plan to me.
I know i m not doing it but i have a few b c and plans up my sleeve !

Great help Bellabee, ShaKen Busman and all . We are here for 2 nights at the moment so one more then leave Sunday seems best of good advic

Ooh maybe for another thread, but what is it with slamming doors? They do not know the power of push the door then click, it’s like a bloody typhoon has ripped them out of their hands and BOOM!

I had the cheek to move tonight as we didn’t realise the van next door had a two yr old and a approx 2 month old that was screaming when we got back from town, pulled in between Two vans 4 plus ft either side can’t hear baby screaming, jobs a good un, new Next door buddy decided why has he been and bloody moved next to me? Scopes out where I’ve just moved from, walks back slams his door, I said to the wife think I’ve upset him, the other new next door buddy comes back and slammed his door 3 times that hard it shook our van and his doors on the opposite side, said to the wife, think I’ve upset him also !
If you had seen where I have just come from they were running with their bikes to dump on the pitch if anyone left the site to baggsy the pitch and parking within farting hearing distance to catch the last rays I could have opened my window and stolen his wallet 🤣
Bloody English man tries it it a bid F u jobbie,

Moving on Tomorrow we’ll come back here when things have settled down, hopefully, lovely town with fantastic Mountain biking and walking, loads of restaurants and great brewery also unfortunately only got a pint of the local stuff

Plan was to move on to Oberammergau later tomorow, but it's only going to get more busy, and it sounds like they DO NOT like wilding in that area. Plan B, explore Fussen more tomorrow, stay here the weekend, and check out the Bus/Train routes to Garmisch for Saturday/Sunday, probably skip the "Eagle's Nest" and start heading North on Sunday... We'll see...

Had a fantastic meal tonight at the Hotel Hirsch in Fussen, phoned and booked a Beer Garden table for 18:00 (in English), all Mains between 18 and 20 Groats, I'd recommend the roast Deer, but (I think) everyone enjoyed their food.

Cheers
Red, Chris, Andy and Anna.(Drexxer )

Good idea👍. Last year, we found that parking up at a popular spot on Thursdays and staying over the weekend generally paid off.

Got into Wintrich at 11.00 yesterday - site full bollard went up at 2pm. I went for a cycle around and every SP and parking spot around here is full. We will defo be sat still until Sunday. There are worse places to be stuck though :giggle:

Wow
Can’t believe how busy it’s got, we left 9ish to head down to Fussen and have a walk to the Castles, then headed to Oberammergau which was full then to Garmisch Couldn’t get parked as van is too big,

We had exactly the same experience in Germany, finding most places full or exceptionally busy.
Our last stop was also Mttenwald and stayed on the €5.00 parking spot by the canal/river: Parkplatz Ried (47.437706, 11.26926). Much better than the cramped Platz by the train station. Lovely town.
We crossed to Italy on Wed 9th via the Brenner Pass and now at Camping Al Pescatore on Lake
Caldonazzo (approx 10k to R of Trento) and its a real joy to be on a quiet €18 ACSI campsite that has everything we need with some great lakeside restaurants close by.

We are currently in Garmisch-Partenkirchen till tomorrow but thinking we may stay another day and start to move north Sunday or try for somewhere off the beaten track tomorrow and hope to get in.

I wonder if it will start to get quieter on German sites after this weekend, as that is normally the end of the German summer holiday season. 🤔

I hope so, as I need to find 2 other sites for my return leg later in the week.

As far as i can tell the following areas are rammed, Garmisch, Fussen, Constance, Tittisee, moselle and Rhine.

Trouble is .... we are all there ! I m off the high tourist demand bit (but still touristy) and its busy but not preventative. With the forecast though it could be prove interesting this weekend and i may be changing plans (again) as Rhine or Moselle were on the list.

We’ve got on this place

Everyone seems to be playing cat and mouse with the Stellplatz bingo we were on the road at 07:30 called into An Adeka then here, tight pitches so waited for a few to leave, we also called to the campsite down the road from here and they were also full, we are staying put until the weekends over as I don’t want another day just scrapping around for a place to pitch up.

It does have leccy and water 👍

Over the last few weeks we travelled down the Black Forest route to Lake Tittisee which was very busy and the rest of the time around Constance and your right the campsites have all been rammed but to be fair we have very lucky with our choice of Platz. I have tried to keep away from the ‘ town center’ ones and kept away from the lake side. Today we are at the Tettnang Platz and intend to visit the Zepplin Museum at Friedrichshafen this afternoon. It a 30 minute bike ride but easy on an ebike.
I can recommend The Platz at Stetten ( arrive before 1100 hrs ) was very very good and we stayed there for 5 days. Meersburg has all the ferry connections you want to visit Constance etc and super cycle rides.

I wouldn't bank on it being quieter next week, particularly in view of the weather forecast.
It may be different this year, but in past years we have seen very few families out and about. It's just been very busy with the over-55's.

We'll be adding to that number on Saturday 🙂.

Are you cycling to the Museum as there is pretty much suitable parking in the area (or we couldn't find any when we tried to visit last christmas)

ing so too.

Anyone stayed (and can recommend) the Stelpatz at Aachen?

I’m looking for an overnighted before my sprint back to the Chunnel next week.

And excuse my ignorance, but can you book Stelplatz or is it luck of the draw (I have just used Campsites so far on my trips to Europe)?

Sounds horrible for getting a parking spot in Germany..........it’s beginning to put us off coming 😞

We are moving on tomorrow now heading for Wald. Tom Tom is saying head out thru Austria and re enter Germany near Fussen as fastest route. I am OK as we will not stop so will not upset Boris however wondering if there would be any issues with the border or will we need a go box as over 3.5t looks like route is not on motorway but anyone can advise who has driven that route. Looks like the 187 and 179 in Austria over Fernpass.

We've been looking at Wanderparkplatz Rohren, near to Monschau, found on Camper Contact. No facilities, but looks OK for one night.

I wonder if we saw you driving round - a 20 plate late in the afternoon. My first spot of a UK plate !!
No, ours is a shonky old ‘11 plate Frankia. 😎
For future reference. 😜
