Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

So not very good then?
Depending where you live no doubt. We have seen quite a few stations selling LPG but like home most do not its just a case of using the App to find one.

There are a hole load more LPG stations in Germany. I have a choice of 3 to fill up with tomorrow in Emmendingham but the 51 cents per litre is going to get my business. I m struggling a bit with adblue from a pump at the moment though but no great rush as long as i get it filled before I go home.

Or if you are on the way out, and going through belgium and staying longer than a fortnight, then i know a place that does it for 28 cents a litre just off the motorway 50.607982, 3.278476 (added to map)

Thank you. That’s great information

We stayed last night at Bad Durkheim, west of Mannheim (saw your review suavecarve). Full but probably like the UK, because its the weekend. There always seems space for one more though. Irish families pulled up late on with caravans and no one seemed to mind. They were on the way home after grape picking. Seemed a decent quiet lot.

Now at the stellplatz on the river Neckar at Hirschhorn. Its 12:30 pm and there are still one or two spaces next to the river with electricity. Unless there is a rush later there would be plenty of room for more without power. Pay in the Sports Bar from 14:00 on.

Will be interesting to see what it's like midweek as we move south.
One of my more sensible reviews.
I met someone who read this review of mine and didnt go there based upon it !

Easily the worst aire in france. Possible to stay overnight. Local sellers have most things for sale at night including herion and cocaine. Several people looking to buy. Didnt feel safe to even open roof. No sleep at all. Wonderful view of the river just beyond the local drunks.

I am new to this and posted this query on another thread but there was no response so I an wondering if you have any answers
What is the environmental zone sticker? Nearly got caught last year as so much of Europe is no longer allowing diesel vehicles into town So you cannot access the stelplatz without one
I asked a German MHO who said that Germans seem to buy a disc like road tax that covers them for the year. does anyone know about this?

Put Umwelt Plakette into the search on this forum or on Google generally and you should find plenty of information. Usually easy to just buy it in Germany but obviouslybefore you enter a green zone city!

It is not imperative to have one, however it is very advantageous.

You take your V5 (and Certificate of conformity if necessary) into an MOT garage in Germany and had over the princely sum of about 6 euros for life and they stick a sticker (green in my case) with a number (4) which stays with the van. Then you can forget about it. Your coffee will still be warm when its done.

Alternatively you can buy one over the internet and run the risk of choosing the wrong site and paying 30 euros for the same privilege.

This will just cover Germany though. France is best to avoid the areas such as Grenoble Paris and I think its Lyon. They have yet to enforce the temporary ones on specific days to my knowledge

Thanks for the information our MH is a 2008 Burstner with higher emissions than the newer ones but presumably a German garage would see that from the V5
The German MHO I spoke with in very broken English said that they paid every year
Netherlands looks as if the whole country almost is covered by environmental zones

I know nothing of Dutch environmental zones other than to avoid them like the plague and do not foresee me going near them. Holland is for passing through at this moment in time for me. I suspect it is just major towns. I remember Antwerp had numerous signs up on their rocade, but with traffic flow around there I had plenty of time to read the signs !
My German one is for life of the motorhome so perhaps some interlingual misinterpretation

I’m heading for Bergues, anyone there and if so is there space ?
Was there Tue,, plenty of space then.
On a site near Avignon,,usually 60 vans on here this time of year,,only six plus a tent at the moment..We have the pool to ourselves😁😁BUSBY.

Germany always seems to have a lot of roadworks. Mostly no problem until you hit a main road closure as we did yesterday going through Mannheim. Spending more time concentrating on the satnav we missed the diversion signs and by then it was too late. At that point the satnav keeps trying to get you back onto the closed road. So it took a couple of circuits of the city centre before we made our way out.

The sign to look out for is a vertical yellow oblong with a large U (umleitung ie diversion) , arrows and often a number. This is apparently preceded before the actual diversion with the same U on a white background and a large red circle above. More complex advance diversions are on the same white background with blue letters/arrows.

We have been travelling around Germany for several years now and have been caught out a couple of times before so decided that now was the time to learn a bit more!

Hopefully the attached PDF works to show the signs.

thanks I guess I shall check on google before I go. Haven’t been this year although I had planned a return trip to the German Baltic coast

Drove across Germany twice last year and road works were a nightmare not only were motorways crammed but all minor roads seemed to be closed with lengthy detours. Now we try to cross Germany on motorways only at the weekend when lorries are banned but watch out for the very very fast German cars

I drove around in circles for ages last year following a diversion with my satnav trying to take me back to the diversion 😂
Reading some of these posts is making me think Germany is packed! At one point I was just going to go to France and quarantine on return but their rates of covid are accelerating quickly!

Bad Durkheim usually has a massive wine festival and fair this time of year
I assume this year its been curtailed but a lot of folk will have booked their places on the site from last year and decided to go anyways.
In a normal year it attracts about 600,000 over a couple of weekends
We were there last year and it was an experience :Eeek:

You probably didn't miss the signs
Putting up diversions is not one of the Germans strong points
We have encountered closed roads most times we have been over and very seldom been able to follow a marked diversion.
I thought it was just us but speaking to a Dutch guy on a site last year they have the same issue
Always lets you sea parts of the country you would otherwise miss :giggle:

We stayed another night (at €5 inc EHU would be rude not to) and cycled to Bingen and took ferry over to Rudesheim and cable car up to the memorial. Quite now the weekend peeps have gone quite a few spaces free.

Grantham to Hellenthal in one hop - no traffic to speak of. Staying in the pay platz a little further down the track than redflame used. 12 Euros incl elec and a free bottle of wine 🥳🥳. Basic but very friendly - toilets not open but grey and black waste dumps are.

Thanks for including France.
We’re still booked for October but unable to Q14 do looking less likely by the day ... but you never know ...
Interesting that Matt Hancock last week said our numbers were stable, only EU countries rising 😉. Good to see raw data.

Zwerichbachfalle you cant get within abou 5kms with a motor over 3 tonne
E bikes will be required or motorbike.
You can dump motorhome by bridge but its a trek on foot.
From the car park it says 1500 metres and it looks like a slope to start. It gets steep. Not insurmountable but you need a stop at the top then you see waterfall with 4 viewing areas at different levels and you forget about your legs.
You pass an honesty shop with beer at 2 euros pop at 1.50

Moved on down the road to Obertsrot, free SP on P4N and S4S, some electric, thats it. Plenty of space. Had a massive big kid moment and visited the Unimog Museum (awesome!).

Met a British couple that are full timing.

Off to Baden Baden and Bad Wildbad for a visit tomorrow.

Cheers Bannock, Chris and Red
