Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

First day on our trip to Germany and we have stopped At Oswaldtwistle at the Stanhill pub & kitchen as it’s very near where I’am picking up my new bike. Lovely pub stop with superb food. Don’t know how much it is yet but if you want to GTB feel free. We had the 5 Tapas View attachment 421616View attachment 421617
Havent got a scooby but random 30 euros.

I also dont know how many bottles of wine that wine glass holds !!!!

German red wine.

Now i like my wine and know what i like. But cant say i know anything about german red. Armed with limited knowledge at edeker we plumped for this baby in the less than 2 euro category.
We will be buying it by the box when returning.
The second one is very sweet

Are lieblich and trocken grapes ?

I thought I wouldn’t like German wine until I discovered Trocken Riesling and a red that I’ve forgotten ... the Riesling was one of the best wines I’ve tasted but wasn’t actually that cheap 😉

Kirsten Where are you ?

(updated on another thread 1730 hrs last night)

Just at Tunnel. Planned to start a thread of journey but as ever all conspired against me today ( euros to collect ordeal -last min shopping traffic and queue issue.. got off later than hoped .) But arrived here 3 1/2 hours early for Booked 8.20 crossover gutted to be told we needed to pay £130 to get on 17.30 crossing ( had looked yesterday £30 max difference on the website 😱)So reverted your base line of Can’t pay Won’t pay From poll tax days . Now eating m and S food for tea in moho park Tesco shop aborted due to traffic in town this am. Crossing scheduled With No extra charge for 19.20 but suspicious there ate places on the earlier ones so hoping to squeeze on ASAP. No idea where we are going after Aachen if we get that far tonight. I drove here so I am helping by navigating the Forren Roads. No sense of direction me so this may be a giggle . Or late night disaster . Got fuel from the Tesco just past the tunnel turn off so don’t need to stop before Germany . Thank you guys for the encouragement .... will update but too difficult I think to post pics from phone for me . Computer at home with cats xx

Do you have a satnav ?
Do you have roaming data on your phone ? Then updating is easy. (even for me)

Is it just me that thinks Stellplatz costs have gone up?
Its only our second time in Germany so can only go off last year but the last place at the end of Rurberg was 15 euro, 2 for water then 1euro/For measured amount of electric, it was in a nice quiet area but the Campsite were on currently is 22 euro all in, it got very busy yesterday though. I know there are cheaper Stellplatz out there, it’s maybe just due to us being in the Eifel national park.

Rurnerg was 8 last year.
Emmendingen gone from free to 7 euros

We have done 6 nights all free so far.

S4s advanced search for free in germany is your friend here

Yes they’ve have gone up. What in life doesn’t.

I agree everything goes up at some point but the Stellplatz app is stating 8 euro and when We got there it was 15 so almost doubling, so it maybe the app isn’t catching up.

S here. Kirstens Other Half. Will try and post too as we go along. We spent the night in a very sweet (free) car park in Ste Maria Aalter (near Alter) in Belgium. As you can see it is in the middle of a walking and cycling area which we know very well as the satnav brought us here via the cycle lanes! Thank heavens it was late so we didn’t meet anything coming the other way. The lanes are bordered by very tall trees with no passing places!

Try turning phone off and on again. Roaming data seems to work after that. It would seem the rivers are where there is more heat in Germany according to weather forecasts.
Glad to see you made it across

Walk round Donaueschingen last night gave us these photos.

Tandem wheel is off. Been to bike shop. Just a plain no to having spokes for the bike so off hunting bike shops today

And there is brewery here Fursteiner

A word of warning for anyone having a stop over in Belgium enroute to Germany (as we did).

Some campsites are refusing a booking if you’ve stayed in Belgium in the last 14 days.

Other sites will not let you in if you’ve been in a “High Risk” area which includes Brussels and Antwerp areas as well as some areas in France.

Finally.......booked the tunnel for Monday morning! Plan to reach Trier region via BE & Lux without a stop, and find a Stellplatz on the Moselle for first night. Then head south in D to CH and stay a few nights in Schaffhausen, before final destination Zurich to visit our daughter. Questions/recommendations please: 1) any current issues LUX/D border? 2) Stellpaltz on river south side of Trier? 3) ditto Schaffhausen area? Will be following this thread for next 4 weeks!

We stayed at Luxoil Aire overnight in Mertert on the German border. A nice safe Aire and if you spend over 50 Euros, 8ncluding fuel you can have free services at the free Aire. Better still the shop sells discounted booze and is only 20 minutes from Trier. At Trier there is a free motorhome services place behind McDonald's and we stayed in the large car park along with 24 other motorhomes for free. You can pay 11.90 for the Stellplatz on the other side of the bridge if you choose to. Bus stop on the main road next to car park for the centre.

We have usually started at the Koblenz end. (town and fort are worth a look if you have not been before)
Lots of nice places away from the river depending on what you like to do
Trier we liked but we found there is a lot of mono culture on the river at that end

We came via Luxembourg. A bit longer but took advantage of diesel at 95.6c. Staying on the Moselle at the stellplatz at Remich - next to the swimming pool. Excellent fully serviced pitches for 15 euros. Campsite on the opposite side of the river seemed to be more expensive at 19 euros but didn't seem as nice to me. Cycled to Saarburg and viewed from the opposite bank of the river the stellplatze there looked pretty full and a goodly walk into the town, although easy on bikes.

BTW - there were possibly ten petrol stations on the road out of Remich! All seem to be the same price all over Luxembourg as far as I can see - set by the government?

Van passed it's first MOT today. Intending to book Tunnel for next Saturday :Grin:Not sure where we're heading but we're watching the weather.
