Germany/Austria August/September information sharing.

What is the difference between a stellplatz and an Aire?
Phil
I maybe quite wrong here.
But not a lot.
They all vary tremendously from a car park to a full on showers and all facilities.
All french villages are obliged to have an Aire , in Germany most have a stellplatz which is a stopover not a campsite. Legally allowed for overnighting.

I love absolutely useless information that i am only ever going to use once possibly in my life again.

I dont take it as being pedantic, i accept it as being educated and thank you.
OK here's one: the letter ù with a grave accent is only used in one word in the entire French language, but it has its own key on the French keyboard.

Best to change your keyboard in settings and you can then get the “ umlaut “ above the U.
On an ipad if you hold down a key, a popup will offer all the accented versions of that letter in all of the languages in the same language group, even if you don't have those other languages installed.
If you want to type French and German, then the Swiss keyboard offers both sets of accents. There is a Swiss-French and a Swiss-German version, each offers the other language accents as alternatives.

re Port de plaisance aire in Belgium, could anyone give me the co-ordinants please as this looks a useful stop for us. Have looked in my various books and park for night but no joy, thanks.

Dave I'll have you know I'm no longer a FLT I'll pay anything up to £5 a night inc electric.

Tunnel done and on route to Aachen via Belgium, could you send me the map too please!
Hi Rudski,
We hope to do that to avoid q14- if you see this post can you let us know how long the journey was please ? As originally booked on the 20.00 tunnel but trying to get over before that so we are not driving all day and night from door to door. Also any hints about how easy it is to get into the Stel in the dark , when doubtless stressed and without the correct coins !! xx Thank you

It was just over 4 hours BUT there is no issue with you overnighting in Belgium or france as long as you dont get out to socialise. If late head to Bergues go to sleep wake up continue journey. No need to find any euros for bergues. Half hour from tunnel. There are others dependant on how far you want to travel along the road
It also doesnt matter if you are away for a fortnight after that stop. (Assuming germany stays off naughty list)

Mendig where we have been since last night. Supposed to be only 24 hours but we are staying another night. Others are aswell. It emptied today so turn up early if using it.
We went to the shop at the brewery and bought a bottle of the vulcan single malt for FiL probably going back there in a mo as is pleasant.
Went to belvedere point 7kms west. All uphill. Great views though.
Afternoon at laachersee volcanic lake. Nice views saw bubbling water. Pleasant walk but not on our return list

Hopefully someone will contact you for your email addy via pm.
If not i get lappy out once a day.

We spotted that if you use the west to east road under aachen then the 2nd junction when in germany there is a big centre commercial with 4 petrol stations.
We have our eye on that for way home.
Paid 1.10 for diesel elsewhere yesterday.

The last fuel stop on that motorway in belgium right on the border did lpg for 0.44
We paid 95.6 in Luxembourg yesterday, thought it would be rude not to fill up😃

Yes we arrived 2hrs 30 mins early on the 22 nd and got onto a train 2 hrs earlier than planned FOC . The terminal was virtually empty as were the trains

Has anybody tried to get on the tunnel more than the stipulated 2hrs early ?
we have the possibility of getting there a little earlier

So we got to tunnel a bit early on Friday was offered an earlier train for€20 supplement so took our booked 16.20 one. Nearly all cars and MH stopped by security for explosive testing and one behind us they looked in garage. Train was not full but quite a few on there, went to Gravelines for the night only us and one other van on site so well socially distanced. Drove thru to Germany yesterday headed for Saarberg SP but it was full, filled and emptied and moved on to SP Sonnenberg last night which was a nice stop with individual pitches all for €8 paid on trust in a box. Cycle to Saarberg today then onto Weingut Feiton later to go to Trier from then probably arrive at Reil on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Sun is out so hopefully a good day once I get out of my PJ's🤣

On the DFDS ferry to Dunkerque. Delayed for 15 minutes and given free meal vouchers. Everyone told over tanoy to wear masks and all complying except some young French men who clearly don't care and much to the annoyance of some passengers and staff. Perhaps this attitude explains why France has a problem with Covid. Got a bit of a swell on too but not to bad.

Been reading a few posts about going to Reil. Is there something on there this week?

You were ripped off we paid 93.5 last week 😂
I don’t think it’s a stupid question.

There may be funsters that visit Germany each year at this time, and they may very well observe on the sites that they visit that there is more occupied pitches than they’ve seen in previous years.

I’m not asking for a census, or a count of vehicles and occupants, I’m asking for a “gut feel” from the guys on the ground.

We have been in Germany since the 23rd and I’ve seen 5 British vans in total, 2 at sites and 3 on the road. We are sitting on an SP next to lake Titisee which is usually a very busy tourist area but to be honest I get the feel that a lot of the touristic type businesses cafe’s etc just haven’t bothered opening this season.
It actually makes for a nice visit to Germany as it seems a lot quieter than usual.

We're off to Germany via France/Belgium in 13th Sept, was supposed to be France. Health insurance covers whilst 'in-transit' non-stop and in the destination. Accident and Breakdown are unaffected (as you would expect).
I've never been motorhoming in Europe before so if anyone has any tips on the best place to stop after crossing the Belgian/German border, I'd be very grateful indeed. Sure I've got loads of apps, but personal recommendations are priceless. :)
