Fiat 9 speed auto recall notice issued

I asked the technician who did ours what the update was.
He shrugged his shoulders “dunno mate”
He said he was doing a couple everyday and had not had any issues…. But sometimes he had to restart the process 2 or 3 times.

Does anyone know when this update was caught prior to MH production . We are in the throws of buying a brand new van on a fiat 2.2 180bhp with the 9 speed box . It’s a 2024 model hence I am concerned it may be affected . Do you think this may have the same issue . . The chassis could have been siting around at the manufacturer for months I guess therefore still be one that is in need of the update . ?
It’s illegal for a vehicle manufacturer to release a new vehicle knowing it needs updates.
If yours is Brand New the update will be applied before you collect…in any case you only have to ask?

Last year we bought a new BMW..2 days before collection a software recall was announced. It sat in the dealer another 2 weeks whilst they sorted it. They told me legally they couldn’t let us have it.

That might apply if you were buying a Fiat from a Fiat Agent but for a motorhome Fiat could have sold the vehicle many months ago.

No… it’s illegal for any dealer to sell any vehicle with an outstanding recall

“legislation means that dealers must take responsibility for any vehicle recalls on vehicles they have for sale and ensure that they are fixed before selling them to a customer. It is illegal in the UK for dealers to sell a car for sale that has an outstanding recall”

I am sure that is true of safety recalls that are registered on Government records but does this also apply to non safety voluntary updates like this. The Stellantis notification does not use the term recall but describes it as a customer satisfaction notification.

But it has a PDI by a fiat garage before sale. That may be the actual MH dealer as they may be a Fiat professional garage too or the nearest one to them.

I used to occasionally drive a Cargo with a straight cut Fuller, not the easiest. Interesting choice for an ERF, mind you I never did get the hang of the Eaton twin split, I remember asking another driver how he changed down? the answer was that he only did it when he was well away from the office
Once you got used to them they were still a pain in the ###

Its not a recall, its a software update, that Fiat are happy to do FOC

It’s a recall… that’s why it’s FOC. No manufacturer charges for a recall. They charge for software updates.

Ours was booked in this morning with our local Fiat Professional garage for the software update.
After waiting for an hour and a half we were advised that the update had got to 85% and then crashed so it would need to be restarted. 15 mins later we were advised that after the software update crashing the van now wouldn’t talk to the updating computer at all and that the van actually wouldn’t start 😳.
A ticket has been raised with Fiat.
At least we were given a lift home! Now waiting to see what transpires getting the update to install.
Oh sh*t I hope they sort in quickly.

Im getting mine done on Thurs, its a software update, within warranty.

My volvo gets free software updates at every service.

It also applies to vehicles out of warranty, as mine is. Also scheduled for Thursday.

Bumping this thread up as I’m attempting to establish some kind of date range for Adria Fiat based vehicles fitted with the 160bhp 2.2 engine and 9 speed auto ‘box.

If you have such a Moho could you possibly give me the date of initial order and the final delivery date - either by PM or on here.

Thanks in advance.

Just had my update done at Jordan's of Hull. Only a short drive home but felt it changed slightly quicker than usual.
Was told it was to increase torque and take the strain off the gearbox. How true that is I don't know.

Phone your dealer, armed with your VIN. I did that yesterday and was told my vehicle is affected (series 8 160BHP 9Speed auto) and it's now booked in for the update next week. The dealer was unaware of the update but checked FIAT online and confirmed I needed it.
Yup, my dealer also unaware and so far no letter from Fiat but booked in at AM in January.

I would have thought that increasing torque would put more strain on the gearbox.

Maybe it was allowing slip for too long and the clutches were wearing prematurely?

I also mentioned that when I was travelling at 60mph on the flat it went into ninth gear. If I put it in cruise control it immediately went down to 8th. The answer I got for this was the engine works out the most fuel efficient gear. I thought this was rubbish as well. How can running at higher revs save fuel.
I'll have to see if this is any better now.
btw mine is a 160 late 2022.

After reading this thread earlier i got in touch with Fiat Pro and they told me to get in touch with my nearest Pro service centre. Phoned them and got booked in - earliest they could do was second week of January as it is not a safety critical update,
Dealer is Donald McKenzie Inverness.

Any updates on this? Hope that it’s sorted now?
