Fiat 9 speed auto recall notice issued

Thought I would just share this as it seems to confirm this issue does not affect the standard 140 BHP models.

As no one in this thread could categorically confirm that it did not affect the above I contacted Fiat UK by email when my local dealer, Jordan’s of Hull, did not reply to my question.

I outlined what I knew from the forum and I asked them to confirm that my 2022 series 8 140 BHP 9 speed auto box did, or did not, need the software updates and was, or was not, subject of the recall.

They have just phoned me back to confirm mine does not have the recall. Whilst this does not confirm it is the same for possibly others it does seem to add some weight to the belief it did not apply, as presented on here. She could only talk about mine specifically.

Thanks to all who have provided valuable information on this topic, I found it really helpful.
If you register on the Fiat myCamper website it will give you all the available information about your vehicle including any ‘interventions’ (recalls) due or outstanding for that VIN.

The Peugeot 8 speed appears to be manufactured by Aisin (part of the Toyota group) so perhaps that is what Fiat are using.
I have owned numerous Japanese cars which have been mostly trouble free, so I can only see this as being a positive move.
Having the choice of an 8 speed made by the Toyota group or a 9 speed made by Chrysler I know which I would choose as Toyota give a 10 year warranty on their cars provided serviced by a Toyota dealer .

Are the AT8 gearboxes being made by Toyota or has the design been licensed to Stellantis by Aisin/Toyota? The ZF was built under licence which seems to be Stellantis’ preferred method. Looks like a good gearbox.

I can’t create an alphanumeric password that the system seems to accept, silly really these problems with no proper explanation ☹️

Just saw this....

I had the same problem, but solved it by adding an exclamation mark at the end! It appears that what they meant to say was that the password should include alphanumeric characters, plus at least one special character...

Mind you, having finally managed to log in, the site was unbelievably slow, and was as much use as the proverbial chocolate teapot - no mention of the recall notice for the 9-speed auto! So I phoned my nearest Fiat Professional dealer who confirmed that the update applies to my Westfalia Columbus, and it's booked in for the 17th Dec.

the software update will just keep the wolf away from the door until the warranty is up .the crap these companys have been banging out over the years they have all done it now and then

Here's an interesting video where they perform the update and explain a bit the problem with the gearbox. It's in German, but, as you know the subtitles can be automatically translated to English.

Ford Ecoboost has a 'wet cambelt' have a search for issues with them.
i done a belt change on a couple its not so bad to do it works but its strange so strange its nearly renault strange...oh and the new vw transporter next year if its not all ready out is a badged up transit.

Just back from my update. 35 minutes (just time for power nap) is all it took, on drive home on country roads seemed livelier from start, revved a bit more and changed up quicker.

Definitely did a software update on our 140 when it went in for engine warning light, because the time and date were wrong and all trips turned back to zero x

The ZF box is built in Fiat's Chrysler plant in South Caroliner.
Is that true for all Stellantis vehicles with a ZF9? Or just American Cryslers, Jeeps and Dodges?

ZF make their own boxes for the European market for other manufacturers, so I'd be surprised if Fiat had them shipped all the way from the US... Although with the cost they charge, I guess it's possible.

Just back from having the update done, 180bhp 4.5 tonne single axle mh.
45 mile trip each way to dealer. Enroute I kept an eye on gear selection and set the trip monitor. Traffic was light, averaged circa 60-62mph using cruise control and achieved 24.5mpg according to the trip monitor.
Not once did it change into 9th gear and it very rarely has since we've had it, having done 5000 miles.
After the update. Reset the trip monitor and set off. Traffic was heavier, however as soon as I got above circa 55mph I could see 9th gear was coming into play. Additionally when using cruise control, which I do a lot, I noticed that several times after setting it at 61/62mph it settled into 8th. However, if I slightly depressed the accelerator so it sped up by just a 1 mile or so, it immediately went into 9th and then held it, even when it dropped into the amber line on the trip monitor screen. Only dropping to 8th if it fell into the red line. Did this several times and held 9th for some distance. So for me a slightly different driving style.
For reference at the end of the return trip achieved 25.6mph.

That sounds like a lot of weight to tow with a 140, I would have thought you would have gone for the 180.
Simple as they stopped doing a 180 on my Adria so unfortunately no choice. I suspect hey were already aware there was an issue.

Or they were saving money?
