Another vote for the figure of 8 leads , they initially object and try to slip them off the nose but soon get used to it .
Worth persevering with.

It's a pity we are 2 or3 days behind you or we could have lent you one to try we carry them with us ,bit we are only crossing into Spain tomorrow.

Another head collar similar to the above is a Gentle Leader. The issue you'll have Tam is you really need to have both hands free to use these types of control collars etc which is obviously not an option for you however maybe a go for a short while with each pooch singly every day will be sufficient to get them behaving.

Tam, changing the subject slightly* ... How are you getting on with your chip box thing? Is it helping? (* It is still about pulling power! 😄).

I’ve told you many times Tam that you need to take blu out on her own and take control, get her in-line and the rest will follow, it will take time as she’s a pup and a blundering fool that has no fear, shes a lovely dog but she is more than a handful on her own with the other 3 it’s near impossible…

As soon as I put a figure of 8 collar on my young muppet he walked gracefully out the front door like the best trained dog in the world 😂
He did get a bit cocky and try his luck but it was all going well until I noticed it was rubbing his lower lip and making it sore so that went in the bin. I've tried various other things with varying success, but from my experience with "My breed" age is more a factor than the type of collar.

On mine the lower strap was mid jaw not near lower lip, never any problem

When we first got Charlie who was a large Labradoodle, he was a bad puller. A dog trainer recommended a 'Halti'. He was transformed overnight. We used it all of the time, because he was a very friendly dog and wanted to say hello to everything. Being 34 kilos, he took some stopping without it.

When the first one wore out, we got another but it was a fake copy and crap. It didn't fit properly. So if you do go down that route. Make sure you get a genuine one.

Friends have also used them on their dogs with success.

I've trained quite a few dogs in my time from 8 stone Rootweiler to 9kg dachshunds. I would suggest trying Blu and Ela together on their own on a day when you have nothing else to do. Let them start their antics and then smartly, without any warning, about turn and walk in the opposite direction. Only praise when they are in the right position and if you are able, a small treat. It may take an hour, a minute or a day but they usually get the message eventually. It's a kinder way than any collars but you do need patience. When you walk all 4 maybe try a big one and small one on each side. Experiment it may work out better with big ones on one side and small ones on the other.
Good luck.

It's making a difference but my waste gate is sticking again so I need to look at that , not as easy to access on this van as it was on the fiat . Need to take front wheel off.

I've been taking her out on her own as I said in my other post. When it's just me and her she's a completely different dog walking. They all are . But when all together blu and ela constantly pull. That's the problem. I haven't enough hours in the day to walk them all separately twice a day

Yes another year and blu will be a different dog . Problem is my knees could be knackered by then

At the moment I have jade milo and ela in one hand and blu in the other. The size difference can cause problems at times as milo gets stood on if they all get tangled.

Blu and ela compete and both pull ,blu being the worst.
When Jackie is walking with us she always has jade and milo so I only have the two big ones , they still pull like crazy , I've tried the turning round trick so many times I've lost count and it makes no difference. I've also tried letting Jackie take jade milo and ela and I just have blu , everytime she pulls I stop . She stops , we walk and she pulls again because she wants to catch up . The last time we did this I never saw Jackie or my other 3 dogs the entire 6km walk which defeats the purpose of Jackie joining us on a walk lol

I've watched countless training videos online , I've tried all their methods and it's made no difference. That's why I asked about the collars because I have tried and exhausted all other avenues over the last year. I keep waiting for her to grow up and calm down which I know in time she will like the others did. But I feel our entire walk is spent with me pulling her back and telling her off .

As said , individually they are all different dogs but when together they're not

So I want to try a collar or something that teaches her if she pulls its uncomfortable if she doesn't it isn't.

Because lectures to her isn't working she don't speak my lingo lol

Got woken up at 08.10 this morning by some old guy running in to my van , back left hand corner . Whole van shook dogs barking like mad. Opens the blind and he's reversing about to drive off .. grabs phone and gets photo of the car with number plate
20241222_082559.webp

And he parked , so jumps out of bed clothes on hair everywhere and still half asleep goes out to him and he's just getting out the car... I says " hey you hit my camper" ....straight in to denial no no no waving arms etc , I said yes you did you moved the whole van .. I looked at the camper and fortunately there's just a light scratch on the bottom corner of the rear bumper ... I points to it and eventually he admits he hit the van and then proceeds to make light of it .. not once does he apologise .

This isn't the first time this has happened in Spain. Some nugget hit my euramobil 2 years ago too.

So fair enough there's no big damage. I now have a scratch that wasn't there but it's not worth the hassle. And he knows it

Our big dog also was ultra competitive in company with our other dog. In fact the most difficult we have ever had.
I tried headcollars and found the one that worked best was called a " dog bridle". Fitted like a headcollar but tightens behind the head when they pull making the nose lower. It worked a treat with him whilst he wore it but as soon as we tried walking without it he was back to pulling again.
Do you do any other training with her? She sounds like a very intelligent dog who needs lots of mental stimulation. I'm happy to offer more suggestions if you would like.

I had similar issues to you with training Beech not too pull. She was a very high energy, adventurous dog and nothing worked. after training methods I tried various harnesses and the halti head collar. Some of them worked for a short time when it was new to her and then she got used to the feeling and would pull again. In the end I mostly just walked her off lead everywhere because she was super trainable in other ways like waiting at curbs, not annoying other people or dogs she just always wanted to be slightly ahead of me or able to move around a bit.

She stopped pulling after the age of around 11 if that's of any comfort 🤣

Yes ours is now always off lead where possible. He is always at least 50m from us but it's impossible to lose him as he knows exactly where you are and has the best recall of any dog we have ever had. It took him until he was a to learn any commands and now at 9 is a lovely dog but he's been a struggle. I thought I knew how to bring a puppy up until we got him!

I do yes , she's very clever to be honest , possibly the most intelligent of them all . But very headstrong with it. It's getting her to focus that's the hard part as even with treats she's more interested in other people and dogs. Quite good at tricks though and likes the dog agility parks when we find them .

Yes that's blu's problem she's very sociable, she wants to see ebery person and every dog. But is unaware of her own size so she will jump up at people and plays too rough with most dogs. If they're smaller they're scared of her and will run away ...which she thinks is a game and gives chase. As a result unless we're in an enclosed dog area she can't get off the lead unless there's no one around. Her recall is still about 50/50 at times. If there is distraction its a lot worse.

And I'm fully aware that's down to my lack of skill in training her and because she is young , high energy and overly enthusiastic.

When she's not doing as she's told I end up doing all the wrong things because of other people's reactions.

Training videos say ...don't follow or chase the dog walk the other way etc

That's OK unless they're jumping on someone etc .

Try to grap her and she will stay just out of reach .

It's going to be a long process till she calms down a bit. She's only 14 months so still a pup .

But the pulling I need to try and address or our walks are going to suffer as a result.

The guys car has dents everywhere... which makes you wonder why he chooses to park in the most awkward places .. so he's left his car here . If anyone parks next to him he's going to struggle to get out without hitting my van again as he can't even drive forwards without hitting a huge big van so I doubt he can reverse any better

Yeah thb Beech was all those things when she was a pup. I only had her to worry about but found it really stressful and difficult doing it as a single parent 🤣 I'm sure I did loads wrong and frequently lost my temper. I liked her a lot more when she was an adult and listened and understood me.

I agree with what others have said about figure of 8 leads or headcollars. You can try a slip lead as a figure of 8 lead if it is long enough. That is what I did first. The first time you try it they will often try to get it off by rubbing their head on the floor or pawing at their face, so it can be a good idea to have a 2nd lead on a plain collar to keep their head up. Probably best to take her out on her own to try it . A figure of 8 works well as the pressure is only there if they pull, and it gives a good amount of control. I use this one on my 40kg doodle https://swagk9.co.uk/product/swag-headcollar/

Yep I'd be moving van away from that Muppet

I agree I’d move at least until he’s gone. I know you should not have to, but it’s not worth a dent in the side of your van.

Walked the 8km along to benalmedina today with ela and blu , Jackie spent the day on the beach , jade is feeling poorly so she and milo stayed in the van and the 2 bigguns and I went a walk . Was quite good with just the two of them for the day . Stopped for a pint on the way .
