Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

If you think back to 1980' s UK where we just took rubbish to a dump , people always had bonfires In their gardens.

And everything was a bit rough n ready

That's morroco. ...it is like stepping back in time in many ways .

These guys work 12 hour days 7 days a week , all the sanding is done by hand mostly, they've very few tools , they borrow tools, ladders etc from folk in the campers. They will literally have a go at doing absolutely anything.....even if they don't know how to they will attempt it to earn a few quid . I watched 3 of them today nearly have an aneurism because one of the German campers gave them a cheap cordless drill and a bottle of cheap Spanish whiskey as he was leaving .

They ain't got much and I reckon they get paid very little but probably more than most of the village. There's about 15 of them work here doing various stuff , sanding, painting. Welding, wood work etc .

In this town I think most of the younger lads work for one of the numerous garages and paintshops. To be fair things like that lassies horsebox you'd not even get someone in the UK to look at it they'd all see it as too much work .

If you put all that in to perspective they don't do a bad job overall.

Their idea of quality etc is far different from ours I don't think they even grasp it.

You've to keep at them , keep an eye on them and not be scared to tell them when you want something sorted but generally they're happy to do it.

The bonus with mine is nothing they've painted on mine is gonna rust or anything.. its grp and aluminum. If you scan the van close up you'll find imperfections but then it had some of those on other areas etc. I think once it's had a polish up and all the bits are refitted it'll look good . Not new or perfect but for a 20 year old van it'll look better than a lot of 10 year old vans.

When I've put it all back together and post before and after pics together I think the difference will be amazing to be honest.

That's cool Tam, so long as you are happy. The price you are paying is 'peanuts' as they say, any professional shop in Europe would probably charge thousands, but you would also get a top job done. At the end of the day, you pay your money and take your choice. Not all of us are willing to take that risk. I still consider Morocco is a dump though 😀

I think I’ll keep this one for a while as well,🤭 it will take me that long to finish it, the engine guy has only had the engine for eight years 😮‍💨, never mind time to save up more money. It does have one claim to fame though, it was originally Ridley Scott’s car 🎉
Mine doesn't have such pedigree 😮 and I definitely want the engine to stay where it is! 🤣

Considering little wind and a booth which is open on one side I wonder how much difference it actually made that it was painted outside. May have been a blessing - they could see what they were doing in good natural light
But on uk they go in an oven to bake it.

It's fine and you know it 🤣🤣
Nah the bonnet etc is rough to the touch. The rear bumper is the best, the side skirts are not bad. But a polish should help . . The bottom half of the van needs re polished too from me removing that decal. Still got glue to remove from bits of that too .

But it should come up fine with some fettling

Verrry nice 👌 a tad more advanced than mine, but at least mine is tax and mot exempt 🤣
Yea I got slapped with that additional road tax they dreamt up along the way! 😒
Unfortunately I only have a couple of pics from the day I brought it back through the channel tunnel but its a peach of a car in proper daylight
(Might of made a good Toad behind my last camper lol)

I remember years ago everyone that worked in the paint shop got a free bottle of milk every day, 😉 and high as a kite on thinners. 😁 Bob.
Aye as a Welder we got a pint of milk everyday too .. we were welding galvanised steel ...Mondays were horrific ..galvy flue. Shakes sweats etc .. rest of week you were fine.

Pretty sure that'll come back to haunt me in years to come

It's never been in the booth unfortunately...they did it outside . Luckily it wasn't windy but the bonnet and front does feel a bit rough so they will need to polish it up. There's also a few bits here and there they will need to blow In or touch up as their masking isn't great.

Bit of overspray too but fortunately the rest of the van had a good polish and wax before and it hadn't been washed so it wipes off.

Overall its good .... its not perfect by any stretch but better than others that's been done and it hasn't been polished or anything yet. The colour looks a good match so far , its hard to tell on the back as it's filthy but the sides and the door etc match a lot better than they did.

Looking good. 👍

And with the right colour using a spectrometer but maybe better once polished
It's the right colour fiat 210 , but bare in mind the unpainted bits have 20 year old paint on them even a paintshop in the UK charging thousands could not paint the bumpers and have it match the exsisting paintwork perfectly. The only way to do that is a full respray.

I've had many vehicles resprayed in the UK...I paid 4k for a respray on an old vw back in 2008 .. I've had several others done and a few partial resprays. Whilst the finish on the main panels etc was better than what these guys have done none were ever perfect straight after paint ...they still required fettling.

A spectrometre only gives the colour code ....its almost impossible to mix it to allow for sun, road damage over years.

Tbf there was usually a bit of colour difference on new stuff, Aluminium panels taking the paint differently to fibre glass skirts etc.

Yes some have a very noticeable difference between the plastic bits and the aluminium bits. The front panel on mine didn't bother me as much as the drivers door did and if I'd had the bumper returned to the grey colour I'd not have touched the front panel. But putting the bumpers white it had to be done.

The burstner elegance and aviano are particularly bad for colour differences on the panels , especially the gold ones

That's very true I remember one of my Elegances which was never painted but had more shades of gold than H Samuel's jewellers 🤣

Chausson/Challenger MHs are notorious for having a different coloured hab door to the main body, the one we had was like that and everyone we've seen on our travels has been the same.
