Brought and bought what’s going on?

I don't think the OP was meaning spelling in the written form, but the spoken word.
Even the people who really should know better, people like news reporters & presenters do it all the time, so it's no wonder that other people start doing it.
The difference between words like ACCEPT & EXCEPT are a common one to hear.

Is it any wonder that Brits are so bad at learning other languages when they can’t speak English properly?

If I hear another TV presenter say “We are sat here” I shall ask the TV company who sat them there!

The one that I see people getting mixed up is than and then. I see that far too much. I mean how does that even happen! ??‍♂️??

Just HOW can you mix up Brought and Bought the are too TOTALLY DIFFERENT meanings

I brought a car and paid cash

Lady to friend: My husband brought me lunch, friend: thought you were in a restaurant with him, Lady: yes but he brought it, friend: how did he bring it if he was with you, Lady: no he brought it........ Oh Please!

I
I’m no spelling police as I said, just interested why it’s happening and from replies I’m not the only one. Maybe if we all told people who say daft stuff they sound like d..ks it may actually make a difference, too many people don’t pull them up and it spreads like a thick disease. There is a big differences in getting the odd word spelt wrong to actually talking utter bo!!ox! ?

It's not the spelling that is important - it's the content.....

Correcting spelling and grammar on the forum is a hanging offense and could result in a ban.
Some spell as they speak...as long as you understand does it matter.

Yes he hasn't been around long enough to discover that.

Some of the Yorkshire stuff we were brought up with, ''Itintintin'' sumdis tuk it artertin.

Its general question NOT to do with the forum or a particular person, surely debate can take place

Why use a knife and fork in a restaurant if you can use your hands, does it matter?

It was just a reminder!
Surely we are meant to progress in life, we can all help each other, but to watch people slip further down in whatever to me is not right, I always help where I can and appreciate others helping me. As for the forum I really don't care what they write, I seem to understand things as they are and have never criticised anyones spelling, just a reminder ;)

I've never come across brought instead of bought but my pet hate is people writing been as and seen as rather than being as and seeing as.
Seeing as its a Friday the shop closes early... Or.... Seen as its etc
It's OK in a spoken dialect but not a written sentence.
And I have yet to hear a π-key who can say ASK........ I AKS you!

My pet hates are not spelling related, or even usage really

People who start everything they say with 'So,'
broadcasters who 'umm and ahh'
People who intersperse every other sentence with 'you know'
And all the knobs who, after something awful has happened, say 'lessons will be learned' when you know full well they will not be.
