Brought and bought what’s going on?

I have seen references to people having brought something as in purchasing, I always thought that was bought, I though brought was when someone brought something over to you, I’m no spelling police but have I actually missed something going on, as to me it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Oh and it’s not just on the forum I hear it elsewhere as well. Thanks
Right, so you bought into the requirement for correct spelling and grammar, but have brought this to the wrong forum.

I think you will find ITA is not coming back in.

Education Authorities have all but disappeared these days due to direct funding for Academies, Free Schools etc. In any case, its the government which set the curriculum and has done for the last 30 years.

Good, another liberal policy proved to be both inadequate, and wrong.

One of mine apart from the brought issue
Is fink instead of think.
What ever happened to the th ?

"The Only Way Is Essex"

There's no 'H' in the Essex alphabet...

1. My sat nav is fully updated.
2. Anything wrong with more people passing exams? That is to be expected given the significant improvements made in teaching over the last 30 years.
3. Ever considered those English courses may be mostly for the foreign students at the university?

The system may be wrong in your opinion, but how much do you actually know of the system today, or even when you were at school? Far too many assume that what and how they were taught at school decades ago is the only way to go today.

1. I'm glad, well done.
2. Yes. What's the point when we reach 100% pass rate ?

Oh, everyone's equal !!! But we're not. Fact. Will never change.

We are all equal in the eyes of God, apparantently, unless you follow a God, or multiple Gods, that the majority disagree with. Or one that's not registered on the current census, (I'm a Jedi, btw).

We're all equal in the eyes of the government, unless you're poor, a burden, unable to vote or voice your opinion, or unable to vote.

We're all equal according to the law, unless your applying for a job in the city and didn't attend Oxford or Cambridge, are over 40, and are gay or bisexual, and God behold, from an ethnic minority.

3. I consider everything. My brain works overtime. It's a curse I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Fact of the matter is that most non-dom students have better English language ability than a large proportion of English resident students. Fact.

Monetarising universities, changing polytechnics to university status, and vastly reduced educational budgets, have resulted in a huge reduction in educational abilities for our students.

That, and the lowering of standards.

Students aren't allowed to fail anymore for fear of affecting their confidence.

Those that will fail are ejected from the system.

Fail, and failure, were banned words for lecturers when I recently attended uni as a mature student.

I was embarressed, and humiliated, by how far our once great educational system had slipped since my experience 4 decades ago.

Exams are there for a reason; the level needs to be consistant, and they need to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

How else are universities and employers expected to know who the best students are when we have 100% pass rate ???

Maybe the number of +'s & *'s after the 'A' ?

Yawn.

As a suppossed exponent, defender of the antiquated educational system that you appear to be so well acquainted with, I really expected a little more of a robust response.

I've only ever been through the system, Grammar and state, 4 schools in 6 years, so have a wee bit of knowledge of the differences at the receieving end.

I never argue with the barroom expert on their hobbyhorse subject.

Plural is

Ignoramuses

(Not a dig or correction, just answering a question)

Technically, based on the Latin derivivative, it should be ignorami.

However, as language evolves, and is shaped by the spoken word, grammatical misdemeanours then become acceptable.

A far better response to one whom you think is deserved of the term ignoramus, is
assernine.

But then you hit a brick wall...use a word that no-one understands and you fall off your horse, so-to-speak.

Oh what a tight-rope of language we weave...

...try and be clever and no-one understands you, and you're a pompous tw&t, mis-use the language and you're an uneducated fool, because you were not taught correctly in a badly run and underfunded educational system.

I likes what I like, and trust peoples that look right.

I am an expert of nothing, do not own a horse, nor have been a gymnast, but do have several hobbies.
I'm well acquainted with several barrooms.

We all flitter about in our own bubbles, on this insignificant planet, in a tiny corner of the Milky Way, itself just a blemish in the whole of the cosmos, thinking that we're the most important living organisms that ever existed.

Note to self : homosapians are a self destructructive virus.

I thought that constructitve, educated discussion was the way forward. Perhaps we could all learn from each other ?

We are ALL different.....period.

We all have different agendas. Some coalesce, many don't.

I don't want to get into a verbal fight with anyone.

Life is short, too short for many, and every day should be savoured.

Be happy, enjoy your family, and respect the planet, are my only requests.

I have no idea as to which previous member you are referring to...

I'm a grumpy old man, recently purchsed a MH, and due to go into hospital for major surgery on 20/10/19. ?

My area is showing loud and proud, a Yorkshireman, now in south Ayrshire, with a Scottish lassie....

...how more European do you want ???
