Are CAMC finally getting the message

AGM usually is questions in beforehand, a few selected ones are answered at the AGM, rest in writing afterwards. I think last year there were more questions asked than normal. AGM is very stage managed, no ability to question anyone. The last few years you have been able to join by zoom, so no need to go to London.
Voting beforehand for the Council. They then have a show of hands at the AGM and declare everyone elected. I have yet to discover how they include the “postal” votes, or whether they declare the actual numbers of votes anywhere. Not that I have pursued it with any vigour.

Can we stop perpetuating the myth that CLs and CSS are the reason we stay with the two clubs. Since the clubs started increasing their prices most of the CLs and CSs have jumped on the bandwagon. Often you go to a CL advertising showers and toilets and priced accordingly to find they haven’t been cleaned in decades. £20 plus for a CL offering only basic facilities is a laugh compared to what you get in Europe. I’d like to see the 2 clubs putting more effort into raising standards instead of prices. There may be some good value CLs and CSs but the overall standard is poor. And they want paying in cash to keep it off the books. And they have another field for tents and non members where they can rip them off as well.
Sorry, I don’t agree. I do stay with the CAMC for the CLs. They are our go to choice. Yes, they can be variable in standards and facilities., but we don’t pay over £20. Not looking for loos and showers, in fact tend to avoid those trying to be mini Club sites. There are plenty of off grid sites if you look for them. I think newer sites tend to be more expensive and I think that is down to two things, yes the current market, but also the cost of installing the site infrastructure, which many older sites will have already paid for. I don’t believe the overall standard is poor.
You may well get “better value” in Europe, but I am camping in the UK so it is vfm here that is important to me.

Just a little perspective for those wearing rose tinted spectacles when looking at Euroland. We are meeting our son in the Dordogne next month, they are staying on Yelloh site so we looked to book €80 a night plus €6 for the dog! We managed to get 2 nights on one of their cheaper pitches but its still €128 for 2 nights for 2 of us and the dog. They are or seem fully booked as hard to get a pitch for more than an odd night.
If you book a Yelloh site then you know that your getting the whole deal including the hoards of French kids and paying top dollar but that’s your choice .
I’m booking a really fab site with pool on the Dordogne for €133 for 7 days plus £42 if EHU needed , we have been to the same site several times and just love it .

Only been to one site in the UK where we paid for electricity separately and for the 2 nights we were there we used £5.80 worth. It was just over a month ago so pre electricity price reduction.
We have just stayed at a metered site and plugged in for one day to recharge our batteries . We were charged £5 but only used 0.6 Amp ! Nice to see profiteering is alive and well in the Uzk.

Yes our choice but we want to see the grand kids as we will be away 10 weeks.

Is that €133/€175 in the middle of August?

Just got back from Thirsk Racecourse.... nice wee site but was 90% full today with the "more mature" membership obviously taking the advantage of the lower prices there and a pre school holiday week away....... warden said it had been pretty busy all season.... we chose it so Mrs SG could see the Herriot thing..... we'd come across from a lovely CL site, even still we were not disappointed with the Racecourse site..... next time out.... possibly August for a cheeky one....otherwise.... September in Narfark.... CL's as usual

Third week in August . Just checked is €184 including EHU and €9 tourist tax ans I assure you it’s lovely.

On a nice private site in Cornwall just over a mile from the Eden Project £12.50 night.
That’s great value and not far from me, which site are you on?

another email..... 20% off popped into the inbox.... on "selected" sites.... mind you, I'd have probably said that some of these sites would have been full or near enough usually....

Are CCC and CaMC registered as charities? If so are they adhering to all Charity Commission rules re profit and distribution?

If only we had a friendly compliance officer to hand, we could find out.😉😎

Ian

This friendly compliance officer is versed in financial services but not Charities.

Anyway I am still on a 10 week holiday.😂

As a Trustee of three charities all overseen by The Charity Commission I can assure you that in my experience both they and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) do keep an eye on these larger charities. There's no way either club would want to attract undue attention so I assume that both are diligent in their activities and returns.

Currently at Aldridge Hill, New Forest (Camping in the Forest site) paying £12:50 per night (2 adults) admittedly with limited facilities. Black Knowl (CAMC Club Site) is almost opposite. Cost is £43:50 per night. EHU is another £9.
I can no longer justify these extortionate prices. I will NOT be renewing my membership.

We cringe at anything over a tenner a night.

I know you don't have a brilliant memory so just as a reminder here's what one looks like! :giggler:

Letter in the current mag was printed including the comments about ease of booking, yet mentions bookings down, site costs but does mention extra costs for the CAMC and says they should reconsider. The Opinion page does try to make the case for the new booking system which is almost a year old regarding cancellations being down..... and it mentioned the extra club costs ... and they are looking at special offers for 2024 so book now at 10% deposit and all that stuff..... I'm sure the AGM will claim "cost of living" for the bookings being down rather than "dynamic Pricing"
We've already booked quite a bit for 2024 but no CAMC club sites, a few CL's hence why I keep my membership and the rest are the odd site across the channel for when we have our tours planned, we'll obviously be using Aires. One bonus is I did use the CAMC insurance as my renewal came today from Flux and I'm now with AXA through CAMC Insurance at 50% less than the auto renewal, at least I have my membership cost covered lol.... as for the rest... that's Solar power paid for. Safe Travels all

If they stay below £40 that’s good with me. Just improve pitches basic stuff like level and no mud.

They’ve lost me I’m afraid. Got a quote for a ferry that was £100 dearer than direct. When challenged they offered to price match which just demonstrates their greed. They are not a club they are a business with millions in cash and asset.

If they haven't taken the hint by now then they never will after so many have resigned from the so called club and some like myself with nearly 30 years membership in. They will go on milking the few that remain

Membership is at an all time high
so the leavers are being replaced
by new members .

We have booked our Spanish winter sites and ferry through them. Otherwise we would not renew. I don’t think we have used a CMC site this season though.

Just received this email from CAMC with reduction to deposit and 20% off a variety of sites during midweek.
All during the peak period .
Maybe with all the noise about their fees and perhaps people voting with their feet theyve had to react?

No its autumn and bookings are on the slide, plus they need the cash to fly their ambassadors in from europe for the NEC

Any good company will know that it is more profitable to retain customers than it is to find new ones but CAMC are just letting good customers go and replacing them with new hoping that they will be brainwashed. Since leaving them I have calculated that I have probably saved around £250 using C&CC and Independent sites as most have been priced at £20 to £25 per night instead of CAMCs £35 to £50, better in my pocket 😎😎😎

Absolutely, don't know why more folks don't take advantage of the marvelous deals at haven, the camp site parts are usually away from the club parts so you can be as quiet as you want or if you are into clubs and pubs you can join in for free.
Excellent.
And, restaurants, shop, pools etc
all included.
