Are CAMC finally getting the message

The membership price is high then the sites prices are high too!
The only reason for being a member is you can use their sites, some discounts and I think you would have to use everything CAMC offer to make it even slightly sensible!

I doubt anyone is reading them. Mine stay in a pile along C&CC ones. Then when I am really bored, I scoot through about a dozen, that takes about 10minutes. Then in the bin they go.

Geoff
I don't even put them in a pile, unlike the CCC they won't stop sending them despite several emails, I don't open the package it goes straight in the bin, such a waste in times when everyone is going on about being green and saving the planet

I discovered several CMHC sites with free wifi recently. Bonus 😀
We experienced the same just joined with our BT wifi app........whats not to like  (y)

The important discussion regarding the CMC is about their leadership. The club is supposed to be operated for members but it is run like a profit making enterprise. Stop building cabins, yurts etc. Retain deposit scheme in some form, all private sites require a deposit or payment in full. Use profits to fill potholes, level pitches, upgrade sites and stop this continual and often unnecessary grass cutting.

Agree and I would like to see more catering outlets on sites as we enjoy in Europe. Not just the pizza and fish and chip vans but proper catering. Quite a few of the commercial sites offer this. I know it's not a simple seasonal operation but if enough members asked ther might be some new units even if they are local franchised operations. The one at Cromer seems to work well.

With the C&CC you can have an online membership and they stop sending the crap.
When you are eligible for veteran membership you pay half price and they start sending you the pile of junk again, you can't have paperless veteran membership, how stupid.

Looked to have 3 nights at Pentewen Park in Cornwall (private site) in a couple of weeks, very little availability at £29 per night for nonEHU pitch or £47 per night for EHU pitch, £18 pn for electricity!
Pentewan Sands? That’s a real hot spot, surprised you got a pitch in August at any price.

I don’t know how we can complain about CAMC prices when we look around.

Because we pay £50 a year to belong to a club with our best interests at heart 🤪

I was at Stamford last week £24.40 a night, been going there for many years but never seen it with so many empty pitches, especially at this time of year, probably only 2/3rds full. Perhaps the message is getting through, someone at their head office must surely be wondering why bookings are down, this can't be just Stamford, I imagine it's even more noticeable at the more expensive locations.

Be careful letting the world know you throw the mag away unread. The clubs have convinced the advertisers their magazine is well loved by all campers who scour the adverts to buy the latest kit. If the advertisers find out no one reads it then no more advertising money so our pitch prices will increase. Don't think the mag costs more to produce than the advertising revenue earns. If it did they would stop it immediately.

Ah yes Ian, Top Lodge at Fineshade........................miles away from Stamford, with no chance of getting public transport. It's nearer to Kingscliffe and Duddington, than it is to Stamford. ;) I never did understand the Club's naming of that site.

Since no longer needing to stay at Club sites close to family, we've not regretted ditching the CAMC for a second time. We remain members of the C&CC and the MCC purely for the ability to use THSs, one of which we are joining next week, run by the Gloucs DA for RIAT. Two and a half days full of flying displays, for £20 a night. (y) Following that, is another near Bath for 4 x nights, and on a bus route. ;)

I know it's becoming more expensive these days to cross the Channel, but the way we see it, we are doing it whilst we can, ie, young and fit enough to still do it. Aires, Stellplatz, and Sostas are a great way to sight see, without the need to book sites.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Well my membership cancellation went in yesterday, been a member since 1999. I stated the deposit system, prices of sites and not catering to Motorhome needs, will see if I get any response.

I think magazines are zero rated for VAT. So the CMC and most other clubs/ organisations produce them with a price on them and supply as part of your subscription which then reduces the VAT element of the subs. It only works out as a small saving per member, but multiplied by 1million members mounts up.

I'd like to see a two tier membership with reduced membership for those who only want access to CL and CS network. I've no interest in club sites, discounts, glamping or yurts, and whilst we're at it the magazines are drivel :giggle:

I get the "club" debate, and my renewal is due this month and was considering my options, but I've got a booking for chatsworth in September for the country fair, and another Rowntree Park for a gig in York in November, so I'll be continuing my membership for at least another year - and at £59, it's around a fiver a month, or in real terms a pint a month, and since I've stopped drinking, I can still afford it.

My 5g is way faster..... 168mb d/l but I get the "free wifi" thing but it doesn't help the price increase IMHO it's something that should be included anyway
But I thought the general consensus was you shouldn't have to pay for something that you don't use in the pitch fee and there are some people who don't use wi-fi.

Been a member for 20 years but no longer crazy prices these days I forgot to renew my subs and had a email saying that I had a few days to make my payment or that would be it no reminders would be sent and my membership would be cancelled.

So with that sort of attitude I opted to.keep my money and spend it on the other side of the channel
So did you expect them to let you continue Free?

So here I am sitting on a perfectly good camp site in France with a huge pitch , free WiFi, unlimited EHU very clean facilities , directly overlooking a fab beach with really friendly staff for €16 pn (in high season) . Most of the time I’m on free or nearly free aires but this stop I needed to do some
laundry .
Why on earth would I ever think about rejoining to ‘Club’ or even spending my money in the UK , no thanks.

No offence but this is what the Club want , apathy . The more people that vote with their feet the sooner they will rethink their charging strategy .

As for York Rowntree the costs are just plain silly at £58 pn for a pitch in a glorified gravel car park with zero view. Try the Cherry Tree Cottage Site , much nicer and much cheaper

We spent ten years in our Rapido touring France Germany, Italy and everything in between. We usually were away April and May then again September and October. Loved it, the freedom, the sights ,the weather etc etc. Now for health reasons we have to stay in the UK which has some nice places but I cannot begin to say how much we both miss our European trips. But at least we have the memories.

That’s what happens when you stop drinking, you start thinking rationally. I have the same issue… a couple of inevitable trips to Abbey Wood & Crystal Palace and that’s the subscription covered. Beyond that there’s the CL network as a bonus. Still rather be flushing the money down the toilet than pay CAMC though!

No offence, but it's my money and I'll spend it how I want.

But, if you re-read my post, I'm not paying £58 a night, there's no way I'd pay that, I'm going in November and it's £38 a night

Yes there’s always options, a lovely CL in York for £15 which we always use. Only a 25 minute walk in or bus straight outside or a taxi is only £8 depending on where you want dropping off.
