Anyone still going away for New Year ?

This thread will get closed unless the heat is taken out.
The OP asked a valid question but really no need for the angst whichever side of the argument you are on.
Oh, Lovely day today down here in the South, Locked all our doors and Nobody is coming in here

When you put ice skating booked I thought you was doing it for wind up
Look if you go keep safe
But people where kick of a site Xmas day as look down started Boxing Day so be careful it happens and if you cannot drive it be a cab home

Swifter as long as you practice the same social distancing measures etc as you would elsewhere then why not? The country should already be in lockdown but, of course, it's not because the government (don't) follow the science. Enjoy while you can and be safe (y)

Im planning to go away late February.

Should have fulfilled my commitments by then and free to wonder as I like

How does that work if some of the people staying have had an alcoholic drink ? Just leave anyway and be forced to drink and drive ?
In Wales last week apparently people got a knock on the door in the early evening and those who said they had been drinking were told to be gone by 9AM the next morning and the Police did indeed return at 08:30 to make sure it was empty by 09:00 and people had complied.

Is this the circuit breaker that didnt work or locking the whole country down because there is a problem in the south?
No, that was during half term and the week after. This was the beginning of the increased occurrences and the new strain I think before it became known. Same timeish when they decided to lock London etc down, however, they got several days notice along with the rest of England.

It worked, rates went down in Wales, it just wasn’t long enough to make a long term difference.

The problem isn’t just in the south, rates in Shropshire are going up, even in Tier 2.

The only tools we have to control the virus are lockdowns, and vaccines.

Nobody likes lockdowns, but they work.

They can’t just kick you off the campsite the same day 👍🏻
Don't bet on it ... if they decide to close for whatever reason they can tell you to get off, they may have to refund anything you've paid for that night but they can still do it, it may for example be that one of their staff has been tested positive for covid so for health reasons they close the place, it's their site so they can do it if they really want to.

We’re in storage on a CAMC site, had taken all our stuff to the van on the sat morning, ready for our intended journey to York The next day. When the news came in about the Welsh lockdown all peeps on the site were told they had to be off by the Sunday At mid day. We were allowed back onsite to collect all the stuff put into MH day before Before mid day, after that we would have had to make an appointment but could have been deemed unnecessary Journey. First time in 6/7 years we stayed at home for Xmas.

I hope it doesn’t come to that ☹️

Police in Wales got nothing better to do ?.........................

They have lots of better stuff to do, experience has shown however that people can’t be trusted.

Don’t blame the Police for Policing......

It's about time the police started policing.............like not getting out of stuff by saying 'it's a civil matter' - because it keeps crime figures down

"We are not interested in stolen vehicles" - "things have moved on" - heard this week !

The police will lose the little respect they have if things continue as they are

You seem angry, no idea why and I won’t add to it further by carrying on.

Because my family has been the victim of crimes recently and received no support from the police

Why would you not wish to carry the subject on ?

I quoted shropshire figures earlier still in the 90's, well below average, not to say they won't change but I can't see a couple in a motorhome from another low incidence area being too much of a hazard.

If Drakefords Circuitbreaker worked then what is going on in the valleys?

The whole topic is such a hot potato
I honestly think if the situation is so bad then only a full lockdown will suffice. This does away with any arguments and everyone knows exactly where they stand.
I live in a small village on the coast. We were moved into Tier 4 just before Christmas Eve. To this end we should stay at home unless working, shopping and exercising and people should not travel into our area.
On the 27th the roads around the village were rammed. Cars were double parked in places and all along double yellow lines.
I gave up counting the surfers in the water when I exceeded three hundred.
Given that most of these had travelled into the area then it goes without saying that even with the best will in the world the virus must spread.
Do we have a situation where people look at others and think “well if it’s OK for them” ?
I will not judge people but I would ask everyone to honestly say in all good conscience “ Is this really wise and should I’ve doing it”.
The most frightening aspect is the Asymptomatic carriers.

Merely a personal opinion, there are times when you should do or not do something in the interests of ‘the greater good’. At this time, I perceive that to be staying at home, reducing travel and interactions as much as is possible to limit potential viral spread. It also means not taking the the risk of getting ill somewhere you do not ordinarily reside given the health services there may be under stress if not already overwhelmed.

Tier 4 is in effect a full lockdown, if people are not taking any notice then what difference would locking everyone else down make?

I agree about going away in Shropshire. If I could, I would.

New variant, poor socioeconomic households with cramped conditions. A perfect storm for the Valleys I am afraid and I suspect their rate was too high and the lockdown too short to make any difference as they entered the circuit break.

There are quite a few holiday cottages currently in use in and around Tenby. As far as I know nothing has been done to remove the occupants. I’m sure the local Facebook page would be on fire with that information if that had been the case.

During the first lockdown there were very few cars on the road and people were actually staying at home. In the few trips out that I have made since we went into t4 - only to the supermarket because it’s impossible to get a delivery slot or click and collect - the roads seem just as busy as if there were no restrictions at all. Supermarkets are busy with people making no effort to social distance, unlike during the first lockdown. Whilst wiping my trolley down with the disinfectant spray provided, I watch streams of people going into the shop not having wiped their trolley or disinfected their hands. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ref supermarket , yes some people still don’t wipe down trollies etc , most do so I suppose we put it down to human nature ???? There’s been an outbreak yesterday at a Sainsbury’s in Southampton amongst staff

Tier 4 Is not really a full lockdown that would be only medical services & supermarkets open and restrict travel within a mile of home. We are in Tier 4 and its busy than ever a lot of non-essential shops are open ie The Range, B & M, Garden Centres, Real Estate Agents.

Exercise is the used excuse to travel into another area away from your home village or Town.

well said .I would hazard a guess that some of the people who have pretty much branded me a criminal for having the nerve to take my family away in a motorhome for new year , are more than happy to browse around a Garden Centre !
I will feel much safer on this holiday than I would walking around a shop at the moment !

Whether 'allowed' to or not I'm evidently not as desperate to go away in my m/h as many of the posters here seem to be who are suffering withdrawal symptoms. I live alone (Tier 4 ), love my house, my garden and dog walks around the village empty backstreets and fields and enjoying the same specific 'winter at home' interests and activities that I have always done.
Just so long as the wandering motorhomers stay away from me whilst getting their fix and don't overload the NHS staff I really don't care what they do.
