"A Year in Spain" My "last gasp" attempt at posting (informative info).

We (jumar and myself) live in Spain. We now have a "bolthole" apartment, twixt the mountains of Sierra Espuña and the med coast of Puerto Mazarron.

But ... we still have many motorhoming trips away. Local(ish) in autumn/winter/spring, and in the summer months, further afield.

In the summer I often start a thread, but, I soon give up, due to lack of inerest, maybe? to people being away on their own summer trips, and not needing info of places to go. Any other reasons, please say!

So ... I'm happy, and willing to post, a "Year in Spain" (with maybe a dip over the borders into France and Portugal).

Any interest, starting from now onwards??
We look forward to it. Planning a 6-week trip for May/June next year.

Well, if Martin hadn't been on guard, I'd have said we'd been gassed last night 🤣. I slept through others arriving in vans and a car parked nearby with two male occupants with loud voices.

It just goes to show how deeply someone can sleep. I did hear the rain and felt the wind blowing the van ..... vaguely!

Heading downhill today to a place yet unknown, we still need a quiet spot for Saturday night.

Yes, us too. We're a little bit further south than you, but struggling to find anywhere.

We've washed and dried our super lightweight sleeping bags in one of our favourite towns (Cedeira). It was very quiet in the town except for around the beach volleyball competition and the Gadis supermarket! We managed to get one 3 ltr box of a wine we like.

One of the two public loos we passed on our walk back to where we'd parked the van. Very clean and with loo paper.

The other was near this playground

It stayed dry, but dull until we got back to the van. We timed it just right.

We've bitten the bullet and come to the popular parking at Pantin.

Was it the right move? We'll find out!

We were here last year, on 2nd August (this year the parking is closed for overnighting from 1 August for three days, we think). We'll read the sign again later. It was much busier. We're parked in almost the same spot, although we have less vans around us and we're facing the opposite direction 😁. Maybe more will arrive later?

What a difference a year makes (maybe). It's definitely different weather wise.

And very nice to be joined by a Spanish friend we met a couple of weeks ago 😃 A solo female from our region of Murcia on vacation.

After a bit of a worry when some young Germans in two camper vans set up a very loud mobile music station on a shelf on the side of one of their vans, they suddenly packed up and left, we had a very comfortable and quiet night. The only sound was from the crashing waves below.

The bikes are coming out today and, possibly, we'll have tonight here as well.

There's a big, yellow, "Miami School Bus" (Belgian registered) on the top level of the parking. It must have been a challenge driving it in here and, if the no overnighting from 1 August is enforced, they'll have to leave tomorrow or the day after.

I'll get a photo later, it's an interesting bus.

Yesterday, late afternoon Estefania (Stef from here onwards) who we met about three weeks ago, pulled in next to us. It wasn't totally coincidentally, I've been keeping in contact via WhatsApp. We want to keep in contact cos she lives in Murcia, not too far from us, and likes hiking and mountain biking. ⁷

Anyway, this morning we left at 10.30 am for our ride, before Stef emerged and she was sitting out in the shade when we arrived back from our scenic, road ride (it was posted as a mountain bike route, but ...)

We shared some wine, and then we shared some food and a drop more wine, and Martin (and his previous life as a firefighter) underwent a new "Spanish Inquisition" 🤣🤣.

We'll definitely be keeping in contact, even when we're all back in Murcia.

We've had a few days with Stef and travelled to a few different places. We've also had some rain, mainly in the mornings with sunny afternoons.

From the coast we went inland a short way to sit out the rain. We were at the motorhome parking at Sadurniño, east of Ferrol. We managed a ride, photos from which have disappeared. I must have deleted them from the camera before putting them onto Google photos. Never mind, it wasn't a particularly scenic ride, but fairly challenging at times. Stef joined us again and she and I wasn't for a stroll around the sculpture park next door.

The rain started in the evening and all through the night and until mid morning. Danko, Stef's 15 amd half year old dog, refused to step out of the motorhome 😂. He must have a strong bladder!

Today we parted company amd we went, in the mizzle, to Betanzos to buy some new levelling ramps, some food, some gas and, at the same station, we washed and dried some clothes. Betanzos motorhome area was busy.

We're now high, overlooking the coast, west of A Coruña at the motorhome area of A Laracha. We're here for the night and then we'll possibly drop down to a beach location west of Caión. We've been there before and it's very nice.

There are only four vans here tonight, it's remarkably quiet.

Thank you. That's a very nice thing to say 😊😊

The beauty of motorhoming, and not having places booked, is that you can change your minds.

We have driven downhill, 2 km to a, recommended for motorhomes by the local authority, parking in Caión. We were here last year and did the daunting drive through the town then. It's not at all difficult, although the first time you do it you would think you were going the wrong way when you drive across the paved square near the church! Have faith, and keep going towards the port and the parking, following the "P" signs. A few metres between buildings, the road widens and you pop out into a huge parking area with extensive sea views.

Through our windscreen.

And the route IN. Going out is slightly different. The left/right in the centre is the Church square bit!

The ride we're going to do is my own from last year. I can't complain if it goes pear shaped 🤔🤣

Our ride went very well, better than last year because the tracks had been strimmed. I only got off for two, very short, sections of rocky descents. More for my, still slightly sore, ribs, than lack of ability 😂.

We rode past "Adrian's place" that we stayed on alone last year (donations for parking €3 for leccy) and I put photos on P4N. Today, it was virtually full. It's a good job we decided to drive past yesterday. It's strange because, apart from there, everywhere else that is normally quite busy in August, is almost empty.

We're alone here atm in a parking area that could take 100, according to P4N.

The beach area we may go tomorrow was empty as we rode past.

It's all good for us 👍😊😊👍

The best waves, so far, are directly in front of our parking. (The last photo on here.) I miss my old camera that had a "burst" function, it's so easy to miss the best wave.

For anyone travelling in Spain and liking a beer or two, I bought these yesterday from Lidl.

IMG_20230803_162531.jpg

Upside down writing so turn upside down (without shaking) before opening. It's a tasty (5.5%) cloudy beer. Spanish. Very nice, apparently, but at least it's different to the normal Spanish lagers.

Leaving the parking on the OUT route.

When you think you're going to end up on the beach, you go left ...
IMG_20230804_095022~2.jpg

And emerge onto the Church Square. (The red car is about to go on the IN route between the grey and beige building).

But they had Ruttles and Grimbergen Double Amber this week ... :drinks:

After today's ride I needed to recharge both bike batteries....but the inverter decided to sound it's warning buzzer.... normally it just need turning off them back on again...not this time... I'm accustomed to the smell of burning, so I pulled the plug....and connected the roof solar to my Bluetti pack...
This charged both batteries so we are ready to go again...
I've taken the inverter out of the van and inspected it...5x20amp fuses blown... Houston We Have a Problem....!!!!
Not wanting to waste any time, Amazon.ES is sending me a new one....be here on Wednesday.....Problem solved...🌞🤔👍🇪🇦

We're now parked on a favourite rocky spot on a small headland just through the village (hamlet)? of A Pedra do Sal. There is a French motorhome here that we saw this time last year, and Stef has joined us, and also a German woman travelling solo (she's been here before also). It seems it's a favourite to return to.

It's still windy! It was cloudy when we arrived, but the skies cleared as we were riding and it's been beautifully sunny, but not hot, all afternoon. I'm hoping for a good sunset 🤞🤞

Being on a headland we have lovely views either side. It's a regular fishing spot, but it's too rough today. Even the locals have packed in for the day.

Our van, when we arrived, and before we were over run 🤣

There is a Mussel Fiesta advertised for tomorrow, so that may well be on the agenda.

We've had a great day so far and we've not even seen sight of the Mussel Fiesta. It started with a blip, a chance of a migraine for Martin, but it didn't develop. So at midday (Mad Dogs and all that) we set off with Stef (and Danko) for a short walk to the next beach that we've seen on our bike rides but were totally new for her.

We had an interesting stroll along the beach. Lots of pools left behind by the receding sea. Danko managed a dip, but later, when Stef went for a paddle, he preferred to keep his feet dry 😂

Stef is a great new friend. She's learning colloquial English from us 🤔, (she watched a Harry Enfield sketch today when he was in Spain on hioliday speaking in LOUD English. She's now trying to speak Brummie 😨) and she's great company, and she cooked lunch for us all today.

And, the last photo just had to be taken. Now that's what beach life is all about.

No running for sunbeds here 👍

The wind got up again last night and it's been very windy all day. Stef has given up on parking with us and has gone to find somewhere calmer (her fridge is being affected by the wind). She's in touch via WhatsApp though, she can't quite cut the line yet 😂.

We stayed here to do another ride. Totally different to the last few rides. A bit of pushing across soft sand and a culture shock at the busy neighbouring touristy resort, then we headed inland and joined a lovely, purpose built bike path. A mix of forest tracks and small roads brought us safely back.

Martin's watching football. Once it's over were going to head down from our blustery headland to try to find a bit of shelter from the wind. Tomorrow we need to shop and do the services and then hang around the area near Ponteceso, where we have to be on Wednesday, to pick up the replacement inverter.

We know a few nice places we can go, and some rides we can redo, so it's not too bad.

I hate wind. Where I live can be quite strong sometimes, but is nice to enjoy some different weather after this wave heat, and the new one coming next week...
All those brave sea pictures are very... refreshing 😁
Cheers
