They do a nice breakfast at the cafe by the boat lift. Is the road still shut throughnto Combermere.
Yes the road is still closed. Looks like it has another month or so to completion.
The Bailey agent is just where they have shut the road. A&E Leisure.
We had lunch in The Stanley Arms, moored the boat at the foot of the steps up to the pun, it were grand.

19th century figurehead from HMS Arethusa on display in Upnor, Kent.

I think it's what would be today called a "wardrobe malfunction", or a "nipple slip"!

Did you drink in the Pier or the Ship. You probably know that the Arethusa was built at Pembroke. Now in New York renamed The Peking.

Yes indeed, at Pembroke Dock, just down the road from home. Apparently it was the last British sailing ship to enter battle.

Didn't have a drink in the Ship or The Pier, but used the Kings Arms by Upnor Castle.

Upnor just down the road from me. It was a sad day when she was towed out of the Medway. Enjoy your time in Kent.

The Cheesewring on Bodmin Moor today.

The Cheesewring sits above an old quarry. I spent two hours climbing around the boulders* in the quarry this morning looking for obscure ferns.

I wasn't successful but this was an interesting area. Next to the wonderfully named village of Minions. I haven't looked for places to stay in the MH here but there must be a few places I hope.

* Called "clitter" here. :)

The road has been shut for over a year now. We go to a rally in May at Marbury Country Park.

I remember the old Arethusa as a training ship and I once sailed a dinghy under her gangway in the 1960's.
I think people are getting their Arethusas mixed up. The figurehead at Upnor is from the 1849 ship, which was scrapped in 1934.

There were several ships named the same, both before and after this one. See - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Arethusa

You are correct. The training ship called the Arethusa at Upnor was originally The Peking

By the look on Mrs Bobs face she is not impressed 😁😁
Haha, in fact she loves it. We had a 500 Lounge a long time ago. We had to sell it when our youngest started to drive, he couldn't fit in the Fiat so we bought a new Mini. She shed a tear when she lost her 500.

Crossing through Luxembourg and saw the sign to Schengen, so thought we'd have a little look. Considering the enormity of the agreement signed there, it's a tiny little village, population about 4,000, but was chosen because it's the meeting point for the borders of Germany, France and Luxembourg, therefore signifying the importance of freedom of movement to lots of Europeans on a practical, daily basis.

Parked right outside the museum and had a quick look inside. Loads of people taking selfies against the statues and their own country's flag. No Union Flag of course. Felt like a bit of an outsider.

Know what you mean… my wife is completely in love with her Lounge 500. Sadly it’s not reciprocated, latest bill was for a new clutch & recon gearbox at 35k miles!
