A photo of the day thread

This is just a weed growing on the pavement by our villa.

Video of the day for a change. I visted a nest of European hornets I'd been tipped off about in a nearby wood yesterday afternoon. It wasn't warm but they were still flying. They are much less aggressive than their smaller cousins but if they think their home and young are threatened they can get a bit defensive. As they can fly considerably faster than I can run this video was taken with a long lens from a safe distance. :)

The whole nest.

And a pattern of Autumn leaves on the Aire.

We were there about a month ago. I was surprised at how much water was surging down for the time of year. I imagine it must be really spectacular in late spring when it is in full flow.
Have you walked across the aquaduct too?

Yes, but not this time. Mrs Maison”s walking is no longer as good as it used to be.

Not a photo (or photos) of the day, but the following were taken over the weekend. The last photo explains why I didn't put the photos on here until today.
These photos were taken around the very top of the South Island, NZ.
#2 Our wildcamping spot next to a bird hide where we could see Godwits that have flown 6,200miles or 10,000kms non-stop for 5-9 days from the Arctic.
#4 Looking out across the Tasman Sea from Cape Farewell
#5 The view when I turned around after taking #4.
#6 One of the Cape Farewell buses that takes tourists along Farewell Spit to the lighthouse. Good to see they are back up and running.
#7 The view when I got home.

I'm not too bad, thanks. Funny thing is - I have all the usual symptoms, including fatigue and I really struggled to cook tonight's dinner, my favourite Madras curry. I thought it tasted very bland so added a few more chillies. My husband was reaching for the fire extinguisher before I remembered that Covid affects your tastebuds. :hot:

Is hubby positive too? What are the isolation rules in NZ now?

Amazingly, despite spending three nights in the confines of the motorhome with me unknowingly having Covid, my husband hasn’t yet returned a positive test.
After I got a positive from my RAT as soon as we got home on Tuesday, I reported myself to the appropriate Ministry‘s 0800 number and was told to isolate for seven days from the first sign of symptoms. My husband has to test himself everyday and isolate at home for 5 days assuming he’s negative in that time.
I was very impressed with the follow-up I received. My GP phoned within the hour and emailed a prescription for antiviral tablets to my pharmacy within 90-minutes.
Anecdotally, I reckon we are seeing another surge in cases but we’re not being given the numbers anymore. And, incidentally, shingles is running rife here too.

Interesting about the shingles, is that affecting all age groups?

Having issues up/down loading pics from my phone to PC with this hotspot thing so just 3 for now
Got some lovely propper smoked haddock from a proper smoke hut on the beach at Aldeburgh (thanks for the tip to have a look, loved it).
Alde
Also visited Southwold, nice, both our type of places.

I’m not sure if it’s affecting all ages, but it’s certainly prevalent among the over 60s that I know.
There’s a TV advertising campaign currently that’s urging anyone who is 65 to get their free shingles vaccination. It’s only free after your 65th birthday and for one year. Before or after 65 I believe it costs you about NZ$750, or £375.
