If you like the Machars area, you should read the book The Wigtown Ploughman by John McNeillie, it captures the spirit and "remoteness" of the area and rung a chord with me as my Dad was from the area between there and Dumfries. He also wrote a lot of "countryside" books under the pen name of Ian Niall, The Poacher's Handbook being one of my favourites.
It was beautiful a couple of days ago and not overcrowded.I love that walk along the clifftops
My mum and dad had a static caravan at Beckfoot for a number of years in the 70's and 80's, my kids loved it there.Enjoying the sunset this evening. Looking over the Solway Firth from Beckfoot near Silloth to Criffel, Dumfriesshire.
We are still at Beckfoot and can see quite a few fishermen on the shore. The beach is much cleaner nowadays and hopefully the dabs aren’t as “glow in the dark” these days. The stables at Allonby are houses now. But the area is still pretty much the same; very unspoilt and very peaceful. Just wonderfulMy mum and dad had a static caravan at Beckfoot for a number of years in the 70's and 80's, my kids loved it there.
Fishing for radioactive dabs and horse riding at Allonby.
