We stayed at the cmc site which is just a short walk into town. As its close to home we took a car so had lunch at the Wensleydale Heffer at West Witton. Also the blue lion at east Witton. Eat out to help out. Most places needed booking. Hardra falls was a pleasant 1 mile walk away but charged £4 to get in! We also went to Aysgarth falls which was nice. We then moved on to Leyburn for a few nights.I’m aiming for Hawes next weekend if you have any recommendations...

In town the bike shop at the old station has a tea room attached, they do a Tiffin that can stick to your ribs and causes death by chocolate!I’m aiming for Hawes next weekend if you have any recommendations...
We had a nice baguette at the pub by the falls and a lovely pint when we walked up there from the site.
In Hawes there is a restaurant The Wensleydale Pantry, on the high street that did a very passable roast dinner, its up a little flight of stairs just by the sweet shop over the road from 2 or 3 pubs.
Also the Wensleydale cheese factory on the edge of town.
I can’t wait already, I could do all of those......in moderation obviously

Back at Greenham Common today.
I didn’t go just to take this mediocre picture
But I noticed how much greenery there is in 2020 on the common compared to how it looked after the airbase had shut & also the highways agency requirements had taken hardcore to build the A34 bypass.
(All those words are to hide the fact that I have got a “before” photo

Let’s see the “before” photo! I remember all the protests - Monsignor Bruce Kent and a woman (whose name I have forgotten) who ran the Women’s Peace Camp but whenever she appeared on TV she didn’t look like she’d ever slept under canvas.View attachment 418445

And, then there was the A34 Newbury Bypass protest which introduced us to New Age Travellers and Swampy.
Where are they now, I wonder?
I think I read that Swampy is a FLT full-timing in a Morelo Palace, but I could be mistaken.

Oh! There was a cluster - thingy with my edit. The main edit was to add a “not” so to say I don’t have a before picture. But I lost the picture. Then the edit to restore the picture somehow ended up back too the older text
